A few of you guys, especially those that communicate with me on MySpace, are relatively familiar with the fact I play soccer for Special Olympics this spring (and during spring in general).
This weekend, I am going down to Fort Lewis, which is southwest of Tacoma, to play at the Special Olympics soccer state tournament (which is the Summer Games in general, since track runners, cyclists, weight lifters, and aquatics also go down with us; it's not just soccer). This will be my seventh time down there. This weekend will be one of the highlights of this year.
I have played soccer for Special Olympics since 2001, and every spring afterwards, except for 2004, the year I graduated from high school. I decided to take time off from soccer in 2004 to allow time and energy for the things to happen prior for me to graduate from high school, plus I won a gold medal for soccer in 2003.
Me and my teams are leaving town on this Friday afternoon, May 30 to head to the base. We go to the opening ceremonies in the evening.
Saturday, May 31 is when my team have the games. The games continue into Sunday, providing that we do not lose twice on Saturday. The tournament is double-elimination, meaning that if a soccer team loses twice, the team is out of the tournament and they get awards depending on the place they got in their division.
Saturday evening is the fun one. We go to a dance, and that is where I meet up with some of my other friends, which play a different sport or on a different soccer team. The dance had always been my favorite part of the soccer state weekend.
We return home Sunday afternoon, June 1, when we are done with everything. I will bring back photos of my event, and tell you guys about my time down there. Meanwhile, you are also welcome to ask questions about my previous six times that I went to state for soccer. There is something unique about each time I go to state for soccer.
Wish me luck.

Dude that's awesome! You must have a lot of determination because soccer is a pretty tough sport. Good luck!
-Kyle
Thanks. Anyway, I prefer to play teams at our level rather than really tough teams.

Good luck from another soccer player (although I have not played for over a year because of injury)
Best of luck to you and your team!!
First of all, congrats on your commitment to the game. Soccer is an excellent sport to stay in shape. Sticking with it will benefit you for a long time to come.
Soccer is the fastest growing sport in the US. My son played through high school, and now plays in college.
Best wishes to you in your tournament, and I hope you continue top play for a long time to come.

Thanks. The weather is usually not that warm anyway when I go to the tournament. Sometimes it rains during the tournament, but this year, it is expected to be partly sunny and mild.
