Hey Guys:
It's been awhile since I posted but i've run into a problem. My thick wavy/curly hair is now lying totally straight...i mean bone straight. As I mentioned a month ago I had highlights put in, and toned out b/c they looked so awful. I'm wondering if the chemicals in the dye could of have changed my hair from curly to straight. If there's any hair cair professionals on here I hope you can answer because my hair is lying straight and dead now, no body, wave etc. Thanks.

Am a men's hair care professional with 20+ years' experience, Carlos. Your hair shaft is like a finger with all the joints being connective bonds which give the hair shaft its permanent bend (no bend=straight, slight bend=wave, tight bend=curl) Breaking the bonds and wrapping the hair around a rod and then reforming the bonds is the process known as "giving a perm". Well, it seems to me that the person who did the highlights (a chemical process) and then took them out (another chemical process) broke the bonds without re-forming them. Leaving the hair combed straight after the last process would account for straight "dead" hair if left to re-form itself. Without actually assessing the damage in person, I am afraid your situation is critical; further chemical treatments to replace the curl could leave your hair really fried, dry and frizzy. Be VERY careful about what you decide to do next--even with a professional's help.
Carlos,
You have been growing your hair for almost two years right? Do you think that the longer length is making your hair straighter?
