I've let may hair grow for the last 6 months. However, it seems the hair on the sides of my head is growing faster and at a greater volume than that on the top. Does that mean I'm getting bald? if not what are some tips to stimulate growth(in volume and lenght) ? It is not a symmetrical growth.
Relax!
You're just entering the awkward stage, probably you're already in it. Everyone who grows their hair from a short haircut has to go trough the awkward stage (or most people, it depends on the hair type). It gets even worse if your hair is wavy. My hair is wavy and I had a dificult awkward stage, but once you've gone trough it it's wonderfull...
Your hair grows at the same rate, but because the strands are positioned in diferent heights on your head, the hair below your ears will appear longer than the hair at the top, and it will also tend to curl, tending to also look thicker. This produces an optical effect that is very bothersome, but you just have to love your hair no matter what and let it grow. When it reaches a longer lenght, you can trim it and make it look even.
You don't need to concern about balding unless you notice way too much shedding and thin hair at the top (meaning you start seeing your scalp too much trough the hair).
As you haven't posted a picture, I assume that you are simply in the awkward stage. If that's the case, then congratulations, you're just starting your pre-long hair phase =)
Stick to it and good luck!
Being 14, I'm not going bald as many members of this board assured me. But I can see onto my scalp above my forehead. It's hard to explain, but its like my hair's in ridges and there's massive space in between. It looks fine if I comb it, but I'm getting worried because my hair wasn't always like this. Any light you shed on this?
Puberty. There is some recession at the hairline with puberty but it's normal. It happened to us all.

No I don't think that has anything to do with you going bald. If you chat to a bunch of the other guys on the board you will find that it is fairly common. In the recent past there have been many posts similar to yours. None of those guys are going bald : )
