hi, i have thick hair, i was wondering if any good product out there will get me more soft and souple hair after a shower. once i was at my friend's country house, i came out of the shower with hair really soft, he told me it was because of the water..??!! can i reproduce that effect in the city?? thanx
Sounds like your friends house benefits from a naturally "soft" water supply, and as you noticed, it is good to wash in. You also find that, amongst other things, soap lathers much easier and goes further plus the insides of electric kettles, coffee makers etc don't get furred up with chalky limescale.
If you do live in an area where the water supply is "hard" ie; it has a higher Calcium and [or] Mineral content, the quality can be improved by passing it through something called a "Softener". This works by taking the dissolved minerals out of suspension.
Basically, these can range from larger units placed in the supply line to treat all the water coming into a building, down to filter jugs that soften a few Pints for drinking etc. I suppose one of these jugs could be used as a way to produce just enough soft water for a hairwash rinse, but I reckon that would be more trouble than it's worth.
A simpler way to softer and more supple hair might be by use of a Conditioner [assuming you don't already]. Apart from having a moisturizing effect, some of these products contain ingredents that mitigate the effects of mineral deposits being left in the hair after washing in "hard" water.
Hope this helps
