Some of us work and have to look "decent", so being in the awkward stage is a real nightmare (at least for me).
What did/do you do to keep your hair "tidy" or at least "decent-looking" ?
I bet this question sounds retarded, but Im curious what people do during awkward stage :p
Hi there,
I was quite lucky as it wasn't alot of hastle. The only days I used to hate way windy says as you could not control it and I was careful where I went outdoors.
Cheers,
John.B
I found a hat that I liked and covered my head with it. I also found it useful to wet my hair a lot. I don't like using gels or sprays.
A hat. Or (not the best but it works) A gel that has little or no alcohol.
If it isn't too hot, wear a hoodie and pull over the hood when the wind blows.
I used a styling brush and curled the sides inward so they would curl out a bit but not too far when drying. A styling brush is a cylinder of bristles on a handle.
When the sides got too long to curl like that I used styling clips to hold them down while drying.
All this was a pain for about a year but eventually it gets long enough to hang down under its own weight so you can go out with it damp and let it dry while you are doing things.
I didn't like hats or head bands because they'd leave a smashed down ring around my head. Some guys use grease or hair spray but that was too yuck for me.
I used an alcohol free gel to keep my hair in place. It worked pretty well. Once I could put my hair in a ponytail, I had much more control and didn't need to rely on the gel.
I "feel your pain," as the hair right around my ears is smack dab in the middle of the "awkward stage" when hanging down. It's thankfully just starting to get long enough to be tied back in a ponytail, so I'm doing that after I've slept on it, which makes it do all kinds of crazy things. But since not all of it will fit, the wind can wreak havoc if it's blowing up from behind.
I'm dreaming of the day when I'll be able to wash my hair, towel dry it, run a brush through it, then be on my way without having to fuss with styling it or blow drying.
I don't like to use gel, so what I do is finger comb it and use water to keep the flyaways down. My hair is not super neat but it doesn't have to be most of the time.
At my work (burger king) I wear a baseballcap and ponytail whatever fits in right now.
The awkward stage is a pure nightmare for me! I have very thick, curly hair that's too short for a ponytail.
I work at a nightclub and to keep it neat I pull a plain black hairband over the top and sides of my hair. I also put in some gel or if my hair feels dry, I put in some conditioner.
At work the top and sides of my hair are flat and combed back, but behind the hair band my hair sticks out everywhere, and one side of my hair is very different from the other side, so I know I look very funny.
I hope that helped
Shawn
Fortunately, I feel that I've never beent rhough an awkward phase during my many hair growths. When growing it from short hair or a buzz, I'd just comb it down until I had enough length for it to swoop it to the side and push it over my ears; kind of like indie musicians wear theirs or like a Beatle or Dave Grohlish. This style pretty much looked great all during the transition phase to actual and official Long Hair. Either way you stle yours, it's only a phase and in a few months your hair will look killer and long.

man at this stage i used to wear caps whenever i went out u just do what suits u at this stage that simple cap hat band oil what ever u feel comfortable in
I actually have learned the fact that people, who want to grow out their hair, will have to go through an awkward stage when the hair is most likely to go over the place. Once I learned about it, and the desire of growing out my hair is strong, I am not tempted to cut it. During the stage where my hair is getting in the way of my eyes, I wore bobby pens in my front hairs to hold my hair out of the way of my eyes. I also frequently combed my hair during that stage. Now, I had passed at least the worst part of the stage as my hair rarely get in the way of my eyes.
Regardless

I used to slick it back eventhough I didn't like the look I lived with it. Hats were my friends also.
