Hello, I've been wanting to grow my hair out for years, but was difficult with my job, and I just didn't want to have to deal with my boss on the subject... well, I've got a new job, and I've finally decided to just do it. It's been a month since I decided to grow my hair out, 4 months since my last cut, my goal is to grow it out to just below shoulder length.
Sorry for the poor quality of the pics, I took 'em with my camera phone just now. I'm wearing my hair like the pic in the top right for now, until I can get it to tuck behind the ears, is there any better way to wear it?
Anyway, like I said, this was just kinda an introduction to myself on these boards.
Tim
Hi Tim. Glad you're on board. I think you're going to look great with long hair.
Prepare yourself. You really have to want it. People around you will fight the concept. And, your own hair will fight you too. The awkward phase is a real bear.
There's a great motto here at MLHH. THE TWO WEEK RULE: If you feel like cutting, wait two weeks before you actually go through with it. If after two weeks you still want to cut, then go ahead. Just remember, you'll lose all the struggle you went through to get where you are ... and there's no avoiding the struggle. So, if you quit, cut, and decide to grow again, you'll have to go through the same struggle twice. Cutting takes a matter of minutes. Growing takes years.
Avoid the scissors!

I agree with you looking good with long hair. If you program your head about the information of the awkward stage and know to stay away from scissors, you will actually be more prepared to go through the awkward stage, and the awkward stage will go faster. Tip: Do not trim your hair during the awkward stage. It will only increase the time during the awkward stage. It is also a good idea to ignore whatever anyone says to you about your hair if it seems to be negative.

Excuse me, this above post is for Tim.

Good advice, thank you. I'm sure my parents are not gonna like the idea, actually, I don't think anyone in my family will like the idea... My dad was sporting long hair until he was 23, so I consider that hypocritcal, but I'm not too worried about what they think...
I really want my hair long, and my wife is very supportive of my decision, and her opinion is the only other one that truly matters to me.
Tim
Welcome and good lucky on your longhair journey. Always remember youe doing it for yourself and not you boss or anyones boss. I've never worried about what any boss of mine has said and if there was an issue I would find less draconian place to work.
Cheers,
John.B
Well, the job sucked... the job sucked badly... but it paid well enough for me to finish up my college degree, so I dealt with it, and the boss.
I'm now working as a software engineer / web developer, much better working conditions, and I'm much happier with the work I'm doing. Now I want to be happier with my hair, so, here it goes...
I'm very curious as to what my hair will look like long... short, it was thick... as it growing longer... it's growing very thick, and and for lack of a better word... fluffy? Hopefully, when it gets long enough the weight will hold it down.
Tim
Well it's certainly interesting and a an ongoing surprise as you never really know how it's going to look afer a couple of years. Keep it growing and I'm sure you will be pleased with the results.
Cheers,
John.B
It's always a surprise how your hair turns out, I thought my hair was straight but it turned out to have really nice wave in it.
About the lenght, when it's longer every type of hair will be hold down by gravity. But the curlier your hair is the longer this will take.
Welcome and Good Luck on your journey to longhair.....hang around here for lots of information and support.

Greetings Tim. you have super thick hair that I am sure will look tremendous long. It already looks great after only a few months. You may even consider growing it longer than just shoulder length in the end. You will find much support and motivation here... I know I have. I would have never made it were it not for this board. Cheers to you longhair journey!

I'm glad you have decided to take the plunge and grow your hair. You have a lot of thick dark hair, the which will look great long. Good luck along the way, and come back when you need advise or encouragement for that is what we are here for.

Welcome to the board, it's great you can/have decided to finaly grow your hair like you wanted to.
Your of to a great start, and you can find all the information here how to take care of your hair.
About the style to wear it, it's a matter of personal preference.
I chose for a middle part to keep the hair out of my eyes, the longer it gets the better it looks. I don't see anything wrong with the side part, and while it's short you can wear it down like the bottem pic.
Welcome!!! Well on your way!! Just don't cut.
Welcome Tim, glad to have you onboard! Your hair will look fantastic when you get to goal, but don't be surprised if that goal point keeps creeping lower and lower. As to how to wear it now, it looks good the way you have, similar to mine at that point. As it gets longer, you may have to gel it a bit to "tame" it. I did nothing, but I didn't have a boss to deal with (me, boss #1) Well good luck, and have fun with the journey.
Bruce
Welcome to the board! You're off to a great start. As far as how to wear it, there's really no good answer. Unfortunately there's a reason they call it the "awkward stage." lol. Some people do better than others, and it really depends on hair type. As it gets longer you may have more ideas as to what to do.
Keep us posted with regular updates, and we'll help you as best as we can.
Again, welcome!
