Hey everyone! I haven't posted in so long that the server doesn't even recognize my IP address. I've been busy with school and what not, but still lurk whenever I have free time. Everyone's hair is looking great!
As of yesterday, I can finally say my hair woes are over. After growing my ugly disaster of a haircut out for nine months, and watching it became increasingly uneven, fall out, and mutate into one of the sorriest, ugliest excuses of "long hair" that I'd ever seen, it was actually fixed, and I can resume growing it out in peace.
As a refresher, here's how my hair used to look.
There were so many layers that grew because of the original cut, and the idiot that cut my hair razored into the right side way too much. It grew, but it was so thin that I'd lose waaayyy more hair than I normally would from the right side - it had no sense of strength or body whatsoever. Recently, it was hanging out in all directions, and it was an extremely uncomfortable feeling to have different amounts of hair protruding from different parts of my head, and also covering different parts of my neck.
My original plan was to wait until I got back to America and get it evened out/delayered from a stylist that I knew and trusted, but it became increasingly evident that the longer I waited, the more I'd have to cut off if I ever wanted it even again. For the record, I've been studying abroad in Japan since March, and didn't think I'd have the Japanese skills to explain what I wanted in a haircut situation, considering what a difficult situation it is for us aspiring longhairs.
However, I was happy to find out that I was able to explain what happened, what I wanted, and what I didn't want, almost entirely in Japanese! My stylist luckily spoke some English, and told me he had been cutting hair for over ten years and studied in Tokyo and Japan.
Basically I told the stylist that I was really terrified of cutting my hair on account of what happened, that it was really uneven, my main concern was that I wanted it cut in a way that was even so I could grow my hair out comfortably, that I didn't like any layers and wanted my current layers cut off, and that he should take his time just as he would with a woman with long hair. He happily replied "Wakarimashta" (I understand) and went to work.
Annnddd here are the results!
It appears a tad shorter, but if I recall, there's pretty much a consensus against layers/thinning shears here at the MLHH - it was cut up to the thickest parts and all layers removed, so it now has much more strength, body, and looks like an actual hairstyle. Furthermore, I explained to the stylist I wasn't planning on cutting it for a year, so I wanted it cut in a shape that would grow out nicely. Overall, it was one of the best haircut experiences of my life. I didn't lose any actual length, considering I'm not planning for a layered cut in the future, and this had to be done at some point.
I'm really pleased with my hair for the first time in nine months, and am even more excited to see how it looks in the upcoming months! Thanks to everyone at the MLHH!
I am so happy for you that all ended up this way. Whoever gave you that haircut MUST be a genius and it looks fabulous beyond all belief now.
Your hair when longer is going to be so sensational. (As if it isn't in that catagory already.)
Best of luck to you in the months ahead of just letting the hair grow and do its own thing and many thanks for your very kind words about this board.
Damn, Tim! Absolutely awesome haircut experience. Glad to hear it went so well, as the results are wonderful. You will definitely have a great head of hair as it gets longer (not that you don't now). Keep it growing and looking forward to your updates! =)

Hi Tim. Good to hear from you again, and welcome back to the board. Remember your last posting?
Welcome back from Japan, and your hair looks fine now. I actually like your hair. It would be better if you can stay away from scissors. My hair, as of now, it just starting to touch my shoulders, and it is wavy. I hot gotten a trim back in February to look good for my cousin's wedding, and I regret it now. Plus, having wavy hair means when my hair grows out, it simply adds to the waviness, making my hair not seem to grow out at all, and it seemed that way for up to two months after the trim. I am glad you finally like your hair.
Anyway, when or if you go back to Japan, jsut don't get a haircut. Have you seen any pictures of me or what I look like?

Your hair looks fine. And if YOU are happy then it is a success. But honestly I don't see much of a difference in those pic's. Coulda been taken on the same day as far as I can tell.
Hi Tim,
I am delighted that your latest cut went so well, and that you really found someone who knew what they were doing! Your hair looks great now, and the journey should be an easy one from now on.
Keep it growing,
David
Hi Tim!What a great story with what looks like a very happy ending:)I do remember your posts from a while ago and that you were very unhappy about a cut from a butcher stylist.I'm so happy you found a competent stylist in Japan who was able to do a nice job on your hair and basically set it up for a long period of growth in the future.I'm certain a year from now you will be amazed at how well your hair has grown out.Your last picture just says it all so be proud that you stuck it out as you have great hair for growing out very long.
Also sounds like you are having a great time in Japan and I hope your studies are going well. Thanks so much for remembering all of us here at mlhh as we are rooting for you:)Be well my friend and I'll be looking forward to future posts from you.

Tim,
I remember reading your initial post some months ago and I'm very glad for you that your bad hair cut experience is in the past. Your new cut definitely looks great; your hair looks much thicker and it can only get better from here!
Best of luck and keep it growing!

Your Japanese stylist certainly has done an awesome job, your hair looks superb, now it's just wait till it gets long.Good luck :).
Congratulations, tim, on having found such a stylist as could repair your self-image surrounding your hair after that last haircut. You have such nice hair to begin with; it is great that you are growing it out and even more so now that you can do so with confidence! The look of your hair is quite fun and well-styled. Keep up the good work.
All the best for your hair-growing adventure.

There are times when a trim is a beneficial thing and in your case it looks as though you found a good stylist who knows their shit.
Now your poised for a long period of growing without too many issues. Not to say the awkward stage won't be a pain but it will be a little easier.
Nice update and hope the studies are going well in Japan.
