Hi Scott
Well, today was "Hair Wash" day for me, and because of what you had mentioned in your thread concerning how much hair you were shedding, I captured what happened to me today so that you could compare. (Of course, I am at the peak shedding period of the year for myself right now.)
It looks like alot of hair to me, and yet I am not phased by it in the slighest nor even worried. I go through this cycle yearly without fail. The next two photos show my hair condition today after shedding this bowl full and all is dry and combed.
Please remember at my present long length, that I wash only once per week. The MOST hair shedding loss occurs on wash day.
Hope this all makes you feel better now that you see what happens to myself.
Take care Scott-
Justin~
Despite all of this shedding, I really do not notice all that much thinning-out of my hair and all appears nice and full, at least to myself.
Damn! You have a really nice mane, Justin. I hope to acheive such a length in my journey. Take care.
Hegg
Hi Justin,
What a fabulous mane you are blessed with, and thick, right to the ends. You should be able to grow it a lot longer than your current length.
Take care,
David
What awesome hair Justin. I figure you could stand a lot of shedding before you would notice anything.
Kevin
Your hair is absolutely gorgeous, Justin. Just lovely. It looks longer now too. All the shedding does not appear to be causing you any problems at all.
Scott
Hey Scott :-)
Thanks so much for your very kind words. I am VERY happy with my long hair and it IS growing longer now that I know enough to keep the ends blunt which is like about hardly ever needed. Just a guess. 3 times in 2 years.
My thoughts on the shedding: This is Natures Natural way of thinning-out. And..........it works FAR BETTER than going to a Salon and having a person do it. Just let nature decide for you for the best look of all.
Take care
Justin~
Very nice Justin, I'm in awe!
Bruce
Hi Justin.Hmmmmmmm now I'm trying to figure out exactly what type of pasta you've got going there!Looks thinner than angel hair thats for sure so I guess we'll just refer to it as justin hair....Bon appitite!LOL
Just messing with you Justin as those other pics of your mane are to die for:)I'm jealous!LOL.You are definately an inspiration for me as I hope my hair looks half that good as I get older. Thanks for posting the pics and be well my friend:)
Mark
Yes Mark my friend I have to agree with you Justin is a real shining example and inspiration. As for shredding it's just one of those things that happens when you have longhair and from also what a read it seems to be a science to some on here or an excuse to get the scissors out...eh trimmers!
Cheers,
John.B
My shedding looks like this. What do you guys think my problem might be?
Oh, for got to give proper credit for the photo, which was downloaded from Flickr under a Creative Commons license. It's from yaraaa's photostream on flickr.
Switch from tomato sauce to melted cheese, decrease the amount of butter you apply. Switch from a 4 tine fork to a 3 tine fork. There, no more shedding!
Wow Steve, are you tying it up when you eat, 'cos there seems an awful lot of foot stuck in there?
~ Dave
Hummmmmm.... Looks like you have a Parmesan problem I would try Head and shoulders anti Parmesan shampoo. Otherwise your hair looks fantastic keep it growing.
Kevin
I don't think you can do anything about it. Looks genetic. Are you Italian?
As one who finds Parmesan completely loathsome, I would say ditch the cheese!
Steve B
Hey there Justin, don't forget each one of those hairs will be looooonnnngggg, therefore there probably isn't as many as you might think.
Regards Dave
but determining just how much is there is difficult. There is nothing of a known size next to it. How wide is that bowl and wad of hair? I put a ruler next to my wad to show its size. If that bowl is 6" across, that is a huge amount of hair. If it is 3" across it is not such a huge amount.
Scott
All sounds a bit too technical for me!
Hi Scott
I have never done anything like this before, nor had it ever entered my mind to do so until your posting came along. Ha Ha Ha.........funny how it looks so disgusting in a bowl, but well on the head!
Anyway, I have just measured and here are the measurments:
1. Bowl measures 8-1/4" across and is 2-1/8" deep counting the top of the rim.
2. Hair was about level to the top and extended out past the edge of the bowl in all directions by several inches.
I did not try and weigh it, but then I just go about my life and go with the flow and don't give something like this really any thought. All I KNOW is that there is plenty of hair left on my head to spare despite being in the the height of my shedding period. Seems like tons is always clogging the vacumn cleaner..........but even this is of no concern to me as I just consider it "normal hair loss" for myself and despite all, my hair is still growing just great.
Hope what I have shown will help put your mind at ease.
Your friend
Justin~
than I am shedding, at washing, now that I know the dimensions of that bowl. I am shedding quite a bit between washings too. Are you shedding quite a bit in between washings too? I have a lot of hairs in the 6 to 8 inch (awkward stage range, ha ha) right now. I looked at the ends of them with a 10 power eye loupe and the tips come to a perfect point. They are not broken strands, as I first thought, but new :-) growth. It appears that all this new growth started a year or so ago to replace future shedding, so I am much (but not quite 100%) relieved. Thank you so much, Justin. You are a true friend.
Scott
Hey Scott
Glad I saw your posting "before" I combed my hair for the day. The above photo shows todays "catch" for today of shed hairs on an 8" paper plate. So, here is an idea for you of what is typical right now for me during my peak time of the year for an extra amount of shedding for myself. (Of course there is more on the carpet which will clog the vacumn later on.) And, washing day ALWAYS produces MANY MORE shed hairs for me despite the time of year and it ALWAYS has. Doesn't phase me in the slighest. Guess I am just so used to it I never even give it a second thought.
The hairs appear to be in all different lengths (but I was hardly going to take the time to measure) which surprised me a bit as I never had even thought about it before. Guess all I think about is just to simply enjoy my long hair with the least amount of work and let it go at that. The whole thing is FUN for me and I LOVE long hair! :-)
I refuse to spend any longer on it than 10 minutes per day, but it IS important to dislodge the old hairs that have been shed and are still trapped within the rest of the hair DAILY. If this is not done, masses of snags, knots and a whole mess of tangles will be in store on the second day. All is finger combed first. Second I use a wood comb with wide teeth. Follow-up for a nice shine is now done with a Boars Bristle brush. And out the door I go! Zoom...................
It is most likely the case in your situation that all of a sudden a whole bunch of hairs have arrived at terminal, and added to this perhaps a "shedding time of year for you" as well.
Hope this has been of help to you Scott and that now you can just relax about the whole thing. If no Dr. has expressed concern and all of your blood tests were fine, for now I would say just put the whole thing out of your mind if possible and don't even bother to measure. Just enjoy! :-)
My best to you always.
Your friend-
Justin~
Yes that is a lot more than I am shedding in between washes as well. I am going to try to chill out and not worry about it. Thanks again.
Scott
A Scientific discovery?
Put the bowl out on the back porch last night. Got up this AM and low and behold all had turned into the above........and I couldn't resist and just ate it! Delicious and Yum yum. But, NOW I am a bit worried. Think I am going to live? Was Tinkerbell around last night?
Wow that looks scrummy I'll be around for Breakfast!
Hi Justin,
That does look like a lot of hair! I don't seem to lose that much anymore. Maybe because I wash my hair every three to four days.
I wrote a reply to Scott's post about losing so much hair. I feel for him as I used to lose a lot back when mine was even longer and I was younger. ;-) I do have some miner male pattern balding in the front but that is the worse after all of those shedding sessions I had over the years, now I only lose what I consider a small amount (see photo in my other post)I know that losing hair is much like the trees losing their leaves. Most of the time it grows back. :-)
John S.
Hey John S
So glad you are not shedding all that much anymore. Your own hair certainly looks great to my eyes! :-) And yes, I DID read what you had to say in the other fine posting of which you speak.
Yikes! I am behind schedual. I better get out to my UFO parked in the driveway, fuel it up with extracted magnatic oils combined with the salts of the rare metals, and be on my way. Just so much to do out in the Cosmos for the day. LOL :-)
Take care and hope all has been well with you my friend.
Justin~
Yes, Justin,
I am glad that I am not shedding that much anymore too. :-0
Thanks for the compliment. I feel that all in all I am
holding up rather well, including my hair.
Looks like "YIKES" is right. That plate of protein (hair) you have there is not enough even with the ketchup to make a full meal. :-))
P.S. Check this out, I attached a photomicrograph of one of my hair-ties. I took the picture using my new research microscope.
You can see the little metal decoration often used to accent a
hair-tie. And to think this is only 40 times magnification. ;-)
John S.
I wonder if they can damage hair. I sure hope not. They are the only ones I could find in a full rainbow of colours. Here is one magnified in my "macro booth", which I made out of polycarbonate plastic. It has 6 LEDs for illumination, so no need for the flash, which is useless at such close distances. I can use my digital camera to magnify objects up to about 25 power. In the image you can see that the metallized strips in the hair ties are about 0.4 mm across. How much magnification depends on monitor screen size.
Scott
I have experienced quite a lot of shedding this summer, too.
- Oren
That does look like a lot of hair, but as long as it's growing back then it's nothing to worry about.
On the other hand, I lose maybe 1/3 of that much and yet my hair is thinning and there are areas where I'm on the verge of being able to see scalp. I never saw it coming because I don't remember a single time where I started to rapidly shed hair.
