alrighty, well, i've almost been growin my hair for a year almost and just thought i'd throw out some questions ive been pondering.
once i get to pony-tail length, will i achieve that standard straight hair type look? i hate this dreaded wave lol, my hair is also decently thick so that may serve as a problem?
or what would be a good way to get that look after one comes out of the shower? i will post a pic soon hopefully to give some insight.
its not all quite the same length, most of my hair can fit a pony tail fine aside from my bangs to just in front of my ear;. i was contemplating trimming it to the same length once that shorter area became much longer, unless of course it evens out, all in due time i guess.
Even wavy hair straightens out when it gets long enough. When your hair gets longer, it gets more massive, and gravity have a stronger effect on your hair. Let gravity do the work. Obviously, you are going through your awkward stage. If your hair looks uneven, the difference will be less noticable when your hair is longer.

From what I've heard if you put your hair in a ponytail when it's still wet from the shower it will come out straight when dry.
Also the longer it get's the gravity will get more hold of it, I already notice that now at just 9 months of growth. As you can see from my avatar pic I have a lot wave.
Hi there. Welcome to the forum!
Embrace the wave! lol. Lots of people would do anything to have wavy hair. It's a royal pain right now, but when it's longer it'll look great; trust me.
As far as evenness goes, you have two options:
1) Trim it up even now. It will take longer to reach your final destination, but when you do, it'll be "finished" in the sense that it will all arrive at the same length at the same time.
2) Wait to trim it until you're at the length you want. You'll reach your target length faster, but you'll have to grow past that length for the shortest pieces to catch up so the longer pieces can be trimmed.
So really the trimming is up to you, and in the end it really takes the same amount of time, it's just a matter of what you are comfortable with in the interim.
And get some pics ASAP; we'll be able to give you better advice.

Hard to say with the description I think I'll wait for the pic to suggest something.
