Hello all,
I haven't posted here in several months now. How's it been?
Anyway, I just got my motorcycle license, and am planning to get a bike later this/next week. Do any of you guys ride a motorcycle? If so, how do you wear your hair? I really don't want my ponytail to be flying around like mad in the wind, becoming a tangly mess and possibly obscuring my vision. The most obvious solution would be a braid, I think, but I have a lot of trouble braiding my own hair, and don't really have anyone to do it for me (two braids, maybe, instead?). Any suggestions? I was thinking maybe wrapping some kind of cord/fabric around the tail, making it into more of a staff-like shape, less liable to fling around. Also, most likely I'd be wearing a bandanna under the helmet to keep stray hairs from entering my field of vision.
Thanks a bunch, guys.
Hey Brazjol.
My uncle is a big motorcycle fan, riding across the country all the time. He wears his hair in a segmented pony tail and swears by it. His friends also wear segmented tails when riding.
Congrats on getting your motorcycle license!

The posibilities are endless! My suggestion...wear a helmet!
Of course! Even if I weren't worried for my safety, and didn't value my life, I'd still wear a helmet because they look cool. :P
Do you have a choice in the States whether or not you wear a helmet.
Yes, you do have a choice in some states. Wearing a helmet on a motorcycle is a state by state law. I live in Kentucky and they do not make you wear a helmet as long as you have your license and not just a permit. However, I only live two miles from the Tennessee state line, and it is mandatory in Tennessee to wear a helmet. I have never understood why all states do not make it mandatory. I for one have a helmet on even if I am just going to the store up the road. I kinda like my brains and would prefer to keep them on the inside of my head! LoL
I definitely agree with you on that one. I'd rather be out riding than re-learning my ABCs.

Because paternalism and limiting personal responsibility is the first step towards totalitarianism.
Seriously though, I'm surprised it's not a federal law, considering just how many laws are.
Trollypup posted some information a month or two ago about these hats that are made to hold ponytails. they fit over your head and there's a pouch looking thing in the back for your hair. they're made expressly for keeping hair out of the way and not blowing around.
First of all, congratulations on getting your motorcycle license!
Up until a few months ago, I would just tail it and detangle it when I'm done with the ride. But the longer it gets, the longer it takes to detangle, not to mention any hair damage. Lately, I've been segmenting my hair with the main band and 5 smaller bands. That way, the only part I have to detangle is the last 4 inches. MUCH easier. Hope this helps!

My ride...
Thanks for the tip! Sweet ride, by the way. I'm going to be getting a Honda Rebel 250. Nice and small. :)
The Rebel's a neat bike. Before I bought this one [first bike], I was thinking about getting something 250-500cc. A friend had this one for sale and it worked out nice. It's an '88 Suzuki Savage, 650cc, 1 cylinder. Not as powerful as a regular V-twin 800 on up, but it works for me... so far.
Good and safe riding to you!

Hey Nice bike there. I used to have a 550 Seca and then an FJ 1300. Sold them and am now looking at getting a Yamaha Raider. Looked at one last week, still pondering it though LOL I miss it and then sometimes I don't we'll see if I get the right urge to get it LOL Hey take care and happy riding.
I wear mine in a ponytail and put my jacket over the top so its underneath, it works really well for me.
Cheers Dave
That seems like a really good idea, I'll keep it in mind for the future :D
That's what I used to do - must get another bike!
I have had a few! Both sport bikes, I sold them and am looking for another but probably more toward a cruiser. I put my hair in a tail and then showed it down my shirt or coat or put it in a few bands all the way down the tail to keep it from getting to tangly. What kind of bike are you looking at? Good luck and have a good safe time with it! Hope your well and great to see you again. Take care
Rub gel through your hair first, then tightly braid it all the way down in one braid. Use two pony-tail holders to secure the end tightly enough the wind won't loosen. It is easier to braid starting at the nape of your neck than it is higher up. You'll have to practice the braid if you haven't done it before. The gel will dry making the hair stay in place and out of your eyes. Plus, if the gel contains sunscreen, it will protect your hair from the sun. Hope this helps.
Have fun riding. Be aware and be safe out there!
hey dude, just a little imput, even though you have long hair it would be wise to wear a helmet at all times, sure it would look cool without one but do you really want to risk your life like that to look cool.
