Here's my opinion on metal music. I don't listen to metal. The music gives me a headache listening to metal. I listen to most other kinds of music.
Regardless

Metal pawns man,you should try listening to some really good death metal, power metal bands, like COB,Arch Enemy,In Flames...there are many.
I love your posts, man. You just call it like you see it, eh?
I'm with you in regards to metal. And I mean no disrespect to the other members, as I can tell it's the genre of choice around here. I just don't get it...
And yes, I did listen to some of the suggested bands listed in the previous post...still nothing. But to each their own! Peace.
Eric H.
Good for you and there is more to music than In-loo!
If Iron Maiden gives you a headache something is wrong with you. When you say "metal" gives you a headache, my guess is you actually mean death metal.
What I am saying that any music that is extremely strong or have explicit lyrics can give me a headache listening to. Yes, death metal is up there. When I mean metal, I mean Death Metal. I classify regular metal as rock or alternative. And any song with explicit lyrics or negativity in lyrics are not on the list of music I like to listen to, 'regardless' of genre. That's the way I am.
Regardless

That's totally understandable. There are so many sub-genres in metal that range from very melodic to almost just noise, so it's hard to classify it all as one group sometimes.
What exactly was the point in posting this? I am by no means taking exception to your dislike of metal...I am just befuddled as to why anybody would randomly throw out their opinion on a topic when it was neither requested nor at all relevant to the discussion at hand (i.e shoes).

You may like symphonic metal. It has a lot of melody to it. It is sort of a combination of classical music and rock. The above link is to an one hour Nightwish concert and was posted here about 2 years ago.
Scott
Agreed! I even got people who are into crappy rap/hiphop into symphonic/power metal... Nightwish is excellent, as well as Rhapsody (of Fire), Dark Moor, Epica are also worth a try, Regardless.
Good advise Scott,
-Phil
Awesome bands man.. symphonic metal rulez! I would add Angra, Adagio, Symphony X, Wintersun(in a way).
Jacob
Excellent taste Jacob, I already full discogs on all of those bands already lol. Can't wait for the next Wintersun...killer guitarist!
-Phil
WOW good on you Phil! Yea man Jari's solos are insane! And he's got pretty cool hair too LOL
Jacob
Haha YES! His mane looks awesome in this photo; he's got his black metal face on lol...don't know why he uses a telecaster though, he's way too good for it heh.
Maybe he's wayyyy too good to care about his equipments hahah. He'll prob get the best sounds out of the crappiest guitar in the world =) His sweep-picking (should be careful not to say sweet-picking; a common typo for me LOL) on 'death and the healing' was just... wow can't say enough in words.
cheers,
Jacob
"He'll prob get the best sounds out of the crappiest guitar in the world =)"
Haha well said!!! True, his sweeping is amazing on that track, also in the very beginning of "Beyond the Dark Sun". Hey do you have any other recommendations? Melodic Black or Epic Power metal? Take care Jacob.
-Phil
Hm well I already mentioned some of my favourites. I would also add Helloween, Gamma Ray (Kai is awesome), Dungeon, Lord Tim, At the Gates, Arch Enemy, COB, Celtic Frost, Dark Tranquillity, Primal Fear, In Flames, Pagan's Mind maybe more but those are the only I can think of right now for Power and Melodic Death metals. I want to explore more bands but I just don't have time these days.
Well, Phil do YOU have any recommendations for Melodic death or other Death Metal bands (brutal, technical etc)? I don't care what others say, I love them lol maybe not so much the words but their styles, instrumentations and, of course death growls!
Good luck with your mane Phil,
Jacob
Hey Jacob,
I appreciate the recommendations, fortunatly I have albums from literally all of those except Lord Tim (never heard them, will DEF check out) and Celtic Frost (I can't get into them). The rest of your recommendations are all signs of excellent taste and while I'm not huge on traditional death metal, I can absolutely appreciate it, though melodeath rules!...I'm going to the ATG reunion in July which should be awesome!
As far as I can recommend, and I'm going to be a bit obscure because I'm guessing you know and have heard all of the obvious ones, try:
Power: Pandaemoneum, Derdian, Fairyland, Dragonland & Highland Glory.
Melodic Black: Nokturnal Mortum, Drautran, Obtained Enslavement, Enthroned.
Melodic Death: Mercenary, Into Eternity...(that's all I can really think of, and they're acutally power metal/melodeath hybrid bands).
Good talking to you man. My email's hevymetalphil@yahoo.com if you wanna talk more "metal"
-Phil
If you like Epica, I'd suggest you to listen to After Forever (the same composer).
I'll def check them out thanks man ; )
Any body know of Kalmah?
Doctor Martens are pretty popular among metalheads.
They look like this:

Omg,I want that sooo baddddd >.<.
Quite cheap in UK!
You're a metalhead! You aren't supposed to care :].
Honestly, anything will do. Usually it's something that's black, because 99.9 % of metalheads wear black band t-shirts all the time (I certainly do :]).
Just go for comfort. And I always thought that "skinheads" wore Doc Martens? Meh, I guess they're good if they're comfortable :].
Well just to buck the trend I wear plain black t-shirts and comfortable shoes and docs taek tiem to wear in!
I like to wear comfortable shoes too. I've bought the same pair for 3 years so far :].
And I'll admit to owning a polo.
Well I'm sure Ihsahn would not worry what sort of shoes we wear, being from Norway!
Anything that you like! You don't have to be just like everybody else. I wear everything from work boots, black Dr. Martens, to white sneakers. It depends what mood I'm in. BTW, I'm a drummer in two bands. One plays old and new metal, the other band is all "party rock" stuff. Again I say, wear whatever you like.

Splat
I wear these.
They are a dark color, really comfortable, and don't make me look like "that weird kid in class" at college. I do wear boots to shows a lot to protect my toes from getting crushed from other boot wearers.
It doesn't matter what kind of shoes you wear, whatever you like.
You cant go wrong with black shoes usually. Try to avoid wearing nike or addidas shoes. Look into the skateboarding shoe
variety, with brands such as vans or adio. These are the types of shoes I wear anyway.
If you wanna look metal you cant go wrong with copying the clothing what metal bands wear
What the hell kind of question is that? Just be yourself man and wear whatever feels comfortable
Hey Jaden.
I honestly rock converse chuck T's everyday...I have black lowtops and red hightops. The reds counterbalance my black/death metal demeanor (plus girls like them) and add a little color as well as make me feel "80's" as a lot of the 80's metalheads rocked pink/red/orange converse. When I play gigs, I use Dr. Martins....just the black steeltoe ones, not the raincoat looking ones with the yellow threading. The black Dr. Martins go with anything by the way, they even look OK if you wear them with dress clothes lol (as long as the pants go over the hightop part). But every man has his own tastes, as far as metal goes or any style goes. Also check out New Rocks boots. They're a little over the top but they look killer sometimes. Take care!

When I go to Festivals the last thing I notice is the shoes people wear. I wear Columbia Trail Master, good for hiking as the fields get muddy sometimes and good for climbing over Hedgerows.
Function over form for me, and they're moderately priced as well as comfortable.
