ok its obvious almost nobody here wants me here do to my grammer so im leaving il prolly view the boards but wont be posting any longer
have a good day all you guys that picked on me suck bye
I dont see why you guys are complaining so much hes not that bad of a speller just lazy like I am. we talk about hair here not literacy
Well, it's kind of hard to talk about hair when you cannot understand the person posting the topic.
Hi Hegg The Norsk
I would say that in this particular case you are 100% correct. The following words have been extracted from the MLHH rule #11 having to do with those that post to this board:
"The purpose of our site is for us to communicate with each other, and posts should be made to be as readable by others as possible // use standard spelling, capitalization, and punctuation. The reason you post is to get your words read, and we consider the writer's one-time effort to make his post readable a more efficient use of everyone's time than making several hundred users each spend extra time to figure out what the writer meant. The purpose of this rule is not to discourage those with no or limited English skills from posting. It is to discourage those from using poor English who should know better."
It would only make sense, at least to myself that the one who started this thread learn to become much more understandable to the majority who visit this board.
Justin~
As someone who has watched this board for years, I see the wave of posting slowing in part due to the general attitude of the board. The other reason is we are in a time where long hair is normal, the need for this board now is small.
As the style changes again, so will this board. Until judging each other takes a back seat to hair, this kind of stuff will continue.
Cheers
Paul
Site records show a steady climb up to 2005. Activity doubled from 2003 to 2005. This pattern is similar to the activity levels seen with other sites I help maintain. My take on this climb is that it was due to the growth of the Internet when it was still new. Since 2005, most adults who are going to get on the Internet have already gotten on it, and most newcomers are kids.
Since 2005, usage of MLHH has fluctuated but not wildly. If we use 2005 as a base year and extrapolate this year's usage out to December 31, site records show the relative activity of each year as shown here, with the base year of 2005 set at 100:
2003- 50
2004 - 78
2005 - 100
2006 - 83
2007 - 118
2008 - 99
The size of the users' directory has remained about the same, as well, in the last few years.
Long hair has definitely gotten more popular; 1998 was a low point and by 2002 we began to see longhairs in commercial ads and as characters on TV again. This had ceased in the early 1990s. Now we do see more longhairs in public than we used to, and longhairs seldom greet other longhairs on the street just because they have long hair, which was common ten years ago, during the "drought". As a result, we've seen more activity with "growing it" and "hair care" topics and less with discrimination topics. These probably balance out in the activity totals.
A shift we have definitely seen is one of age group. As an item in the identity of many who seek us out, long hair tends to be a lifetime interest, and one that guys in many cases don't find "real world" support for. This means that quite a few "born longhairs" seek us out soon after they get on line. Since most newcomers to the Internet are kids, this means we get a lot of younger guys now.
I doubt site moderation policies have had a substantial effect since they have not changed a lot. If anything, the crew is more lenient than it used to be, but a balance does have to be stricken. If they were too lenient, the site would cease to have a focus to the point that most of the users would leave. If they were too strict, they would also drive most of the users off. They strive to seek that balance that pleases the most of the site's target group, which is men with long hair or growing it out. With about a dozen men making those decisions instead of one like in the early days, I see better and more consistent decisions coming out of the crew now than then. No offense to Victor whatsoever, but no one man can outperform a dozen men with the task of taking the pulse of a community of hundreds.
That's my take on it, having been a user here since 1997 and involved with management since 1999.
Bill
Most interesting; thanks Bill for that overview; I suspect long hair is more popular now because people are tired of the almost military conformity in U.S. society (don't know as much about the rest of the world) and the (in my opinion), incompetence of the Bush Administration, and see long hair as among other things, a passive expression of resistance.
Anyway, re the original topic, I personally don't care how people wish to express themselves here but I agree with the point that has been made before, that clear standard English is probably easier for non-native speakers to understand, and we must keep in mind that participation is not limited to the U.K, U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
Wow, something to be thankful for due to George Bush! And from you, of all people! [wink]
Bill
Very interesting Bill.
It will be even more interesting to see if use of this Board rises again as 'long hair' recedes as part of the normal fashion cycle. The thought police will certainly seek to recover their opposition.
Having been around since 2002 and having used the Board's inspiration to regrow my hair (now 56) in a professional UK environment I have not noticed any hardening of the Board's attitudes and entirely agree that minimum standards of English should be adopted in posts. The present instance being wholly appalling and entirely unfair to those whose native language is not English.
Let's keep going to be ready for the time long hair comes back under threat.
I haven't seen any of your other posts, but looking at this one, it's like you tried to make as many mistakes as possible while keeping it barely possible to understand. It pains my brain to try and decode it.
Well a capital letter and a full stop would be a good start!
Bye them!
Cheers,
John.B
Christ almighty. Maybe if you use punctuation people wouldn't be so upset. To be honest I never finished reading any of your posts. I think this is the only one I ever finished. Fortunately it was short. I found your posts to be headache inducing and at times nauseating. Make an effort and use periods at least.
i almost think he was doing it on purpose sort of thumbing his nose at the group as he s been asked several times and just doesn t care after all no one expects perfect grammer and punctuation but at least an attempt the rule on that is there for a good reason but some people just not interested.
LOL
