I am a student in Wales. I am also Welsh. These facts mean that I am required to drink heavily until the sick stage 4 times a week. What is this likely to do to my hair? Will it mess up growth? I'm not sure whether it has done yet but it is kinda long now. Plus what does stress do for ones hair growth? and why when we brush our hair when wet is it bad?
I don't know about binge drinking, but chronic alcoholics often do not suffer male-pattern baldness, principally because alcohol consumption leads to a substantial decrease in the production of testosterone. This leads to an expression of the estrogen which is naturally produced in both genders. It's a hormonal thing.
my dear boy I would be more concerned about your liver right now and not your hair. Would be nice if you had a body left to carry that hair around. I really don't think hair is something you need to worry about. Drinking to the point of sick is called ALCOHOL POISONING!!! you need a wake up call. Hope you find some help.

My Reply: Everyone binge drinks when they are young in University. Plus I have never had any liver pains. As long as you don't drink alcoholic spirits, just beer, you shouldn't get liver problems because there is plenty of water in the beer to help it through. Thankfully the other reply gave me the answer to my previous question and my hair will not be affected. However if it did hinder hair growth I would have minimised my drinking.
I have been in university, and EVERYONE most certainly does not binge drink 4-5 times a week to the point of sick. ONLY the losers and the alcoholics, and funny I don't remember seeing any of them at the graduation ceremony, oh yes they did turn up for the PARTY, probably the next four years too while they tried to get their degrees ! lol Whatever makes you think that you can drink that much and not have your health affected is wrong. And alcohol causes dehydration and I'm quite sure it will affect your precious hair in a negative way, will that make you reassess your lifestyle now?
You may have gone to caveman university then and not in Britain. I have passed my first year and continue to do well. The fact that I haven't been sick through beer in about...oh I can't remember speaks volumes. I went out yesterday and caught two girls trying to touch my hair when I wasn't looking. Yes I was drunk. It was a Friday. There were no lectures the next day. When I said that I binge drank 4 times to the point of sickness I was refering to specific weeks that have only occured twice. I was just checking yet I get told I need to grow up and I am going to die. This week I have been out three times and been really drunk just twice, I was not sick. I won't go out again this week. Although my long haired self could manage it. Long hair rocks.
No alcohol in beer??? I love your self justification. (that's sarcasasm, BTW)
LOL MG!!!! haha no alcohol in beer.....

Adriano....you say you are Welsh and "these facts" mean that you are "required" to drink heavily. Are you implying that being Welsh means that all Welsh people are drunks!....at least that is what I am reading into your statement. Before I pass judgement, would you mind explaining to me what those first three sentences in your statement mean from your point of view.
I appologise for any inconvenience caused. I have not said that beer is unalcoholic. By submitting this question about alcohol I was merely trying to find out what my freshers week crazyness may have done to me. I guess all of you guys are from America and have strict controls upon alcohol. Well in Wales it is not uncomon to see 14 year olds drinking, plus in Spain, providing you can see over the bar I think, you can drink at any age. I think that maybe USA is so powerful because you don't drink so much. Drinking is an escape from your troubles and can become addictive. When I say I am 'required' to drink as heavily as I do it simply means that my friendship group does and I sort of feel obligated to do the same, although I don't always. All Welsh people are not drunks but I feel that we, on average, do drink too much. From now on I will minimise my drinking, as it has upset me that so many feel it 'wrong' and will go out just 3 times a week, getting drunk (Merry drunk) 2 of those times and spaced out so my body has time to recover slightly. When I am not in University I drink once a week or twice if there is a party. As a longhair I feel that I am letting the group down as well so I shall cease.
I must tell you that I ain't an American but yet, I seldom drink (not to say binge drink). Of course, peer pressure can sometimes be overwhelming but I'll always evaluate if the things I'm pressured to do is harmful to my body and, do I like it at all? If not, I'd rather sacrifice such so called "friends" than myself.
And it is exactly due to such "stubborn" character, that I can have long hair amongst a predominantly short-haired community.
Take care man!
Best to you,
Jin
I have to agree with "ponytail girl". I too, spent a lot of time at University (undergraduate, masters and Ph.D.) and I personally have only been drunk (the the point of sickness) once. And I am from Canada, where people like their beer. None of my friends were drunk every week, either. I understand that you are young and feel invincible, and your case is a poster case as to why the USA has a 21 minimum drinking age; it is usually when people are well in their twenties that they are mature enough to handle alcohol responsibly.
I imagine it is damaging your hair. And your liver, kidneys, heart, etc. Binge drinking 4 times a week is severe alcoholism, no matter where you are from. I will be travelling to Wales this summer; I will see if in fact everybody there binge drinks 4 times a week. I find it unlikely.
Contrary to popular belief, university is not a place to party all of the time. Those who do quickly disappear by their second year. I just hope your health can take it.
binge drinking to the point of getting sick is all well and good if that's what you're into- but here are some things worth considering:
the operative ingredient in beer is ethyl alcohol- the same thing that's in hard liquor. alcohol is a poison.
the levels of alcohol that would be necessary to alter hormones to the point of affecting hair growth would most certainly do tremendous damage to your liver, kidneys, stomach, brain, heart... etc.
if you pass out before you get sick you might drown in your own vomit-
if you are drunk to the point of being sick you are likely unable to protect yourself from someone with scissors who has decided you really need a haircut. there's one hangover you dont want!
i've binge drank myself... to the point of being sick. i've woken up at home wondering how i got there... not able to remember driving home. it's not something that has added to my life- i have lost good friends because of things ive said and done while drunk. needless to say it's not something i do now- nor is it something i recommend to anyone else for any reason, including welsh tradition.
