Got myself a job working a lab job doing biology/chemistry stuff. No comments on my hair. No requesting it gets cut off. Decent pay rate to be able to keep on living the good life. Woot.
I did get a slight trim, an inch or so at most on some individual hairs but mostly to even up the layers (front hair vs back hair). Went to the salon at a beauty school. Firstly, it was amazing treatment because the people really care...maybe because they are graded. Secondly, the person was really careful about length and my happiness...again because they were most likely graded. It was a bit scary but my girlfriend kept an eye on things.
and i would bet your theory is correct - they probably do pay more attention when they are being graded. but thankfully you were happy!
Could also be a just-learned-it enthusiasm. I'm sure right out of school for any career, there will be rampant enthusiasm and focus and desire to get it right...perhaps the ennui of the job has not reached the hair person yet...
Congratulations David! Good deal!

Greetings Antesee, congrats on your new job...and good news that you will not have to cut your hair. Woohoo!
Cheers,
Max
Congrads on the job and being able to keep the hair.
Frank
Congratulations on your new job and you also get to keep my hair. As for me, I want to design games and computer programs, and design graphics as well. If anyone, including my boss, tells me to cut my hair completely (not just trim), I will NOT do it. Anyway, good luck with your career.

Congratulations on the new job. I know you are happy to be making some money after so long in school! I doubt in the scientific field you will encounter much resistance to long hair. I'm all the time watching those science shows on Dsicovery Channel and other such, and at least a third of the guys on them seem to have some form of long hair. They had a guy on a geology show that worked for the USGS who had past waist length dreadlocks talking about some volcano in Hawaii.
I hope you are well. I am sure you are busy, but you should really post more. We miss you. Hope your GF is well too.

The only hair restriction I have ever really seen in the sciences is one of safety which usually means hair neatly tied back and not left to dip in the beakers...that being said, I have seen long hair on scientists of both genders and no one complaining.
Congratulations, and good luck!!
