I'm just doing some light research for an English essay I have to write about a subject on war when I stumbled onto this picture.
I thought some of you might enjoy it.
Way to rock that hair, Sherman and staff. Everyone has either a 'stache or a beard!
High res.
A most fascinating vintage photo indeed and such a unique study!
I have taken a small segment of the photo and colourized it to the best of my ability with about 40 minutes work. (I could have done better.) To do the complete photo would take a day or two at least because it is so full of people and rather intricate. A single portrait is the most successful.
But perhaps I am close in the choice of colours and have helped bring the soldiers back to life for the eyes of today?
Hey Justin ! It seems you're increasing your ability to color photo, each time I see one, it's better ! Good choice of color. (Maybe still a bit tern ?)
Hi Vivian
Yes, I "think(?)" I have become better at it. One thing for sure is that it is alot of fun and quite the challenge. The photo above is Abraham Lincoln in 1865. This was his last photograph and was done on a glass plate which as can be seen now has a crack in it.
Thanks for all of your help Vivien. The board is so lucky to have you and you are appreciated more than you will ever realize.
Take care-
Justin~
Excellent restoration work! Thanks for posting this photo!
If you ever attend a reinactment some of them have long hair.
