Hi. In the last few days, I've noticed if I scratch my head, I get a load of white flaky stuff under my nails. I fear this is dandruff, but if it is, there is *so* much of it, and I've never had dandruff before. The weird thing is, as little as 3-4 hours after I just washed my hair I still find this white crap in my hair! That lead me to think maybe it's something like leftover conditioner, that I hadn't rinsed out properly(I usually wash my hair in bath rather than shower therefore harder to rinse out?)
Please can someone tell me if they think it's dandruff, or something else?
Thanks
out good enough or if you are using gel it you could be using too
much and it may be flaking.
I reckon that you've been using the same shampoo and conditioner continuously for more than a month, right? If I'm right, that thing you said is known as "build-up". Although it isn't dandruff, over the long run, such stuff could clog your pores and inhibit hair growth, which is NOT GOOD :((
You've got 3 options now (you could do either):
1. Alternate between 2 or more different kinds of shampoos and conditioners, at least every month.
2. Purchase a clarifying shampoo (and/or conditioner), this washes off the build-up you've accumulated in your hair, do this once every fortnight, or when you feel necessary. (also known as "chelating" shampoo/conditioner).
3. Such build-ups are caused by the product "silicones", which are present in abundance in most shampoos and especially conditioners. If you feel you wouldn't want to go through the above 2 processes, purchase a "silicone-free" shampoo and conditioner. To do this, simply check the ingredients list, none of it should contain words that ends with "-cone" in them.
Happy hair washing!

I also have that happen to me occassionally, what it is, is a buildup of conditioners and or other additives that you put on/in your hair.
Another possibility, if it literally comes off your scalp under your nails when you scratch it, is that it could be psoriasis. I had that same thing for a while when I was younger (about age 13-17), but it went away by itself. Unfortunately there wasn't much that removed the problem, I just had to keep from scratching my head, and it wasn't too bad. Although if you want, you could see a dermatologist if it gets bad, and I'm sure they'd have something to help.
