Yes... I have heard that Gelitin does grow hair. Currently I am on the vitamin kick. Does anyone have any more info on the gelitin case? This sounds too cool to be true. Is there any conclusive evidance that our fave desert makes your hair grow longer? Please I am at the flip stage in my hair growth it drives me nuts, But right now if I wear at turtle neck my mom cant tell me from my twin sister from behind. *lol*
JELLO anyone???
Yep, Jello (actually - gelatin) has long been known to help strengthen nails. It is a good source of protein, so it also helps hair growth (somewhat related to nails). The best pure gelatin (I forget the brand name) is made from extracting protein from the bones (primarily hooves, if I can trust my memory) of a certain breed of sheep in France.
However, the best stuff has no flavor, so just stick with your fav color of Jello - it should actually help a little. LOL
C'ya...
I believe the brand is Knox brand gelatin. I can remember my mother taking it for nail breakage back in the 50's. It has been around forever. It comes in capsules I believe. 2-4 per day should be the correct amount to take- let all of us know if it works...JL
I make finger jello all the time. Use 2-3 packets of Knox gelatin with each box of Jello and use 1-2 cups LESS water than recommended.
This gives you some seriously stiff finger jello! And it gets lots of extra gelatin in you while tasting good. Also an important jsource of food for bachelors like me who just don't find time to cook big meals for themselves (grab it and go).
This is an old wive's tale that has no foundation in fact. Here's an excerpt that explains it (though geared towards nails):
"Eating Jell-O (gelatin is the basic ingredient) or unflavored gelatin does not strengthens nails. Nails are composed of protein with a high sulfur content. All protein you eat is broken down and circulates in your body protein pool (as amino acids) that is used to build and repair muscles, organs and other protein structures like hair and nails. (By the way, excess protein is stored as body fat.)"

As long as you get adequate protein in your diet, your hair will be well nourised.
Excess protean is eleminated by the body if it isnt digested. only shugars and fats are stored. Look up Atkins Diet.
Or talk to your Dr...
Gelitain DOES grow nails and hair It has been proven, your hair and nails are NOT made of protean, they are made of keritin. The main ingrediant in gelitin is Keritin.
I didnt spend all this time researching Gelitin, talking to Dr's, and hair dressers to be told other wize....
And if you dont beleave me look at all the people who have lost over 150 pounds and have kept it off from the all PROTEAN Atkins diet.
And all the long haired happy soals who swear by Jello.
Thank you VERY much.
Well actually, the body can take any nutrient and store it as fat. The liver has many complicated processes by which it can convert just about anything to just about anything needed. So basically, if you eat too much protein and not enough of anything else, your body will use the protein for energy, store some as fat, and eliminate some as well. Not to say that the atkins diet doesn't work; I'm just explaining what the body is capable of since there seem to be some misconceptions. I'm taking a biology course in school right now, and this is the section we just finished studying. Also, keratin is a protein. The body digests proteins into amino acids which are the building blocks for just about every structure in your body. These amino acids are reassembled to produce many different things, one of them being keratin. So eating a lot of gelatin or protein or whatever won't make much of a difference unless you're not already getting enough. The body will only use so much before it either stores away or eliminates the rest (an issue of metabolism really). Hope this clears up some questions.
If you really want to get into protein intake look into Spirulina (capsules). This is made from seaweed and is actually classified as a food and not a supplement. The body only absorbs about 40% of red meat protein but will absorb about 80% of Spirulina protein.
Spirulina was developed as a way to feed starving people in 3rd world countries. There are other benefits from using this stuff too.
Protein? Fat? Why do so many lose weight on protein diet?
Isnt hair and nail made of Fiber Kerotein?
Amadeo
After many years of eating Jello I can testify it doesn't make
hair grow any faster.
