Hey everyone, hope you are all well.
Lately my scalp has been getting itchy, especially where I part my hair. I wash it every 4 days with shampoo on the scalp only and then conditioner on the ends only. On the third day after washing, I will wake up with a bit of itchiness and throughout the day it comes and goes. On the fourth day it gets worse so I wash it again. I don't brush my hair, but I do comb it briefly multiple times per day with a plastic wide-tooth comb.
I have tried changing where I part my hair from the middle to the side, but it still itches wherever I part it. What is causing the itchiness? Is washing every 3 days the only way to fix this problem? If I begin brushing it, will that help my scalp from looking a bit too greasy and getting itchy?
Cheers,
Peter
Peter, I had the same problem just trying to go two days in between washes. I guess some of our scalps are just more sensitive than others. My hair woouldn't look dirty or greasy, but my scalp would itch bad. I now just wash and condition every day. I have no choice. I am sure someone else may give you some better advice than this, but for me washing and conditioning daily has been the only way to prevent itching. Brian
Hi Peter,
Is there any flaking with your itching? It could be something like psoriasis or seborraic dermatitis, so it may be worth talking to your doctor or pharmacist. Don't let them give you the "cut your hair schtick" - I have psoriasis in my scalp and have managed to get it under control, even under retreat. T-Gel is a good shampoo in this case (or pharmacy equivalent - CVS for example) if a little expensive.
Either that, or if you can get hold of a good Tea Tree shampoo/conditioner, this is supposed to be quite helpful.

Steve B
Thanks for your responses!
There is a small bit of flaking with my itching, but not a lot. I will try out the Tea Tree shampoo, thanks!
Cheers,
Peter
Paul Mitchell do a good (if expensive) Tea Tree and Mint shampoo that has a nice cooling effect when you leave it on for a few minutes...
All the best,
