Has anyone around here ever taken the position to just say "Ahh, screw it!" when they see split ends. No trim, no worry. Just let it go. I mean, do you think back in the pre-mirror days anyone cared about split ends? For "primitive" people do you think split ends was a problem?
I know, I know-- you want your hair to look good. But what would come of it if you just let it grow without worrying about it. Don't abuse it, but just let it go...
What would that lead to?
we don't really need to brush our teeth or bathe either!!! lol oh the good old caveman days, yep those were some good times! I like healthy hair. When I see bad damaged hair I cringe.
Things in the "caveman" days were done for utility, not looks.
That's why I was curious. They had different ways of doing different things-- bathing, taking care of teeth etc. Actually, because of their diets, their teeth didn't require anything near the amount of care as ours.
I was just wondering what would come of someone's hair who let it grow, shampooed, conditioned, fine, but wasn't totally stressed out over split ends and didn't rush to get a trim every time they made an appearance.
But what would come of it if you just let it grow without worrying about it.
Then u get the problem i have gotten ! The hair breaks and breaks and gets much damage !
Yep. Splits happened because when I first started growing my hair out I didn't know how to care for it. One haircutter told me all my hair was going to split all the way up to the roots and I'd be bald if I didn't let him trim my mane way back. I wasn't about to go for that, so I just learned how to care for long hair and sat back to see what would happen. I hoped for the best and I got it.
My hair never got any shorter. The nice well-cared-for hair just pushed out at my roots like undyed hair does and shoved the trashed hair further down my back. The trashed hair kept breaking off at about the same distance from my scalp as it always had. As the well-cared-for hair reached what I feared was my terminal length before, the trashed hair had almost all broken off. After that, my hair started getting longer again, and now it's nice right down to the tips. I have no split ends at all. And, LONGER HAIR!
Someone on here pointed out what would happen to individual splits if not trimmed off, and I found him to be right: Once a strand has split, the split travels up a little ways, until it gets to where the hair is not so weak (because it is younger) and the split just stops. Meanwhile, hair on both sides of the split is weakened considerably by the existence of the split, so one side and soon the other side just breaks off at the start of the split. What you are left with is a strand with a broken-off end, hardly noticeable without a high-powered magnifying glass.
