I just got back from the NAMM (North American Music Manufacturers) show in Nashville, TN. I was there for 5 days.
It seemed like every other guy there had long hair. Where I live now, my hair adds to my individuality. If I had to live around that all the time, I would probably cut my hair.
On the plus side, I saw some great looking hair!
Has anyone else experienced this before?
In a word, yes. If you live where there are few or no longhairs, you develop a thick skin and get used to sticking out and getting some attention. When I went to the west coast last year, my hair was yawn, nothing remarkable, and I have to admit it--I found that mildly annoying. I wondered what I'd do in a world where all men have long hair. I quickly realized that: 1. I wouldn't change anything because I like having long hair, 2. If other guys having long hair really bothered me then maybe I have long hair for the wrong reasons, and 3. I'm in this for the long haul. What other guys do doesn't matter so the fad longhairs can come and go, and they'll mostly go from my past observations.
I feel ever so fortunate to have what I have, and even though I live on the West Coast itself, if everyone else had long hair it would not phase me one single bit. I can't imagine being without it and know that it isn't the best in the world nor will it ever be. And I only yawn when tired or ready to go to bed. Guess it's a case of ea. to their own and how that individual feels. Sorry to hear you were discouraged that there were too many guys for your eyes sporting long hair.
The problem of there being too many longhairs is easy to solve. We will lobby the legislature to implement an examination which must be passed before one can be issued a mane license and thereby be permitted to grow hair. The exam can be the dumbest ten questions we get over and over here on the board. [wink]

Then we can have a waiting list as only so many license's can be granted.

If anything, seeing that kind of abundance of men with long hair would only make me want to keep growing it longer and longer.
I love going to music events and seeing how every other guy there has long hair. I personally never feel the desire to cut it from being around other longhairs. I like having long hair because it suites me and I like how it looks/feels, not for the reason to stand out in a crowd.

Being around a big group of long hairs will make me want to grow out my hair even more, the opposite of what you said.
Regardless
My MySpace - feel free to add me as a friend
yeah if anything that would make me feel comfortable, it would give me no desire to cut it
I don't grow it to be different from everyone I just grow it because I want it and like it
When I went to Wacken damn near every person had long hair.
Yupp that's very true and it's also true for alot of the European metal festivals. Shame I didn't know you were going to Wacken last year.
Cheers,

I was planning on going to this year's but the line-up didn't look good enough to make the trek across the Atlantic. Although I did make a nice profit off selling my ticket.
Here in Brazil everyone discriminates against long haired men,so it is impossible for you to get into a job or college without having to shave your hair off. What a sad reality...
Well I certainly don't feel discouraged with my longhair. I live in a smaller town east of Seattle. I have never had a comment at work and in my world of marketing, graphics and web design there are alot of different personalities and lots of different types of people most of which is really cool. AND there are quite a number of longhairs too. I have noticed in Seattle there are plenty and I feel at home with that. I would agree with you in that, for me and most of us here on the board and people not on the board with longhair, it's an expression of who we are and our individuality. So here we are a big happy longhaired group with a big thing in common. We are all free thinking, longhaired, free spirited indivuals who except each other for who we are. Not a bad thing at all.
