Just came across this board today and thought I'd jump right in. I started growing my hair out for the first time when I was about 15, by the time I graduated it was shoulder length, but right after graduation I went into the Marine Corps and had to chop it all off. I was kind of glad to get it chopped off that first time since I didnt take care of it all that well and it was basically a huge mess. But now I've got a girlfriend that happens to adore long hair on men, I told her its her responsibility to help me keep mine from going to s**t this time, LOL. Only had one haircut since August 07 (just a trim in the back to even it up a bit) Luckily I've been able to avoid the habit of tucking it behind my ears while its still this short, and avoided that "wing" look. Heres a pic from last week showing my progress so far from a buzz cut, unfortunately I'm still in the phase that when I get outside in the wind its a constant battle to keep it out of my eyes and tamed down
Welcome. Glad you're here. Hair looks healthy. You are on your way to having a great mane. Keep it growing.

Hi John and welcome to the mlhh as you've found longhair central!LOL.So far your hair looks great and its a shame that the Marines set you back a bit on your progress.Well thats the problem with the military as they are not longhair friendly!LOL.Anyway your doing great so far and if you take care of your hair early on you'll be ahead of the game. Please do keep us posted.

Hi John,
First of all, welcome to the hyperboard, and I am delighted that you have found our community. You have come such a long ways in only 6 months from a buzzcut, and it is thick and healthy. Be sure to keep up the great growth!
Welcome aboard,
David
Your hair looks really cool and good for only having grown it for nine months. As you already know, the longer it gets the easier it'll get to deal with in the wind and such. Good luck with continued growing. That's a great picture too. The rock formations on the opposite side of that stream look like somewhere in the Appalachians, maybe in Tennessee or Western North Carolina. Prove me wrong; where is it? ;-)

I'm actually in Northeastern, PA, not far from Scranton.
Well that makes sense too as the same mountain chain extends into that area of the country. I'm no geologist but I did used to collect various rocks. Those flat-looking shale type rock are found near streams in NC and TN but apparently exist in your region too. You can see it really well where roads have been cut through rock formations, all the layers and such. The Appalachian mountain chain is very old, thus weathered and containing different rock types vs. newer mountains like the Rockys or such.
I love the colour of your hair! I think you'll look great with your hair all the way through the process of growing it.
Hi John and welcome to yhe community. Doing a stint in the marines is certainly an honorable thing and a more than reasonable excuse to have cut it. I'm glad you decided to grow it long again once it gets a certain length it will behave well for you.
You've got a great start and will have an awesome mane in the future.
Kevin

Your hair looks good, and I am glad you have found the board. Remember that when you grow out your hair, your hair will go through an awkward phase, where it will seem to go out of control. But you made good progress so far.
