I've been told not to trim your hair during the awkward stage because it will prolong the stage, and I have to wait even more. If so, what about split ends? I'm sure I don't have them currently, however I am a bit concerned. WHEN should I trim my hair during the awkward stage without like any way or prolonging the stage?
Also, once I get my camera fixed I will show progress of 7 months growing :)
I don't know if this directly answers your question, but there should be no reason, as far as split ends go that you should need a trim within the first year of growth, and likely not until nearing the end of the second year. I'd say just let it go, for now certainly.

I assume that the reason your here is cuz you want long hair. JUST DON'T TRIM!!!! WAIT TILL THE END OF YEAR TWO, if ever.
Hi Patrick,
I never discovered any split ends on my own hair, for example, until it got considerably past shoulder-length (somewhere between about the 2nd and 3rd year of uninterrupted growth). While everybody's hair is different (a few people have the genetics that don't let them get split ends at all, lucky bastards - lol), I believe that most guys here will concur that you can at least fearlessly wait until after the 2-year mark, --- which is just about the time when you'll frinally be able to ponytail your mane. Hair ends don't usually split all that much until approaching around mid-back, or so I've observed with most folks (myself included). So, I'd say that unless your hair is unusual prone to splitting, and you notice a LOT, don't worry about that issue...
Re. trimming during the awkward stages for reasons other than splits or other similar damage, I agree w/ the others that your journey will go quicker if you just, ride it out! The only exception to that rule would be if you ever become too tempted to someday, "throw in the towel", --- whether you just don't like how it's looking, or how awkwardly it flips, or how it's shaped, etc. --- instead of cutting it all off back to short, then go in for a light trim instead. Better to cut just a small amount off, even if it prolongs the awkward stage, if it ends up making you happier enduring the journey, than to try and stick it out & have to think you look horrible every time you see yourself in the mirror! There were plenty of "medium-length" styles that i actually didn't mind looking at during my own hair growth journey. The first time I grew my own mane out (duringing the early 90s), I had several trims before it got to ponytail length. The 2nd time i grew my hair out (right after a horribly haircut in Y2K), I pretty much grew it out close to non-stop. They BOTH got me the long hair I wished for; just that the 2nd time around, it grew out much faster!
Good luck, --- and enjoy the journey!!

Thanks a lot Ken :)
I agree with the others so now you've been told by us to hold off on the trimms. Split ends aren't the end of all things, unless you have them really really bad just wait a while.
Hope you get your camera fixed soon.... perhaps you could borrow a friends camera in the meantime.
