Hi I made a post a few posts down I'm 21 and im starting to thin, to look at me you wouldnt really think so, but I can tell, I dont have any visible bald spots yet but Iam thinning, so should I maybe start propecia?
has anyone used it? if so did it work? would u recommend me starting using it at an early age as 21?
If you have just started thinning, and there are no visible signs of baldness, I wouldn't start Propecia. You may want to start with a topical solution such as Rogaine, or another brand that contains minoxidil. These solutions very often halt the progression of thinning, and *may* actually regrow some of the hair you have lost already, especially since the thinning process has begun so recently. You should be *sure* you are thinning, and it's not just in your own mind. You will have to use minoxidil for the rest of your life once you sart, since the hair will fall out if you stop applying the solution to your scalp. Think of the cost over the years! It will be a very expensive treatment.
I have been on propecia for about 3 years and it did check the thinning at the crown and it checked the hairline recession in front, but if you elect to go this route it is costly - ~$50.00 / month. Have heard that it is possible to get proscar in 5 mg. doses cheaper and cut up the pills into fifths but haven't tried that.
The only side effect I have experienced from it is it did noticeably reduce growth of chest hair, but I think everyone's milage would vary in that respect.
