Very nice progress, Kal El! It's amazing how much length a person can gain when they're occupied with other things... such as college. Best of luck on your summer classes, and keep it growing! =)

yes sir it is pretty exciting looking at the calendar and noticing your hair is down to your shoulders! thaknks for the compliments

Hair looks really good. The bandanna looks nice too. Keep growing out the hair.
thanks a lot man the ive grown a liking to the bandanna.

You won't be the only one on MLHH with that sentiment. [grin] I wear a bandanna most of the time; I think they look great with long hair! And you look great with that one. That's really cool how you have the pattern coming down in a V right between your eyes.
Whenever I am looking at getting a new bandanna, I always think about the different ways I can fold it and how its patterns will look on my forehead. The artwork in bandanna patterns, as is the case with all artwork, can be used by a guy to convey moods and feelings, and no place is more visible for doing that than the forehead!
Regarding your comment elsewhere in the thread about going to law school....
I did that, and although I did not stay in the legal profession but a few years, I have never regretted having a legal education. The study of law is the study of the rules that civilization plays by, and any game will be more rewarding if you enter it knowing the rules. I wish you the best of success in the profession!
Bill
BILL!!!!!!!
you sir are what made me start wearing bandannas :{ ] i have about 5 now im looking for some more i bought mine at a store in the mall but they only sell this pattern in black where do you get yours? i love love love love playing with the patterns as well.
if you dont mind my asking what do you do now? im working on my degree in philosophy in case a career in law never works out philosophy is a subject i would enjoy teaching :{ ] and i do have to agree with what you said about knowing the rules. knowing your rights is extremely useful :{ ]
thank you very much for all the kind words bill
take care!
That bandanna of yours with the "V" pattern was doubly cool because your T-shirt also had a "V" pattern. It's fun to make stuff you're wearing coordinate in crazy ways. The shirt I'm wearing today has my beard cascading into a waterfall. And of course I have a second pair of eyes. [grin]
As for where to get bandannas, key to getting a good collection is just to always be looking out for new ones. In most stores their stock will all look alike when it comes to patterns, and colors may be limited. Some stores will only have two or three colors. You never know where you'll find bandannas because there is no such thing as a bandanna store. You're likely to find a small rack with them almost anywhere. I've seen them in truck stops, western wear stores, dollar stores, drug stores, tourist trinket shops, and gay clothing stores. The gay stores will have the largest variety of colors, but the patterns on all of them may be the same. (Google "hanky code" if you want to know why the interest - they are interested in the color but not the pattern at all.)
I have grown my collection to about 50 of them. Besides buying them, surprisingly I've found several of them. If you are on foot a lot like I am, you will just find them. The wind probably blows them off people's heads and they don't bother to retrieve them because they are so cheap. Some have been in bad shape but some have been practically brand new, and if I've liked them I have worn them. Washing them in soap and hot water is going to get rid of any concerns that you'd similarly have using a washer for any of your clothes at a public laundromat.
Bandannas don't last as long as other clothes because they are by necessity made with a thin cloth, and they get a lot of sun exposure around your head. They will also in time become too frayed around the edges. Once your collection grows, you will probably have one pile of them you actually wear and another pile that is just in your collection to have a lot of variety, but they may no longer be suitable to wear.
There seem to be several kinds of bandannas. First, there are just the standard ones that seem to all have similar patterns. These patterns have an interesting history, going back several hundred years ago to India and Pakistan. If there is more action with the pattern going on in the middle of the bandanna, you can create more variety with what ends up around your forehead. I mostly skip over any that are mainly empty in the middle. Second, you'll find some that have patterns that looked really cool to the artist, but they may or may not look like anything worthwhile around your head. A bandanna with a huge bear on it, for example, will not look like a bear at all when folded. Some artists' patterns are cool though, especially those with a Southwestern design having patterns like zigzags, small triangles, and the like. Tiedyes can also be cool. Third, you may find promotional bandannas. These are made by the dozens or hundreds by some outfit to promote a product or an event. The "Survivor" TV show seems to have made up bandannas in this category. I don't care to wear that type of bandanna, but if you really want an exotic collection, you can add some to it. I have a few, most of which I have found when walking. A few of these are actually made with the intent that they be worn around the head. You'll know these by the logo's running diagonally across the bandanna. Some Harley Davidson bandannas are like that.
The main approach to getting a large and varied collection is just to always be on the lookout for new ones and to only buy a few any time you find them. I'll often now see a rack of them and pass them all by, because they have no patterns or colors that I want. I may just not care for them, or I may just have them already.
Hey, I'm retired! And loving every minute of it! I worked in a variety of fields back when I was working - construction engineer, attorney, radio DJ, web programmer, among others. Now I'm just having fun!
Drop me a line if you want, and we can talk more. What I've said here is likely of general interest, but if we get more specific on career or bandanna minutia we may start to bore people. [grin]
Bill
Hi Kal El,
It's great to hear from you and a what an amazing update and congratulations on your first year of hair growth. I think the bandana makes a wonderful addition and I'm sure Bill would agree with that.
Just as a side question one thing I don't understand about the education institutions over there, can't they even cut you some slack and give you have summer off and not do any classes. It just seems a bit unfair.
Keep it growing mate.
Cheers,
John.B
hey john,
well im in college so school is entirely optional, especially summer school. i cant really say "optional" for me since its impossible to land a job as a lawyer without a degree lol. i decided to go to summer school to get some electives out of the way since the work load is a lot lighter during the summer so i thought id eliminate classes that werent core classes.
thanks for the compliments :{ ]
take care!
Hi Kal El,

Your hair is looking fabulous, thick and straight, the easiest type to grow long, and it is growing quickly. Be sure to keep up the awesome growth.

I understand about college. By the way, your hair looks healthy and smooth, and it is already past your shoulders. And good job for completing your first year at college.
Be comparsion, I had been growing out my hair for 17 months, getting an unwanted trim on Month 14, for my cousin's wedding. My hair is just starting to touch my shoulders. My hair is also a bit wavy compared to yours.
Just keep your hair growing out, and you will get there.
You are welcome to send me a message on MySpace.

Wow, this is a great update!
Even though you had a headstart when growing (you didn't start out from shaved).. you had a real lot of growth in a year!
You look really different than you did a year ago.
And the bandanna and necklaces are great touches to the hair.
Hope college is going ok.
Shawn
thanks man yea i did have a update ive been trying to grow my hair for about 4 years but i went to catholic school and they had pretty strict rules so i had to keep it at the length of the 07 picture. the board helped me discover the bandanna which has become a common part of my forehead lol and college is going great

But keep studying; we can do with fewer posts of it means good grades for you. I really like the pointy beard as well, very cool. Have a good summer and hope to see you around.
