Hi, I'm Mike and I've only posted on this site a couple times. I was wondering what is the best brand of shampoo and conditioning products for dry hair that I can buy at a local store such as Walmart? I do not have the money to afford salon products.
"The Best Brand" will be the one that works the best for you. You might just consider starting with the Aussie line of products. They work well and are not overly expensive and are available at Walmart as well as found easily in many a grocery store.
Low-cost Walmart products for dry hair: Pantene Pro-V Daily Moisture Renewal Shampoo and Conditioner are both made for dry/damaged hair ($5-$6 each). Also, pick up an avocado while you're there ($1.27), a shower cap ($0.97), and any type of jojoba oil if you can find it ($4.99).
The avocado can be mashed up with some water and rubbed into dry hair for an oil treatment once or twice a month. Carefully cover hair with a shower cap. Run a hand towel under hot water, wring out, and wrap that over the shower cap to retain the heat. Leave on fifteen minutes. Rinse out in cold water. Shampoo and condition as normal rinsing in cold water. The avocado makes hair super shiny and super smooth.
Also, after washing your hair on a non-avocado normal day, letting it air dry but still a little bit damp, you can rub a small amount of jojoba oil through the hair to lock in moisture. Jojoba oil is the closest thing to the natural sebum produced by your scalp. A bottle lasts me almost a year. Use very sparingly.
Also, a boar bristle brush if you can find it (a small one is about $7). If you can't find the boar bristle brush or jojoba oil at Walmart, try Walgreens. Boar bristle is excellent for distributing your scalp oil or jojoba oil through the hair to the ends without damage.
Good luck!
