As some know already I've been to the Wacken Metal Festival over a week ago. I flew into London and got together with John B and friends and we all drove over to Germany from there. In years past they had an attendance of around 40,000 but the last two years it's jumped to 65,000, a bit much. We had fun anyway.
Enjoy the pics

The headbanger
Misc Hair
Bandana, nice mane
Another nice mane
The crowd just before Iron Maiden. We didn't go in just sat in the beer garden.
More Misc hair
We always stop at the nearest large town to load up on beer and food.
A few of our group at the camp site
Mel and myself at the beer garden the first night.
Was waiting for carcass and the rain came. lol
That looked like you had so much fun, Kevin. I'm glad you could experience it. Wow, the manes there were breath taking! Absolutely great hair. I hope to attend Wacken before I die. You looked great in the pictures as well, I especially enjoyed the rain picture, haha. Cheers, take care.

Well I hope you do get over there before it gets too big for it's boots just like the way the Dynamo festival in Holland. It's now at capacity and the "sponsored" by has started appearing on things!
Cheers,
John.B
thanks, The rain picture was for a laugh, luckily the Wacken people give you this "Full Metal Bag" with your ticket purchase which among other things includes a trash bag/rain poncho. The weather otherwise was great. The crowd John B is referring to was huge, 75,000 I saw on one report. In years past it was around 45 to 50,000 so in short too many people.
If you do it only once in your life I do recommend it I just hope it doesn't get too commercial.
Kevin
Hey, Kevin. Great pictures. Looks like a lot of fun and it looks like the long hairs are in the majority at this event. A crowd of 65,000 sounds pretty intense, but it looks like you had a great time and heard some incredible music.
Del
Yeah it turns out it was a bit more than 65,000 but that just meant more manes to photograph. Although I only took a few, not as many in years past.
Thanks
Kevin
Ah yes great times and good memories..:-)
Cheers,
John.B
Your right, memories to last a lifetime.
Kevin
Hi Kevin,
What a fabulous set of photos, and I can tell that you all had a rocking good time! It sure appears that there is a lot of great heads of hair everywhere. Thank you for sharing.
Cheers,
David
Hi Kevin,
I got your email earlier today (I sent a reply), and I am looking forward to our little chat. I am not sure about the "time zone difference", or how many hours we are apart in our time zones. My last recollection was a two hour difference, since I am on ADT, or one hour ahead of EDT.
Take care,
David
"Waiting for carcass and the rain came"
lol! I'm glad you guys had a good time. All that booze, long hair, babes and metal....ahhh, heaven :-)
I'm really glad you guys had a wonderful time. Thanks for sharing the good times with us John and kevin. Look forward to more photos ;-)
It was amazing, if I don't do anything else in life I've at least done that. Some of us have talked about another Festival "Metal Camp" held in Western Slovenia. It's a smaller festival that goes for 6 days. Only not as big.
Kevin
Looks like you and John had a lot of fun.
All those long hairs! Too cool!
OMG............Longhair Heaven! What a sensational trip you had Kevin and I just cannot get over seeing so many longhairs all at once that it actually looks common. Thank you ever so much for sharing highlights of this fabulous trip with all of us.
And..........so glad you had a chance to enjoy all with JohnB and friends. This MUST have been the highlight of your whole Summer! :-)
Take care
Justin~
It was longhair heaven and to think most all of them grew out their hair without our help. I guess it's not that hard after all. lol
Kevin
I am glad you had fun Kevin at Wacken. The pictures tell the story of your experience. As for me, I am not a fan of very heavy metal music myself.
Regardless
My MySpace - feel free to add me as a friend
Wow, was that a music festival or a hair festival! Awesome pics; thanks for sharing them. You two surely had a great time!
Bill
It would have made a great hair festival too.
The one time a year I really let my hair down.
Kevin
Hi Kevin,
Thanks for the pictures and glad to hear (and see) that you had a good time. Looks like a fun music festival to attend.
I just looked up Wacken on the map. A very scenic drive there I'd imagine. From pictures that I have seen, that seems like a very nice part of Germany. I imagine though you didn't enjoy the gas prices.

Hi Matt,
It's a lovely drive up there but coming backing on the Sunday I think every Germany and their caravan were out on a 2 lane autobahn and average speed of 30 mph. So much for fast motorways in Germany and I'm sure Mrs Merkle isn't doing thing about itapart from cleaning the graffiti along the sides!
Cheers,
John.B
Interesting John,
That shatters my image of the German autobahn altogether. When I was down in Italy, the average speed on their autostrade seemed to be about 150 kph!
Matt B.
Those pics look great. I'm hoping I'll get to go to Wacken again next year since I missed it this year. What was this year's Spiderschwein?
Hi Kevin!
That show looks phenomenal as it has to be the greatest thing going to a concert like that dedicated only to METAL!!Hey no Bon Jovi there I'm sure!LOL.And WOW look at all that HAIR:)Looks like paradise for sure as it reminds me of the good old days going to La'mours in Brooklyn in the 1980s.The amount of hair in the audience was a sight to see as you just don't see that anymore in the states.I envy you being able to take that much time off from work to be able to do a trip like that.Sounds like you've been doing it on a regular basis too.Well maybe someday I will make it there at least once just to relive the glory days of metal in the USA.At least they still know how to rock in Germany. Thanks for posting those very cool pics as they all are great!Take care Kevin and catch you on the board.
Mark
That's kind of what I thought was that it reminded me of the old days. I did get you a shirt but it's a KL they didn't have anything smaller at the time I was buying. i'll e mail you later.
Thanks Mark
Kevin
Wow every picture is epic man, the long hairs, the music, and the beer...ahhhhh I wish I was there :)
Patrick_R
Wow, that is a lot of nice manes. Hope you had a good time. (I am sure you did in spite of the rain.)
Scott
Looks like a lot of fun, at festivals you always see a lot of nice manes. I will probably go to wacken next year, last to years I missed them because of other vacations.
Thanks Vincemt
It was fun in spite of the massive crowds we are talking of not going next year but that could change. Also we're thinking of Metal camp in Slovenia but that's a longer car ride and more money to do but the festival goes for 6 days. I guess we'll wait and see the lineup of bands.
Kevin
Yeah every festival is getting bigger it seems.
I went to my first one this year, and I want to visit as many different as possible and stay at the ones I like the most.
So wacken is definately one on that list.
Well, it seems you both spent a great time there. Nice photos ;)
Bye
Vivien
Great pics Kevin, I am officially jealous, that must be amazing to be at a festival devoted to metal.
Cheers Dave
