Hi All.
At the moment I'm 5 months and one week without haircut(started from about 0.5 inch) but since I always like to plan ahead just an intresting question for the "corporate" people here.
At the moment I'm a student(and will be for a few years) so long hair (which I hope I'll have next year :) ) is no problem but I was wondering about keeping it later.
I plan to work in the high tech industry and planning to keep my pony tail at shoulder length tied-any1 here work in high tech companies and managed to keep such length tied up without problems or for that matter do u think it will cause problems?(BTW:I live in Israel for those of u who are intrested but I don't think the standards in the high tech industries are different of those in the USA-actually most of the high tech "culture" here is copy of the american one).
2 other things:
1. The "get a haircut" comment is really annoying especially in my case where I actually get those comments from friends and family and not from people I don't know.
2. About the discussion of girls and long hair: While telling girls I know of my plan to grow long hair I've noticed none of them was much supportive(2 just commented it may look nice and 1 looked at me and asked me "why?" then suggesting I get spikes).
So, maybe not all the girls (or even most) of them like long hair but I agree that the most important thing is to do it for urself because what I've learned in life is that people will always try to shit u so u will fit with the image they have of u but doing it your way will always be worth the while.:)
Adi.
Long hair is VERY common in tech companies, at least here in the US. In fact, it is one of the few careers that is long hair tolerant. Sometimes, long hair and earrings are all but required, especially in IT type jobs.
The "get a haircut" remarks will diminish after you've gone through the "awkward stage".

Is it because technology jobs are low-profile?
I work for a computer parts company. One of the operations managers has mid-back length thick, magnificent golden blond hair, and the other has tattoos up and down his calves. Many of the women and men have piercings and tattoos, and you feel awkward if you don't have some sort of unusual adornment. I love it!

NO STOP DUDE!!!! dont cut your hair, the same thing happened to me,but i ignored all the negative comments(since i had no positve)but now all i get is good comments hey im currently in high school and my hair looks good(girls love it)all you got to wait is about 1 more year.it will go by extremly fast specially after like 8 months of growing your hair, that when you have fun cause you can do all the wacky crazy stuff.
good luck dude,later
so let your hair grow as long as your a student.
I am a computer programmer. Not only have I not had any problems at work with my hair, I actually get a fair number of compliments on it (primarily from women, but some from men also. My hair is wavy/curly and about to my shoulder blades. I usually wear it loose and free.
As far as the girls are concerned. Well, most people (men and women), tend to judge things by the moment. When your hair is in the awkward stage, and it looks messy, you will hear more negative comments. For some reason, women are less inhibited about commenting to a guy on his hair, which is why you will hear more negative comments from women during this phase. As your hair grows past the awkward stage and actually starts to look good, you will notice a reduction in the negative comments. Then, as your hair gets longer still and starts to look really great, you will notice an increase in positive comments, and again, most of these will come from women. And some women will really love it!
