What's up, how are you all doing?
I'm still doing fine, even without the hair :)
I was pretty happy with my hair two years ago, but it got worse and worse no matter what I did. I think my genes caught up with me, and I was never able to achieve the main goal I had set for growing long hair, and it ended up being a problem that I was striving for and obsessed with something that was not possible for me. I got it cut down fairly short in the spring, and it was around 9" yesterday growing out.
Took a decision today, that I'm abandoning growing it out, because I could only look forward to the same grief again.
I am sad, in a way, that I could never reach my desired length, but at the same time I am happy for the journey I had and happy that I have come to terms with my inability to grow it.
Here's a couple of pics:
Last month:
One from a few months before I cut it first, anyone who remembers me can see that it is quite a bit shorter than it was a couple of years earlier, and it had been growing all the time (with a few trims, of course)
And finally this is how it is now:
So yeah, I don't really fit on this board anymore, but I'm still a huge fan of long hair, and I will support anyone in growing it out. The more people with long hair, the better. It just wasn't for me. At least not for now, I might return on day, knowing my limitations so I won't be disappointed.
Basically, I just missed you guys and wanted to say hi, so... Hi :)
Good luck with growing all of your hair!
Hello mate,
Yes...
Good to see you mate and glad to see you make a post here. As we know everyone is different and hair growth rates really do vary and it to all to do with genetics. At the end of the day you have to be happy and glad of what you have achieved and it's a personal thing. I know over the years you have been a very positive contributor to the community here.
It was great to see you in London back in April at the Paganfest and real surprise out of the blue to see you. There were so many people from Scandinavia came over for that night.
Keep in touch mate,
Cheers,
John.B
Cheers John!
Yeah, it was good to see you there too! I didn't expect it, even though I suppose it was inevitable at a metal gig in London :)
Hello man !
So sad you had to cut. I suppose having this kind of limitation is not easy to accept, but you accepted it !
At least, you choosed an non-conventionnal hairstyle :D
Good bye and good luck,
Vivien
Yeah, it took a long time to come to terms with, this is the first time in almost 8 years that I'm not trying to get long hair, so it feels nice not to be all obsessed. And I could grow it again whenever I feel like it, and I have a feeling I probably will one day.
Thanks!
That's really sad that you cut your hair, but the Mohawk is pretty cool. Even if you have short hair, it's the hair growing inside your heart that matters :)
That's true :)
Cheers!
Hey man,
I'm sorry to hear that you decided to cut your hair. It looks like (judging by your photo link) that you DID achieve some good length when you were growing it out. I also must say that the mohawk looks sick on you.
Thanks for stopping by and sharing your photos.
-Phil
PS: Extol rules!
That picture was 4½ years after the last major cut, I had only had occasional trims in that time.
Oh yeah, they really do :)
Cool you could recognize it!
Hey good to see ya! Now I wouldn't say you don't belong. I would think any supporters are more then welcome and supporters in the people beyond the longhair too. So the important thing is that your comfortable with who you are. So Nice Spikes! looks cool and I hope things are good and take care!
Thanks! Yeah, I do feel I'd always be welcome here!
I think you're actually on to something importing, the most important thing is to be true to yourself and be comfortable.
At this point in time, I think this is what is right for me, because it feels right.
Yes,I do remember you very well as it has been a long time since we all heard from you.I'm also sorry to hear that you've given up on longhair but at least you gave it an honest try.Its debatable whether or not your longhair looked good or not as we are our own worst critics. There is so much product available today for hair as maybe something may have helped your hair for whatever you thought was wrong with it.Maybe someday you can try growing again as you are young still and its quite possible your hair texture might change. For now though I'm glad you did stop in to say hello as at least we know what happened to you.My best wishes for your future endeavours my friend and please don't be a stranger.I for one will always welcome you:)
Mark
Thanks!
I did actually post something a couple of months ago, but it was in the middle of a big thread, and I think it got overlooked by most.
I think my hair did look good at one point, but it had gotten worse. I'd definitely be up for growing it again one day, I just need to have some time not focusing on it!
I'll try to make sure to stop in once in a while, as it is a nice group of people here! :)
Hejhej, Mesmerized!
I did miss you and wondered what had become of you. I'm happy to hear all is well with you in Denmark.
I really do understand where you are coming from with your decision to go short again. You and I have almost the exact same hair, exact texture, color, very fine, wavy/curly etc. I have had the same "problem" that you described and have also come to the realization that I am never going to have tail bone length hair or even waist-length probably. My hair after two and a half years is only about six inches past my shoulders and the ends are already pretty sparse and thin. I probably can eke out about mid-back length and that will be it. I am OK with that though and will "gather my rosebuds" while I may.
I had been sad at times when I realized this, just as you were. I too have been obsessed with hair growing for quite some time. So what I am getting at is that I comprehend your decision, because I have had the same thought processes and dashed hopes of super-long hair. I have even had the dreaded thought of just cutting it and being done with it! I hate to admit that here on the board! :-( However, I am extremely stubborn, so I am sticking it out a little longer.
I think you do still fit in here because you have lots of friends here that enjoy your presence. And who knows, one day, you may decide to grow some length again, knowing what is possible and what your result will be. Either way, you're still a handsome Viking.
Matt B.
Hej Matt!
Yep, you're pretty much describing how mine was. I think it's cool you're sticking with it, and I wish you the best of luck!
And thanks for saying I still fit. It's true, I have made many friends here that it would be sad to abandon. To tell the truth, if this was a phpbb board with an off-topic section, I would likely be here more. As it is, the main topic, the caring for long hair isn't really something I think much about at the moment, so I believe I will peep in once in a while and say hi, but not on as regular basis as before!
Take care :)
You know, you could just let the mohawk portion grow long (10-12 inches or so), and give tips from time to time and progress shots of how that process is going. It's an idea, at least.
Matt
Hi Mesmerized. I came here in February of this year, so I am fairly new. It is a disappointment that your hair did not turn out as you wished. While you had your hair long, it looked fine on you. I don't mind your mohawk, nevertheless, but I hope you will give hair growing another try later. Best wishes,
Regardless
My MySpace - feel free to add me as a friend
Hey Regardless! Thank you for the best wishes!
I was disappointed myself, but I'm over that for the moment. I have spent the last eight years growing my hair (with a few cuts in there, when I gave up) and I'm sure I might do it again, but I just need to not focus on it for a while!
Hi Mesmerized, yeah sure we missed you! Shame the mane had to go but sometimes these things just go that way. Anyway your new look is really cool and still very metal.
Rock on and stay in touch mate.
~ Dave
Thanks! I was actually told once I'd look metal even with pigtails :P Never did try that out, haha!
Thanks, and the same!
By the way, judging by your small picture here, your hair looks amazing now! Way to go!
Hi Stefan,
My heartiest welcome back to you, and of course I remember, and miss you. I am sorry to hear about your frustrations due to having a short terminal length. However, you will ALWAYS be welcome on the hyperboard, since this is a community of friendships as well as about hair! Hopefully, we will see you around more often.
Take care,
David
Hey Mesmerized
How could we NOT forget you? Impossible!!!!!!! And yes, you have been missed. You were here for so many years, you served as a moderator of great respect, were liked by everyone and for good reason. You were ALWAYS such a true gentleman and a great asset to the board as well as inspirational with the long hair you achieved.
Funny thing. We would all look at your updates and think they were great.........of course not knowing that you had something else in mind to achieve that you were unable. Alas, so often (and the same goes for myself) it is so easy to be ones own worst enemy about their hair. Guess that is just human nature.
I am so glad that all is well with you and that you are happy for this is the most important. And of the new hairstyle? I think its really neat!!!!!!! :-) Many guys couldn't pull off the variety of looks you have and each looks great on you. Besides, hair should be a fun way to express oneself!
If you decide to post, you have so much to offer in longhair tips that would help other guys. (Kind of like one who has graduated and is now in another field, but yet is still a top expert in dealing with long hair and could offer much help and encourgement to others.) I see no reason for you not to feel free to post at all. You have all the wisdom to offer as you have been through the whole growing out process. And besides, I cannot recall one episode in the entire time that you were here that anyone EVER had a problem with you. No way. You were ALWAYS so well liked!
Take care and my best to you-
Justin~
I remember you! While I think you looked good with the longer hair, your new style is definitely cool, and I'm glad you're happy with it. At the very least, nobody will mistake you for a corporate clone. LOL!
Mouse
The new hair looks good, bro! I actually just cut mine last week. I had a 'hawk right before I started growing mine out over a year ago. I cut it off tho because I think it scared off potential customers of my business. :-) One thing about the short hair, you're outta the shower a lot faster. Well, take care.

Hey, I've only been here like 7 months so I am unaware of your previous activity on the board.
I'm very sorry you have a short terminal length :(, it's really horrible to hear.
However you look good with whatever style you choose, and different in every picture I must say!
However I love the mohawk :D. Keep it up!
As long as you're happy with yourself then this is what counts in life.
Take care
Shawn
