Hey again.
I'm posting this thread just to let everyone know I got my hair dyed a different colour. I've been wanting to since about May but thought my hair was too short at the time. I bought the box dye ('chestnut-red' it said on the box) in mid-June and haven't touched it since, waiting for a good time. So I thought I'd do it in mid-Summer, on August 15th.
I'm enclosing a Before-After photo. My natural hair colour turns quite orange from light brown in Summer, and I was hoping to just tone it down into a red-brown, however the dye was a bit too rich and it came out pretty much purple! lol.
Personally I like it... So what do all of you think? I'm open to your comments. And don't worry, I'm really taking care of my hair to restore it to its initial condition!
Just thought I'd let you know.
Until my next update!
Take care :D
Shawn
I prefer the one on the right, whichever one that is.
Hey Shawn, I think your hair looks fine with its new color. Some of our board users do not recommend dying one's hair a different color, and I completely understand the reasoning behind it, but I still think its a cool thing to try. Your hair is great, by the way. You obviously take good care of it.
Peace,
Ryan
I think the dye looks great, and where were you when these pictures were taken? I like the background scenes alot :)

Great colour change..:-)!

Personally, I am not into dye, and you had a great natural color.

You hair look nice like that. :-) That color works!
Looks really good on you, specially the way you styled it. Your eyes look bluer, but maybe that's the lighting.
Nice.
Black looks better on your hair. I like the curls in your hair, no matter what.

I think it looks great! If you are concerned about damaging your hair, have you thought about trying henna? It's great condition, its a more permement color (and it gets richer each time you use it) and its all natural so it doesnt damage your hair.
I personally use the stuff from Lush (www.lush.com) and its a little pricey, but one brick has lasted me over half a year, whereas box color you have to redo each month, it hurts your hair horribly and fades into icky colors.
If you do henna, make sure you are getting ones that don't have mettalics (hence why i use Lush because its a really reputable company) and you can get ones that are dark brown and will give nice red highlights in it with your wonderful natural color.
Thanks a lot for the compliment and information! I'll look into it because I'd love to try henna one day. Maybe when this one fades out!
Cheers
I'm not a big fan of dye but it looks good on you.
Hope it doesn't damage your hair to much.
Hello !
i admit I prefer your old natural color. I'm fan of the orange curls :)
A friend of mine had the same hair, some years ago. Now, he has waist length hair, and because of the weight, only the bottom is curly.
Bye

Hi Shawn,
Your hair looks great both ways, and you are blessed with the thickest and healthiest curls, so definitely keep everything growing!
Take care,
David
I like the color change. I didn't realize you had the thick hair that you do. Wow!
Cool and hope your summer is going well in your island paradise.

Hi Shawn, I think the black dye suits you just fine, although generally, I have always thought natural is better. Also I think what ever you used to condition your hair worked really well as your hair looks less dry than the picture on the right.
Bruce
How strange... the (After) photo was taken maybe 4 hours after the Before one.. and the only conditioner I used was the one that came with the dye. However I believe my hair was a bit damp in that photo. And it felt much drier after than it was before!

HELLO HAIR TWIN! MY HAIR IS IDENTICAL TO YOURS IN CURLS AND THICKNESS AND CHANGES COLOUR AS WELL DURING SUMMER. OFTEN GOING IN THE CHLORINE WATER OF SWIMMING POOL OR COASTAL SEA WATER WOULD BLEACH IT A LIGHTER COLOUR - THOUGHI'VE NEVER USED HAIR DYE MYSELF - AS IT CAN DAMAGE THE HAIR LONG-TERM. I THINK YOUR HAIR WILL BE TRULY AWESOME WHEN IT GROWS OUT LONGER. WHEN I FIRST GREW OUT MY HAIR I WAS ABOUT 16 AND DIDN'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT HAIR CARE. I DID HEAPS OF HAIR SINS WHICH LEFT MY COARSE HAIR A FRIZZY MESS. SO FROM ONE CURLY TO ANOTHER - AVOID BRUSHES AND USE WIDE COMBS AND COMB SLOWLY WHEN HAIR IS WET/DAMP. I USED TO COMB MY HAIR WITH FINGERS TOO. USE AN AFRO PICK IS THE BEST. IF YOU BRUSH THE CURLS WHEN THEY ARE DRY IT ONLY ENCOURAGES FRIZZINESS AND SPLIT ENDS.
ALSO IF YOU PART THE HAIR FROM THE SIDE IT WOULD MAKE IT LESS TRIANGULAR LOOKING AND MORE MANAGEABLE DURING THE AWKWARD PHASE.
AND AVOID COLLAR-SHIRTS TO AVOID FRICTION FROM THE CURLS ON NAPE OF NECK WHICH WILL END UP WITH HEAPS OF SPLIT ENDS. ONCE YOUR HAIR GROWS LONG ENOUGH TO TIE BACK IN PONY-TAIL IT WILL BE EASIER TO AVOID SPLIT ENDS AND FRIZZ.
I THINK YOUR HAIR DYE COLOURING LOOKS OK.
BEST WISHES ON YOUR HIRSUTE ADVENTURE,
CHEERS,
DUNCAN
