I have started growing my hair out recently. I have had a shaved head for over a year - not buzzed, shaved with a razor so I am truly starting at skin only.
I have grown 60 days on hair and beard and according to the average hair growth rate as I understand it I should have 1 inch of growth. I measured my head hair and I am maybe 1/16 of an inch past 1/2 inches for 2 months growth. So, basically I am growing at 1/2 the average rate.
At this rate it will take me forever to grow it long...
Anyone have the same problem? Any solutions/advice/suggestions?
It has been my experience that beards and head hair grow at different rates. The question is, do you truly want to have a wonderful long mane? If so my advice is not to cut or trim for at least 3 years. Learn patience, read up HERE on hair care so you don't damage it (starting out so fresh is good cuz you have no issues yet), prepare for the awkward stage and visit here often for support.
Thanks for the advice. As you guys advise, I will try and just let it grow and ignore the growth rate. I plan to take care of the hair during the process and have been washing with water only (no shampoo) since day 0. Also, I plan to use no products, no hairdryers, etc.
I am growing the beard and the hair at the same time (untrimmed) and would like to get at least a year's growth on the beard, and then much longer with the hair. I am 31, and my hairline has receded some the last few years (widow's peak area). My father is completely bald (and began to bald in his mid-30s), so there is a chance I could start balding soon as well. So far I have no balding at the crown. I have always wanted to have long hair and have never done it. I figure if I don't do it now, I may never have the chance. If the MPB is a false alarm I will have long hair and enjoy it. If I do get MPB then at least I will have had the experience of long hair while I could.
Anyway, here are the pics so far of my first 60 days. I will drop in with more update pics every 6 months or so.

yea yourt hair has a slow growth rate looks like you just got screwed by genes nothing we can do lol sorry maybe im wrong idk
Dude you look a lot like my youngest son in the first pic. Your hair looks fine too.
Welcome. My advice is to not pay attention to your hair at all. Don't think of it as growing your hair long, just think of it as not getting haircuts. I grew my hair by accident because my parents suddenly stopped caring about my hair, and suddenly people were telling me how long my hair had gotten.
So basically my advice is to be patient.
First, that's an interesting usser name you have chosen; do you like the Eleusinian mysteries?
Everybody does not have the same hairgrowth rate. It could be you are going through a slow growth phase or orther circumstances which might cause slower growth: stress, diet, heat, & c.
Let it grow a few more months and then gauge your rate from that. Good luck and happy growing.

Personally my hair seems to grow much slower in the summer months, as opposed to the usual growth spurt in everyone else! lol.
weird.
But yeah in a month it didnt even grow 1/2 an inch for me lately! So don't worry too much :)
