mmm, I absolutely love long hair on guys; beautiful. But is there any reason why some men prefer long to short? What are some reasons you guys go long? ;D Thanks.. ;)
LOng hair is so cool, I have long hair for a few reasons
1. I love long hair ( I think everyone looks better with long hair men and women)
2. I play in a hard rock/metal band ( it don't look cool to play metal and look like a short haired preppy wimp)
3. most men have short hair and why look like everyone else, plain, simple, lame and boring.
I myself actually think I look a thousand times better with long hair.... (I have big ears...lol...) my hair currently reaches mid back length, it's blonddish-brown, very straight, and very silky... unfortunately it's very oily too, have to wash and condition everyday, but just to feel all it's length and silkiness as it cascades down my back gives me the shivers!!!!! I for one, could never go back to being a short hair, and plan on growing it to terminal length...
hopefully to my ass or farther....
Hey also live in Tampa, and am looking for other longhaired friends, local longhairs living in the Tampa/St. Pete area would be great but would love to make longhaired friends anywhere... if your travelling through FL or the Tampa area be sure to give me a shout and lets meet I'm always willing to host other longhairs passing through the area!
My reasons are somewhat complex:
I initially grew it because I was tired of my wavy hair looking like "the wild man from Borneo", I could comb it, and 5 minutes later I looked worse than the proverbial junkyard dog! The long hair is far
neater.
I'm a Greek folk dancer - the long hair goes with the costume.
I'm a huge believer in 'masculine beauty', I like to look good, the
scruffy look isn't for me. Long, well cared for hair enhances this.
My wife likes it!

I've preferred long hair since the 60s. Grew my hair long
in the 60s, got thrown ouf school for it, etc.

Why have long hair? Because I like it long, I hate short hair,
many of my favorite rock bands had long hair, etc.
=========
Initially, I grew it long 'cause I worked 60+ hours a week on nights, and it was too much hassle to get up on my barber's schedule to get it cut. Now I just let it grow 'cause it looks better, and it seems more "sensual." Feels good, anyway. Also, more hair on the scalp in winter keeps me a bit warmer, and I can wet it in summer and let the evaporating water keep me cool. Works both ways, very practical.

1. I have had short hair all my life and I want a change (i am 16 and starting over after having a almost chin lenght undercut)
2. I like standing out, I don't like looking like all the other guys at my school.
3. I really like the way it looks.
4. I'm a musician.
5. I love getting insulted or questioned by all the trendy people at my school. It's such a great feeling to know they don't see me as one of them because I don't want to be one of them, I feel they are extremely ignorant and puppets of whatever the media tells them to do.
I had my hair no longer than 1 inch all my life. My mother wanted me almost with a shaved head, and it was awful. As soon as I saw the opportunity I let it grow a bit, and I simply embarked in the going beyond my original plans idea, and now my goal has progressively changed from just a little length, to shoulderblade aim.
Long hair is fun, looks better on almost everyone (generally does when taken care of). It gives a lot of variety and as a difficult achievement it is special (not everyone survives the awckward stage).
Short hair is dull, boring, and gives almost no chance for different styles.
My hair is just a bit off the "short" definition, and I already love playing with it. Long hair is awesome. I don't know if I'll have short hair again. I would love to grow out and keep it long till I dies, but its not easy. Meanwhile I don't plan to cut in 5 or 6 years. (I will trim to keep length and snip split ends, I meant, keeping my hair long)
Hmmm, good question. In my case, it was twofold. Firstly, I never really have liked short hair, and secondly, I find that I look a lot better with the hair on the top of my head laying down, instead of sticking out in every single direction, which was how it was when I had short hair. Never wanted to do what I wanted it to do, so I grew it out and started wearing it in a ponytail that starts just above my ears and hangs down to the bottom of my neck (will be about 2-3 times as long in the next couple years, tho)...

I have always liked the look, tired of shaving my head.
Oh, and my boyfriend is a longhair... and he likes it that I am growing my hair.
It's part of my core identity. I have wanted long hair since the time I can remember. I don't feel complete without it.
Tina, I'm really glad to know that another girl likes long-haired men. Hmm... I like long hair because:
1. My hair quality "seems" good :)
2. I'm by nature, rebellous. Not to the full meaning to the word "rebel" but simply, do not like to go with the flow (but of course, if long hair becomes the norm, I WOULD go with the flow :)).
3. Long hair to me is sensuous, I always feel very sexy with my hair loose.
4. I love the feel of my own hair on my body.
5. Long hair beautifies any human being.
In conclusion, I just love long hair, it is in me :)
It always seemed more natural to me...and it is.
Hair is different from person to person and when allowed to grow to the point that it shows it's natural properties it lends a natural character to the individual who is a part of it.
Shortened hair (especially to the point of having no real movement) changes the "natural" character of a person, usually in an attempt to look like others by the simple means of cutting it down till it resembles other people's hair.
I'm not saying that longhairs don't resemble each other or don't want to look like other longhairs or don't manipulate their hair, rather I am speaking of the natural character that each individual has which can be seen when it is allowed to be exposed (grown).
People kept telling me when I was young that I had nice thick hair, so I reasoned that if I had good quality hair of a type that others would like to have for themselves then why am I cutting it? I should be enjoying it instead of getting rid of it...that means growing it.
I also think that it is far more versatile than short hair.
I've often wondered about this too. Aside from all the obvious personal adornment, enjoyment, health and safety reasons etc. for me perhaps as for others (?) going long is something youve always felt totally compelled to do. But whether however this is due to some unconscious need for personal freedom, self-expression or freedom of expression etc. I really dont know so its almost impossible I think to ever answer for sure....
Perhaps elements of all these three mutual I think to both male and female, might be inherited and in our genes ? Passed down from one generation to the next etc. ? Or perhaps due to a natural at oneness freedom with ones body and mind instinctive rebellion against all forms of cloned artificial self-mutilation ? An enhancement of ones identity ? The fear of it being short ? The avoidance of depression ? Forced to conform during childhood ? Increased self-confidence ? A statement of personal lifestyle ? Having strong and clearly defined moral senses and values ? Or perhaps small combinations of all of the above ?
One thing that will always be certain I think is the sheer enjoyment of its amazing varieties, its silky textures, its body and weight and its natural flowing movements as it's quite impossible to imagine anything that could have been better designed ! Especially when its worn long and loose on a lady which has always left me utterly spellbound and always will ! They become so very very beautiful and mystical ..ho hum....one day....sigh !! :-)
But the very best thing of all I think for me has got to be never really knowing why you want it long as it would somehow spoil it. Always to remain so subjective and always so tantalisingly just out of reach ..:-) No ?

I wonder what would have happened though if Society had decided that we must all wear our hair long instead ?
very good question. i guess initially i wanted hair a little longer than the norm... for want of an attentive non-scissors-happy stylists my quest for maintenance was lost and i decided to just grow it out mostly without trims about 5 years ago.
along the way i found that i like the way it looks on me & the longer it gets the better i like it.
received a rare compliment saturday while taking an auto emissions test: had trouble with the gas cap door and the female attendant smiled and said "it must be the hair". after the test she said, "you really do have nice hair". i thanked her.
Because its me. Always has been.
Good question. I don't know the answer for sure but I think that it may be because I like women with long hair and assume that they also like men with long hair.
Although I have come across a few women that absolutely hate men with long hair, it seems to me that they represent only a very small minority. My current girlfriend likes it long but is a little paranoid about what other people think about it--when I had it cut into a collar length "bob" style she went a little bit nuts.
Now I wear it in a shoulder length layered cut and she is fine with it. The funny thing is that before I got the final "approval" to wear it long she took the opportunity to give me a pile of crap about it being to too long in front of one of her freinds. When her girlfriend vocifericly came out for the long style, all opposition ended.
I will probably let it get another three or four inches longer and then try another bob style.
Why do you like guys with long hair?
It's beautiful, I think most everyone looks better with long hair; (especially guys), it's so naturally attractive. It creates a nice frame for the face.. There was a guy I once saw who had long red-brown straight hair pulled back in a pony tail; the color of his hair was so natural and uncommon and the fact that he wore it long said that he is really comfortable with how he was made and who he is in general. There are so many guys who cut all there hair off and glop gel and hairspray on it to wear it in a "style" so they can be attractive. These guys miss the point..!. There is so much more beauty in seeing someone embrace there natural attributes without having to lean on pop culture for guidance and aid to express who they are; and why/what's supposed to make them beautiful in anyone's eyes. It's being true to what you are given and how you are naturally made. and that's very sexy... Rare also..
Enjoyable topic and thread with some interesting replies too....lol !
;)
its just more feminine and way sexier. the longer the better
For one, my wife loved my long hair when I had it 2 years ago.....secondly, I loved it too.
I have always loved long hair on men. I remember being a little girl and just staring at all of the men with long hair in public. My brother had long hair as did other men in my family and my boyfriend (who died 2 years ago) and I would always want to brush it for them. I think it is sexy and looks great on most men. I love your site and I hope you inspire other long-haired men to make their own sites. Thank you and keep up the great work.
I've always loved long hair on women for much the same reasons too....sexy brushing and so on. I also think it's the same sort of feeling for both male and female as long hair always seems to emphasise the gender of the wearer.
