Hi guys,
Last week is was prescribed beta blockers (proprananol is what its called I think) by my doctor for help with my anxiety. They are working very well for my anxiety, however, during my talk with the doctor she told me I may experience dizziness. As she has told me, I am feeling very dizzy at times, quite weak, tierd and sometimes a bit sick - it's quite rubbish. I know these are known and common side effects, so I'm not worried, but I was wondering if anyone by chance knows any way of countering the dizziness caused by taking these drugs.
Take care
Neil
My first reply was censored. I use cannabis for the same reasons.
I've always been told that in the big scheme of things cannabis can exacerbate symptoms of anxiety, so I steer clear of the stuff - I'm not a smoker anyway.
Cannabis is not for everyone. But the choice is. I use it for pain, nausea and PTSD so I feel you are getting bad info.
Hi Neil!
My english language is not good ... ...
But, please take no BETA-blockers ... ...! Only if your blood pressure is to high [much]. And then you must buy a blood pressure apparatus ... ...!
Best wishes - Bernd
I have no idea how to counter side effects on the medication you are taking. Talk to your doctor about the side effects on medication. Yes, medication have side effects that you have to be aware of. It is extremely important to follow your doctor's directions on medication no matter what.
By the way, I am glad I am currently not using medication.
Regardless
My MySpace - feel free to add me as a friend
You could look into "Dramamine", it's sold over the counter and helped my Grandmother when she got dizzy. I am NOT a doctor or know much about any meds. See what your Dop says.
All the best to U!

This is mainly a class of drugs taken by those who have had a heart attack. Recent testing has shown they are not near as good as once thought for hypertension. The one you are taking is one of the earlier drugs on the market.
Here is some good basic info.

Hey Neil. I've been taking a beta blocker for several years (metaprolol). Beta blockers act by slowing the heart and making it work more efficiently. If your blood pressure gets too low, you may experience dizziness.
Your body is not used to the slower beating of the heart. Hence, you may be tired until your body adjusts. Keep a close eye on your blood pressure. Once again, if side affects become too bothersome, talk to your doctor. There are several prescriptions on the market.
I hope your anxieties stay under control. There are several depression and anxiety medications on the market. Unfortunately, most of these have side effects also. BTW, great hair!

Neil: I take Proprananol for BET (Benign Essential Tremor) in my hands...I also have moderately high blood pressure so a double benefit. I had some dizziness after starting but it subsided after a few weeks. I take my dose (40mg) each morning. Hope this info helps.
Thank you for your replys guys. Since I have only been on these drugs for a week or so I think I'll leave it a week or so longer to see if I need time to adjust to these side effects. They currently aren't too dramatic, just rather inconvientient when I need to get something done : P
I'll let you know how I get on,
Thanks again,
Neil
i don't know what type of anxiety you have, but i have suffered with it pretty much my whole life. because i adhere to a very natural lifestyle, i didn't want any prescription medication to control it. i finally found a homeopathic doctor who ran a battery of tests on me and discovered my body was severly short of magnessium. for over two years now i have taken a high dose of a special blend of magnessium (fura-mag) and have only had a few light panic attacks in that time. there are no side affects.
i know the fura-mag works because i had gotten to the point of regularly waking up during the night screaming, or running out of stores, or pulling off the road during heavy traffic. i don't know if this interest you at all, but i figured i would share. i know that to me, the thought of chemically altering my brain freaks me out more than anything. the fact that i can replace a mineral and have better affects than people i know on other drugs is quite awesome.
good luck to you!
Hey Nic,
I agree with you that I wanted as little "chemical intervention" as possible. I have actually tried homeopathy before. However, I found it to not be as effective as it has been for you - which I thought was a shame, because I really wanted it to be. As it goes these beta blockers are actually doing their job quite well, I am able to feel relatively comfortable in places I was not before, just the side effects can hit quite hard from time to time. I think I am slowly getting used to them though. Myself and my doctor have come to the decision that these drugs will only be a very temporary measure, so hopefully within six months or so, I shouldn't be on any drugs at all : )
Thanks for sharing your idea : )
Neil
My doc has me on several medications for the heart and liver, most which have several side effect including dizziness and nause; I smoke a half a joint and I'm fine.
