Thought it might be fun to share our victories despite how long our present length was or how long we have been growing our hair. Kinda think of it this way: Anything over an inch would never qualify one in the "Buzz-Cut" catagory.
"Average" length of hairs currently being shed daily.
I'll start. 25."
Justin, Yes a fun thread indeed. Mine are 30".
peace, jonalbear
Mine are on average about 11 inches, although I get a few that are 10.5" and others that are 12".
Cheers,
Peter
I swear to God I really don't shed much if any hair at all, even when I am washing my hair. I must have really strong roots. On my pillow I'll find perhaps a hair or two every few nights, I sweep my floors every day or two days and at the end notice about a tiny bundle of strands that may either be my own or my mother's(she has a layered above the shoulders haircut but she has had it to her center back not too long ago) and when I wash my hair perhaps no more than ten hairs come loose in my washing. I have more hairs that are accidently torn off my head when it gets caught and pulled off in seats or in doorways than those that are naturally shed out. I would estimate that no more than say 15 strands are shed from my head in one day.
Oops I misunderstood the actual topic of this thread!
Again, I shed no more than 15 strands in one day. They range from 18 inches to 29-30 inches in length. This is because my hair is cut in graduated layers that form 3 distinct lengths within my mane and as you can see from my avatar I have side-swept bangs. I shed hairs of all sorts of lengths from 4 inches which are my bangs to the full 30 inches which are my longest lengths.
My hair that comes out of my head averages around a foot. I tend to shead a lot of hairs, but my hair grows fast.
Regardless
My MySpace - feel free to add me as a friend
I don't know what my average is. A while ago I reached a milestone: 36 inches. That's 3 feet, so it's a milestone. It's roughly 1 meter for those on the metric system. This hair was not average looking though, so that's why I measured it. Also, that length was stretched out against a tape measure. My hair naturally waves, and I suspect that one was a "champion". Because of that, you don't see hair hanging 3 feet from the back of my neck down.
I think it's safe to say my average is somewhere in the 2-3 foot range though. How's that for precision?
I find it a bit of a mystery as to why my average "shed-length" is 25" condidering my height at 6' with my overall hair being below belt length. Scott to the rescue to crack this mystery?

I'm not Scott, but I'll try to answer your question anyhow. Perhaps your hair naturally grows in layers. The hairs that you happen to have shedding right now may only have a terminal length of 25 inches. However, you clearly also must have hairs(very likely located at the nape of your neck and/or the occipital point of your head) that are longer than 25 inches and won't become terminal until they are close to 3 feet or even more. Long story short, perhaps your longest hairs haven't shed yet and only the hairs that have a shorter terminal length are shedding.
Hey Justin thats a great pic!Man you have fabulous hair and might I add quite thick too.I guess you can afford to lose a few strands as you wouldn't even miss them. However It would be preferable to not lose any if I had my way.Hey great talking to you BTW:)Take care my friend.

Are they shed hairs or broken ones? A nice unbroken hair comes to a tapered tip.
---------------------------------------------------------------
AFAIK, all or nearly all of my hairs have damaged tips. My hair is fine and delicate and breaks easily. My average unbroken (except for the very tip) shed strand length is maybe 36". The longest measured one is 45 1/4". The longest measured grey hair strand is 44 3/4". Also you can see how much I have shed in about 5 years. (See photo.)
I also keep very careful records on just how much I shed. I weigh it since counting hairs one by one is a real pain in the tukus. I estimate that 80% is recoverable due to keeping it in a segmented tail. I will stop eating a certain food if I see excess shedding. Foods with trans fats cause me to have profuse shedding. I won't eat those any more, or eat very little of them.

Good thread Justin, gee I'll have to go and look.........

...........Ok, I'm back. I guess if I measure the longer ones only and not the shorties, the longer ones average 13 inches with the longest at 14 inches. I'm happest when they are the longer ones. It means they had a good long life on display. When I see shorties, I think of a life cut short (really, no pun inteaded!) I'm not sure if that makes any sense because ultimately I don't want see any! But if long is replaced by short then I want those shorties to long someday.
Btw, I feel like a hair baby compared to you guys.
Have a good day!
Bruce
10 inches.
10 inches..........I sooooooo wasn't thinking about hair when I read that! HAHAHA!
I really don't shed that much, but from what I've seen, probably around 9 - 11 inches.
My shed mane strands are all over the place. I get them as short as two inches and as long as twenty. The distribution over that range appears to be quite uniform, so no shed strand is "typical".
Most of my shed beard strands range between eight and ten inches, so my beard does have a typical length for sheddings.
My beard hairs are very coarse and my mane hairs are very fine, so I have no trouble telling which are which.

Measured one last week at 16"
Why have I never thought to do this? ;) I have no shortage of shed hair around the apartment. They are easy to find, too easy, but not so easy to measure. However, the strands that I did measure were between 9 and 11 inches in length. Actually that seems a bit disappointing considering I've been growing for well over two years now. And I've been noticing more gray hairs lately. That's life!

My most common shed length is about 12 to 16 inches.
Kevin
About 12"

Well... pulled 3 hairs out of my hair brush this afternoon and the average is 21". Not real sure about the average number of shed hairs per day but I figured taking them from the brush might work good.
--Rick
About 24" here.
Longest was about 26"
I'd say at my current lenth, around 14-15". Unfortunately I see many of these per day...

Great topic Justin.
The last time I measured a hair it as about 20".
Cheers,

Hi Justin,
Admittedly, I haven't measured my shed hairs lately, since I didn't have a ruler handy at the time when I noticed some long ones. They were possibly 15 inches or a bit longer, but that is only a guess. I will try to make an effort to measure one next time I notice a long one. (I don't seem to shed a whole lot of hairs)
Take care,
David
Average is about 12 in.
Longest was abut 16.5 in.
