...about this board is the international character it has. Stas' update post where he mentioned being from Israel got me thinking about it. To me one of the coolest things about MLHH (and the internet as a whole, for that matter) is the ability to casually chat with people from all over the globe.
Think about it. Before the internet, would you casually drop a note in the mail just to say hello to somebody on the far side of the planet?
One of my favorite things about port visits when I was in the Navy was the chance to get a little glimpse of another culture. Places like this still give me that chance, in a way, to see things from another's perspective.
Well, that's my 2 [insert local money unit]'s worth...
Jim
That's what I've always liked about the board as well. It is extremely cool to be able to talk with folks from all around the globe, and we are all united in our cause -- long locks! To think if the rest of the world at large got along like we did here. Here we can have someone from Israel posting right beside someone from Persia (sorry, I was just watching the news for a minute while ago.) But I get your point. How else would I get to interact with people all the way from Scandinavia to Argentina without the internet.

Hey Jim this is a very cool thread you started.I too am amazed by the reach the internet has provided us average joes to be able to communicate with people all over the world. Before that what did you have besides snail mail or the phone. And then who would you write to or call if you didn't have an intended recipient. With the net you can go to web boards such as this one dedicated to a single cause and then you make friends with people of common interests. One thing that does come to mind that some may consider being close to internet before it actually became available would be Ham Radio. In my family it was a big hobby as we had several licensed operators. However you still had to get a radio license so it wasn't all that easy to get on the air. Then you had to create a base station to broadcast out of so it was a bit of work.
Thanks again Jim for the interesting topic as I'm sure others will have more to add.Take care my friend.

My Dad was a very avid Ham Radio Operator, but I never took to it. When he passed away, I found his CQ cards (100's of them) from around the world, all neatly filed by country. I am active on several Internet forums on various different interests....and yes it is fascinating to talk to folks from faraway and interesting parts of the world.
Good topic !
Walter
Well that's an interesting post. Speaking of which, I do have a few friends overseas that I talk to online.
Regardless
My MySpace - feel free to add me as a friend
The majority of you do seem to be in America though :P joke
Dat's Amarika now i tink.
Jim, Armchair traveling is a bit more personal these days isn't it! I feel like I have personal friends from Brazil, England Germany, France, California, Canada and Scandinavia as well as other spots around the globe. Have met some of these people and hope to meet many more someday. Too cool!

Like me, for example. By the way let me post a pic of my city. São Paulo. This is Paulista Avenue on friday noon. I hope you like it. Peace...
Wait a min!you're from Sao Paulo!?That's exatly where I live, and my house is not far from the Paulista Avenue! Now in Portuguese:Eita,Walter,c nunca posto falando onde voce morava, entao eu realmente nao tinha a minima ideia de onde seria isso.Voce mora na Av.Paulista?Flowz.
That's what I love about this board too. I finally for the first time in my life feel supported for being who I really am. I thank everyone here once again for being there from me.
Yours Truly,
Eric
Excellent thread Jim! I think that reaching out and seeing that you're not alone in the desire to have long hair is way cool. Seeing the same desire in others in all lands makes the world seem tiny.

An interesting topic to bring and just shows that we are an international community and we do have things in common and where ever you are on the planet there is a place for support.
As we have seen from the gatherings and meet-ups our community is very much alive and very positive about longhair. So all you negative "oh we should have short hair" go and read another forum!
Cheers,
John.B
I completely agree -- I think the international aspect is ***Wonderful***
