Hey all, I've been lurking occasionally for a while now. I wanted to ask your opinions on the huge discrepancy between the left and right sides of my hair. FYI, I shampoo+condition about twice a week. I've tried no-poo but it smelled excessively, even at three inches shorter than it is now. I've also tried air drying vs. cool-air blowdrying. I've never permitted hot air near my head.
The left side curls seemingly at random and annoys me to no end, sticking out to the sides, looking like an uneven mess, etc. (a photo of this side is attached). The right side curls more-or-less neatly at about where you'd expect it to. Actually, my hair never looks exactly the same from one wash to the next, but this is the general trend. The chief determinant of my hair's curliness seems to be the position/style that I leave it in to dry. The point is I want to tame my unruly left side.
Thanks for reading :)
Here's the right side.
Greeting and welcome to you !!
You are off to a great start and your hair looks very healthy. Curly-heads have to take a little longer and learn a bit of patience while going through the awkward stage.....Use a little product (gel, spray...what ever you are comfortable with...)to control the flips and frizzies for now, but with time and length the weight of your hair will even things out.
Hang in there !!

OK, I'll continue to hang and have faith that it will eventually calm down enough. Although you wouldn't guess from my photos, I can actually put my bangs in my mouth now, but apparently that's not long enough. Thanks for the reply.
Dear Friend,
Both sides look great to me. Speaking as a physiological psychologist, if we were totally symertrical, we would not be able to tell our right hand from your left.
Your hair looks great.
Read the previous posts and realize how fortunate you are.
Cal.
It looks good and certainly suits you.
Is the problem that curl which hands down below your right ear?
That looks a bit like one from you last cut which was left longer and now exaggerates its appearance.
Maybe there is a case for that one alone (NO don't be tempted to do others) to be trimmed slightly to get it in lone with the rest. I don;t normally suggest scissors go anywhere near hair but whilst growing out there can be some legacy hairs which need cutting just once.
Then destroy your scissors and certainly don't go to a stylist who will want to mess about more.

Hi Sylvan,
First of all, welcome to the hyperboard, and I am glad that you decided to de-lrk and share your progress. Personally, I think you hair looks great, and it is healthy amd full of shine. You just happen to have some natural waves in your hair, and those will tend to smooth out as your hair gets longer.
Keep it growing,
David
Welcome to the forum!
I have noticed the exact same thing with my hair, I'm at shoulder length and my left side is very curly/wavey and my right is just wavey. I thinks it's odd too but I don't know what we can really do about it (must be in the genes) but let it go and grow. I do tend to use a bit more Jojoba Oil on the left side to tame it down. Growing your hair out can be an adventure, you never know what the next months growth may bring.
Keep it growing!
Frank
Welcome to the board, it's great you've dicided to delurk.
While your in the akward stage especialy if your hair is wavy or curly it can be messy. Just wait for it to grow longer and this will be over as the added weight will relax it.
About the different sides, I don't know just let it grow and see how it will become.
Looks like perfectly normal awkward-stage wavy hair to me. I have wavy hair too, and it definitley did its own thing and behaves a little differently each day/wash until it got longer. Just hang in there and accept the variation. It'll sort itself out into a really great length of hair.

Welcome Sylvan Hart, I'm glad you decided to delurk. You have nice condition hair which will be awesome long. The left and right will even out as your hair gets longer. I suspect that you may tend to sleep on one side more than the other (most of us do) and that's why the difference.
