Hi to everyone at MLHH!! I hope you don't mind a little update from me. I just didn't want everyone to be confused by my new profile photo.
I recently removed the dark brown dye from my hair in a painfully long, but as safe as possible progression. I'm down to a light shade of blonde, which is more low maintenance for my
90%--ahem--silver hair. As careful as I was with the process, the very ends were a bit dry, and I took that opportunity to cut off 5 inches which finally gave me a straight-across hemline, with NO MORE LAYERS!!!!
I consider this just a temporary setback in my growing journey, as I'll have most of the length back in 9 months. The cut was on May 1st, and I think I've already grown at least 3/4 inch since then.
Here's a shot from the back, on May 1st.
and from the front, today:
Now on to midback and beyond!

Hi Franny,
Always good to hear from you and great to see an update picture and a lovely colour. Well I'll keep away from the t**m word or some will try to nail me on that subject lol. Of course we do these things for ourselves, but like you say in a few months it will be back to it's old length. The straight across suits your hair and you've got crisp ends to be getting on with. As for the ends just use some good conditioner.
From one of the old greyhairs on the board it's good to see you.
Cheers,
John.B
Thank you so much about the colour. Well as for the trim, sometimes we must rob Peter to pay Paul. I really am looking forward to getting my length back and then moving on to greater lengths. Yes, condition, condition, condition. That's just what I've been doing.
Thanks again.

Your hair looks Fantastic Franny! The backshot looks almost unreal how it lays so perfectly (NOTE: We recently, as you saw had a fake-hair poster lol) I know yours is 100% homegrown though! The way you style it is really nice how it swoops over rather than a straight flat part. Thanks for keeping us updated; take care!
-Phil
Thank you, Phil! Well, my hair doesn't lay perfectly for long--just long enough for the photo to be taken. As you can see from the front shot, it does get piece-y, but I'll take it! I don't really style my hair at all, so much as just running my hands through it to make a side part after it's dry.
Again, thank you.

your hair looks awesome even if u chopped it off dosent matter it looks pretty healthy and the shade really goes with your complexion i bet silver hair look equally good on you
Thank you very much, aze. I do try to keep my hair as healthy as I can. I wish I were ready to allow my silvers to grow in, but I do like a bit of colour around my face. If and when I do let it grow in naturally, it will be much easier now than when it was dark brown.
I really appreciate your kind words. :)

Hi Franny,
What an absolute delight to get an update from you. You have the most beautiful silky blond hair, with the loveliest shine and colour, and the ends are so healthy and evem.
I would like to add that it has been a genuine pleasure knowing you, both here at at the LHC, and updates from you are welcome ANYTIME!
My best to you,
David
Dear David,
You always have the kindest things to say. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
It has of course, been a pleasure to know you, sweet man that you are. We're all so lucky to have such a good friend as you.
Hugs,
Franny
Lovely hair Franny...3/4 of an inch in less than a month...wow...wish I had that growth rate. Now that's motivating!
Cheers,
Max
Max, thank you so much. Yes, my regular growth rate is about 3/4 of an inch per month. I think I've had a spurt this month though, and it just might top that.
I think by the end of the year I'll be well into lower midback territory.

Hi Franny,
I think this new color looks great. I have always been a fan of blond hair anyway. You still have a great length to work with, and like you said, you will have what was removed back in no time at all. I am really glad you post here; how could anyone "mind" an update from you!?! Thanks for all the braid photos along the way too. Maybe I can master some of those techniques one day too.
MB
Thank you Matt, for the compliments and the encouragement. I admit I was a little shy to post an update.
Well, I've been blonde for most of my life, and I really wanted to be a brunette for a while. I just didn't know it would be so much work!
Yes, my hair is still relatively long, and the way time flies, I'll be brushing waistlength before I know it.
Thanks again.

Hi Franny
The colour looks great, and in such healthy condition too, amazing. The CO routine works well for you (yes I did visit your site! very cool design and really in depth - one to bookmark).
Good to see you around again.
~ Dave
Thank you Dave! Yes, the CO routine does work well for me. Thank you also for the kind words about my site.
It's good to have been back for the last few days. I was away from most internet activities for several weeks due to illness, so I'm very happy indeed now.

Franny,
The color looks great! And your hair looks like it's in good condition.
I know what you mean about covering the "silver". My hair also bleaches out a lot in the sun (always has, even before covering the silvers). I got tired of fighting to keep it darker, so I just let it lighten up over the past couple of years. My stylist just matches whatever color it lightens to.
Since it's been lighter, the grey hair doesn't show as much. But I'm getting tired of the lighter color...thinking about going a little darker.
This picture is of the current color. (It looks darker in the picture because it was without a flash.)
The lighter color looks very good on you. Keep it growing and keep it healthy!
I hear you about getting tired of the light colour. That's what drove me to try brunette in the first place. However, it was a costly decision as far as my length goes.
I think your current colour looks great. Please let my story be a cautionary tale, and be really sure before you go changing anything.
Thank you so much for your kind words.

Hey Franny! Great to see you around the site again. The blonde color is looking spectacular, and the single-layer length works very well for you. Best of luck on making up lost inches, but it'll be back quickly. See you around... =)

It's really good to be back, James. I was away due to illness and I miss out on a lot of fun.
Thank you so much for your kind words.

Wow! Franny it looks great and you did a good job on it. I know we
tend to get wound up about the "T" word but it is part of the hair growing process and you've achieved a great look.
As you say by early next year you'll be back to where you were in terms of length.
The new pic is great although I liked the old one as well. Your lucky your very good in front of the camera very photogenic.
Kevin
Thank you for being so understanding about the "T" word. It certainly wasn't a part of my 5 year plan, but it needed to be done at this time. Just a short delay, as far as I'm concerned.
Thank you so much for the very nice compliments. And yes, I did it all myself. :)

Looks great!!!
Thank you kindly!

Wow what a difference, I don't know if I like the old or the new color better they look both good on you.
To bad you lost some lenght but at least you can grow it with all the same lenght. I will do the same at some point in my journey I think.
Yes, it is quite a difference. I'm with you. I'm not sure which look I like better, but I do know that this is closer to what is now my natural colour, and therefore easier to maintain.
You're right; my length with be back before I know it!
Thank you so much for your comments.

Just superb Franny! Your hair exudes healthiness and I love the all-one-length look. Very pretty color too!
Thank you so very much Jason. You're always very kind.
I still can't get over how long your hair is looking these days.

Very nice!! I need say no more. :O)
Hi Franny
Well I have to say your hair after the trim looks fantastic!
Normally I'd cringe at that kind of loss of length but I trust it had to be done. The back pic of the length looks awesome and very healthy so now I would just leave it alone and just let your hair grow out as long as you let it.Btw is that your natural colour?Regardless you are so lucky to have hair of such quality. Thanks for posting the pics.Take care and have a great day.
Mark
Thank you so much!
I would ordinarily cringe myself at the loss of length, but indeed, it did have to be done. Now, I do plan on leaving it alone, and I hope to get to waist length sometime next year. My next goal, Mother Nature willing, is tailbone length, which conservatively will be in about 2 1/2 years. From there, who knows? I can't wait to find out!
Thanks again.

Wow! Your natural color is gorgeous, like spun gold. Good work removing the artificial color. It doesn't look like it was damaged.
Thank you very much. My natural colour is actually pretty much silver at this point, so I do dye my hair to blonde.
Now that it's the way I want it, I dye my roots only when necessary.

Your hair looks gorgeous, Franny. It looks like there is very little damage as well. You should now be able to grow it really long, if you choose to do so.
Scott
Scott, thank you very much. I do indeed plan to grow it as long as Mother Nature and good haircare will allow.

Hi Franny. I think your hair looks healthier here than it has in any of the other photos you have taken. With the trim it really looks good.
My compliments.

I graciously accept your compliments, Big Fella! I don't think I've ever taken such good care of my hair, and I'm happy that it shows.
Thank you very much, George!

Very impressive hair and a really nice colour Franny!:D
Is it that straight naturally or do you straighten it?
Thank you so much! I really appreciate your kind comments.
I would never use a heat product on my hair *ever*, so yes, my hair is naturally pin straight. I used to hate that, but now I really have learned to love it! :)

You seem to be taking it all in stride, Franny. Those inches will be back in no time, and the straight hemline is nice. The ligher shade looks quite good on you too.
Keep it growing!

Hi, your hair looks a lot like Elizabeth Montgomery's...! Very nice. Coincidentally, a close friend just had several inches trimmed from her hair. I know she was heartbroken to have to do it, but she just had to. She's been my best person for encouragement as my hair passed my shoulders. It will be nice to see your progress as I watch hers grow longer as well. Best wishes.
