I needed a change. It's still what I would consider long, as it's just below my chin, all one length. No regrets about doing so, as I like this style even more than the longer length. Seems I have more volume now, but can still tie it back and feel it brushing against my neck.
That said, I still plan to hang around the site and post, as I may grow it out from this length... I haven't decided yet. Not sure about my site, though. I'll process it for a few days and make up my mind (and also based on everyone's input here) as to what to do with it.
Thank you all for your support over these past couple years. This place is really special to me. You guys are great! =)

Well at least you did not completely cut your hair off. Your hair now appears similar to length to mine. Speaking of which, my 19th month update on my hair growth is posted a little down the board. Do take a look. Maybe you have cut away the damaged ends and I would like to see you grow out your hair once more. I like your old hair style as well.

I did see your update, and you're coming along quite nicely! Thanks for the post, Regardless.
-James
Thanks James for my statement. Don't miss my August update next month. Your hair still looks nice, by the way.

Hi James
Well after reading your subject line I admit to being shocked. However after viewing your current pic I'd have to say your hair is still long.I suppose we all have to experiment with length and at some point decide where we want to be.So obviously it looks like maybe you like it long but within limits.I don't blame you at all as extreme longhair just isn't for everyone and I respect you for giving longhair a try.I do hope you continue posting here as you are a bright spot on this board and there is no reason to depart.I always love reading your posts and checking out your fantastic pictures. Thanks for being a part of mlhh and please do keep the faith my friend.Catch you later James:)
Mark
Hey Mark,
I definitely still plan to post here, as I do have some nice adventures planned in the not-too-distant future. ;) I'll probably still do monthly updates if I grow it out from here (which, knowing myself, I likely will). At any rate, thanks for the comments. Hope you're doing well. =)
-James
Oi Jaime,
I really like this new style a lot. It really suits you and I am glad you are happy with it. You have enough length to still do different styles with the convenience that comes with the smaller length. You're a nice enough looking guy that could probably make any style look good.
I don't see why you wouldn't hang around the site and post; you still have what I would call "longish to long" hair. The purists may argue with my definition, but I'm not asking for definitial-permission either.
I hope your summer is still going well and good luck in about two to three weeks when again school starts back up.
MB
Thanks, Matt. My summer is going well, for the most part. It's been extremely warm here (though admittedly not as hot and humid as Atlanta), and that did factor into this change. That said, I don't plan on living someplace as hot next summer after graduation. ;) Hope all is well for you!
-James
Hey James:
A) you're correct; you're still INDEED one of us and a true longhair.
B) I did the SAME thing in January and am VERY happy I did as I lost several inches of damaged hair and have taken better care of it since...not to mention I got to sport a new look for a while. It's growing back very fast.
C) Your new haircut looks fantastic on you! It will come back in no time if you should decide not to keep it at that length.
Thanks for sharing and I'm glad to hear you're happy with your new look.
-Phil
Thanks, Phil. Now that it is all one length, it's very possible that I'll let it grow again. Only time will tell... Anyways, thanks again, and your hair is looking great, too! =)
-James
While you seem to have shorter hair, James, it is really only hanging at the length mine appears, given my hair's tendency to curl. It took you getting a haircut to appear to have hair my length and I've been growing it longer. No fair!
Seriously, though, your hair looks good and if you are happy with the length, then I am happy for you too.
All the best to you.
Shawn (Mr.Crow)
Hey Shawn, I hadn't thought about it, but I guess you're right. Even so, you certainly have something to be VERY proud of, as a lot of people aren't blessed with those kinds of curls. Thank you for the comments, and I hope you are doing well. =)
-James
Much to the dismay of many of the people on this board, I prefer the shorter long-hair look. I'm a fan of the chin-shoulder length, and really like the new cut.
Eric H.
Thanks, Eric. I appreciate it. Keep it growing (because I sure as hell didn't)! =D
-James
....my hair is still not as long as where you "Cxx" (tsk, tsk) yours back to ! HA!
Looks great and still a long hair. Keep Kool for the rest of the summer.
Walter
Thanks, Walter! Even so, you do have a very nice head of hair, no doubt. Thanks for the comments, and I'll try to stay cool. =)
-James
Hey James, I like that length on you too and it is all one length which is great. And you are happy with it and that's the main thing. Good for you. Do stay on the board, you are still a longhair...I always enjoy your posts and pics.
Take care,
Max
Thanks, Max. I do definitely plan to stay around the board and post, no worries. Hope you're doing well! =)
-James
Hey James,
I think your hair looks great, it's what I'm aiming for! I cut mine last December very short for work/career/life reasons, I think your current length would have been a better choice for me.
MattT.
Thanks, Matt! No worries over cutting yours short, as it always grows back. Stay well, and take care. =)
-James
Hi James,
I think your latest cut looks great, and the most important thing is that YOU are happy with your hair right now.
I am glad that you are going to say with us on the hyperboard. You have been one of our most valuable members, and I cannot thank you enough for your contributions to our community.
Take care,
David
Thank you very much, David. There's no way I could leave this place, as it's been a second home to me (or third or fourth, depending on if you count school and a full-time job). Anyways, I hope you're doing well, and I'll see you around... =)
-James
I got scared for a moment. I thought that you had buzzed it all off! Luckily, you've still got a long style. It looks really good James. I'm glad that you're finally happy with your hair. Do stick around dude, You are a very valuable member and we would sure hate to see you disappear.
All the best
Thanks, Chris. I am happy with it now, and I will stick around. Hope you're doing well! =)
-James
It is still a decent long length.
People seem to get confused: 'Long hair' maintained to a comfortable length round the shoulders is long hair nonetheless and others who think length only mid back/terminal counts as long.
If we could see your ears when it is down then that would not be long hair.
You have long hair still, stay around and enjoy. We enjoy you being here.
Thanks, UK. I appreciate it! =)
-James
Still looks like long hair to me, James. And I think it looks good. You know, this time last year, after 7 years of long hair, I cut it short. Why? Because I wanted to. For me, maybe the central celebration of being a longhaired man is learning to own my own freedom about my life. Hair is just a part of that, but growing it long and living it long opens the door to that kind of freedom, if we want it, in our whole lives.
I enjoyed my hair short for about one month. I have not cut it again. Now my hair is a bit longer than yours now. I am enjoying it very much.
I am glad for you that you have chosen for yourself. Enjoy!
Bob
Thank you, Bob. That is exactly how I feel now. After all, it does always grow back, doesn't it? =)
-James
Well James you had us going and I suspect on purpose to be humouous. I would do the same. (grin) nothing like a little wind up to makes things lively.
You are still a longhair and we hope you stick around as you still have your experiences to share if you choose.
Glad you are happy with your new length.
Take Care
Kevin
Thanks, Kevin. I wouldn't have it any other way. ;) Take care!
-James
James, Your still a longhair and your happy and it looks good. The freedom to choose is at the core of being a lonhair.
Take care,
Bruce
Thanks, Bruce. Indeed, the freedom to choose is the most important thing in life (and goes quite well with my libertarian values). =D Hope all is well for you!
-James
Well James it's certainly still long, and it does look very good on you, so good on you so long as you are happy!!
Cheers Dave
Thanks, Dave. I really appreciate it. Hope all is well with you, and I look forward to your next update! =)
-James
sup man how u doin we havent been able to chat lately hope to talk u soon about your hair i like it even better now it really suits u and since u r happy with your hair who cares about the world looks great on u
Hey, thanks, Ayaz! Sorry I haven't been around much. Work and politics... ya know. =P Anyways, stay well, buddy!
-James
Hi James
I must admit, I was disappointed at the first moment when I was reading your post.
But, from you previous posts I got the impression that you are one of the biggest supporters of long hair especially for the younger guys around us. You have always been positive, supportive and understanding and very tolerant as far as I remember.
In the recent past, I can see a tendency of non-tolerance - even some kind of extremism - in certain members of the board. E.g. no trims at all, no dyeing or coloring, etc. Sometimes I am surprised that combing and brushing is still allowed.
Therefore I am very happy that you told as about your haircut and that you feel good about it. And, as the replies to your post show, many of the members support your decision. After all, you're still a longhair with a little shorter long hair :)
I hope that everyone on this board does with his hair whatever he thinks is best for him.
Good luck and be happy with your new hairstyle!
--Tom
Thanks, Tom. I think everyone needs to do what is best for him or herself, and not what everyone else thinks they need to do, if that makes sense. Tis that freedom that makes living worthwhile. =) All the best to you, and stay well!
-James
Hi James,
You scared me at first, but it's good to see your hair is still long. Whatever your will do, keep it at this lenght or grow it out again I hope your will stay at this board and keep your website.
Thanks, Vincent. I may tweak my website a bit, but it should resemble itself more or less, I haven't quite decided yet. Hope you're doing well, and keep it growing! =)
-James
You like it, that's all that matters. I still thank you for that Hair Oiling video you made a while back, I've been using Jojoba Oil every day since seeing it. It's helped my hair alot.
Thanks James!
Frank
Thanks, Frank. I'm happy to hear that I was able to help at least one person with that video! =D
-James
Frank, James: Where do I find that video? I seem to have missed it....
--Tom
It's on my site... umm... somewhere... LOL. One of my monthly pages, there's a link to the video. Probably late 2007/early 2008-ish is my guess?
-James
found it. jan 08. thx.
Hi James,
There is nothing wrong with a change (eh trimmers!) and their hair looks wonderful and at the end of they day and as long as you are happy with it that's the most important thing and it should not matter to anyone else. Your hair certainly has the volume now and I'm sure it will be easy to maintain. I say it's very positive and if others are disappointed well too bad for them.
As other people have said you always give very positive encouragement and positive advise and it's nice to know we have people liek you that take time to participate in the community.
Always a pleasure to hear from you mate.
Cheers,
John.B
Thanks, John. I appreciate every word! =D
-James
Hey, you still look great with that length, and if you're happy then it was a good decision. Besides, it's still long enough that if you want to grow it more you'll avoid most of the awkward stage annoyances.
At least you didn't go super-super short. I was envisioning a buzz cut when I read the header. :-0
Mouse
Hey Mouse... No, I'll never go back to what is often considered short hair. Still, I like it this length, and it's true that I could very easily grow it back. =)
Hope all is well!
-James
Pfiuu.
When I read the title of your post, I believed you cut it short. I would have been shocked. But, it's still long :)
About your site, you should keep it online, for those who want an example. If it don't bother you, of course.
For the need of change, I can understand. I went through hard time recently, and needed too. My hair isn't cut, but my beard cannot say the same, haha (It will regrow...)
Good bye
Vivien
Thanks, Vivien. I will most likely keep my site up, as it has been a lot of work and dedication. Sometimes a change is just needed. I hope you are doing well! =)
-James
Hey James
Most everyone likes a change now and then and even I have done so throughout my life. The ONLY time I had a regret is when I fell for a Buzz cut in 2002, otherwise I have had long hair in a variety of different ways throughout my life. What you have now is certainly not what I would consider short hair and it looks great on you. Much to be joyful and feel like chirping about.
Anybody: boy, young man, or even fossile such as myself would LOVE to have such a fine B+W artistic portrait of himself as the one you have shown us. Just wait until you are my age and look back at that one. You just won't believe.
All the best-
Justin~
Hey, thanks a lot, Justin! I know, time is going by so quickly, and it won't be long and the years will have passed. Even so, there's no sense in really thinking about it, but rather just enjoying life to the fullest. I hope you do the same (and I'm sure you do). Take care and stay well! =)
-James
James,
Okay, I'll admit when you told me you planned to trim it I was a tad... freaked. But I have to admit it does look very full at this length and over all very very good.
Not to say I'm not still a tad surprised but it suits you very well.
See you soon,
-Austin
Hehe... well, I at least told you in advance, so you knew to expect it. Ttys... and see you soon... =D
-James
Hey James. I remember when I got my hair "cut" about 6 months ago to that length. Honestly, I really like that semi-long style on people, and it looks absolutely great on you. It's perfect for the hot seasons, and it's really easy to take care of. Plus, it's incredibly easy to grow it from that length, if you decide to grow it longer again. Anyway, I'm glad that you're happy with the change, and I look forward to see where life may take you in the up-and-coming months. Take it easy.
Hey, thanks, Brandon. I do remember you getting your hair cut that length. It seems to have worked out very nicely for you. Hope all is well for you, and I look forward to your next update, too! =)
-James
Hey James! I haven't been especially active on this board lately, but i was quite surprised when i saw that message on your MSN that you've cut your hair, but then when i came here and saw the new style it was quite a relief because you still have long hair and that style sure suits you:)
And now if you ever decide to grow it out again it will most likely be easier this time around since it's all one length.
Take care!
Hey, thanks, Simon! I noticed that you haven't been posting much lately. I hope you're doing well, buddy. Take care! =)
-James
Hi James
That answers my question at MySpace - you decided to have a trim! I think you should keep the website - even if you don't update it, just keep it as a legacy, a bit like an electronic journal, even just for all the work you have put into it if nothing else. I thought about closing my website down but in the end decided to keep it because of the work I put into it. I just haven't bothered to update it for about a year now. It's just a legacy of what was, but no longer is, if you will.
See you!
RM
Hey RM! Sorry about not responding through Myspace. I got your message, but I didn't have time to reply, as we were just about to leave and run some errands. I'll likely still update my site, so no worries there. Hope your weekend is going well! =D
-James
I was preparing myself for a bald James... but thankfully, you werent so foolish. Your hair looks pretty good and is indeed still long. Please, keep posting and visiting here!
Hegg
LOL Thanks, Hegg. I can't imagine a bald James either. That would be... just... bad. Hope you're doing well. See you around the board! =D
-James
if anyone will support you in needing a change, it's me! i like the new cut. i think it does a nice job of framing your face and gives you a really good look. and as a bonus, you can still do stuff with it.
i would say to keep your website up. it is still a great reference for those starting to grow their hair out. it does a great job of showing all the different stages. and shows lots of neat places to visit! :)
have fun with the new look!!
peace
nic
Thanks, Nic! I thought I had replied, but perhaps the post didn't go through. At any rate, I appreciate your comments. I remember you recently trimmed your hair back, as well. It works for you, too! Best of luck, and take care. =)
-James
Hey James,
Well, it takes something unusual to happen on the board here in order to nudge me out of the shadows of just lurking, and get me back into the swing of making a reply or 2 these days (lol); but, you indeed have forced me into saying something now....
I like the new look, I really really do! (No, I am NOT being sarcastic here - lol!!) I'd say It seems to suit you extremely well! And the funny thing about that specific style is: before I ever successfully grew my own hair out to ponytail length (the first time being in the early '90s), at that time I used to think of that particualr style as, "long!"
It's all relative. To guys w/ mega-long hair, like Scott (Absalom), chin-length would indeed be a shocking change he could call, "short!!" But, to someone who maybe works around say Wall St. in NYC, that exact same length would feel outlandishly rebeliously long!!! The important thing is: the heart & soul of being a longhair is to please *yourself*... and to let no one else enter into that decision of what makes you happiest! It's not any exact specific hairlength that defines who is and who is not a true "longhair", --- it's the spirit of being willing to stand apart from society's so-called approved short-haired "norm", and being brave enough to be the longer-haired person you really want to be on the outside that you feel matches your hairy feelings inside.
You didn't cut your hair in order to give into someone else's wishes: you shortened and re-styled your hair to simply better please YOURSELF. That makes you still a, "100% true longhair", --- in my book, at least! So, by all means, please do stick around, --- and have FUN with your new look!!!
- Ken
Yeah and I think you should post a lot more often because obviously you've got a good head on your shoulders [although Im sure you have more fun being a bubblehead like I do lol]
Thanks a lot, Ken! I agree with everything you said, and it definitely applies very much to my views on life and happiness therein. Hope all is well out in San Francisco. Take care! =)
-James
Looking as great as ever James!
Thanks for sharing all of those nice progress pictures with us.
- Oren
Hey Oren,
I recently was checking out the Beard Community site, --- I found it totally fascinating (and don't know why I never checked it out before)...
Anyway, one of the most fun things about going there was checking out the photo galleries, --- and seeing your awsome pic there!!
Hope you're still growing your beard back, as well as your mane.
Take care!
- Ken
Thanks, Oren. It's been a heck of a ride along the way, and there will be more updates ahead. =D
-James
You know what? It looks cute. I think I like this lenght better. Tá bonito mesmo! ;-)
Lol! Muito obrigado, Walter. Eu aprecio o comentário. =)
