...not that I ever really left, if you count regular lurking. Actually, it was Mexican Headbanger's recent post that made me decide to jump back into this sooner, rather than later. To him, I say "Congratulations regarding your friend's recovery from the 'Big C,' and best of luck in re-growing your hair."
To the rest of the MLHH regulars, some of whom understandably get tired of "yo-yo hairgrowers" intermittently populating the board, I ask for a bit of understanding. To make a long story short, a very dear friend of my family's died of brain cancer about 3 months ago at the age of 33, leaving behind two beautiful children, a large, loving family, and many others fortunate to be counted among his friends. It was partly an attempted act of "solidarity," as Mexican Headbanger so aptly put it, and partly an experiment in detachment from the material world, that had me shaving the hair from my head.
Guess what? I achieved neither of these things from doing so. Being there with my wife to help our friend's family through such a difficult time, to hear him take his final breath, these were the things--in addition to years of friendship--that provided a sense of camraderie, and would have no matter the length of my hair. And detachment from the material world? Let me just say that it was a FAR greater hassle to maintain a shaved head or short haircut than it is to just let the hair grow!
So anyway, yeah. I'm back out of "lurker mode," my hair is growing, and I just figured that at least a few of you might have been curious as to where I'd gone. Congratulations on all of the fantastic updates over the past few months, and a seriously belated Happy Birthday to David N! (I still remember the delighted expression on your face in a picture from your birthday last year, as you prepared to dig into a pile of fried clams, and sincerely hope that your most recent birthday brought you just as much joy.)
Welcome back!
Oh yes, a shaved head is hard to maintain too. Lately I've noticed that all my friends with shaved hair don't have it shaved properly... the majority is at a certain length but every so often a much longer hair sticks out at varying angles. Funny stuff!
Is your hair longer than your last update? In that case I'd love to see a recent update!
And your son has beautiful hair.
Shawn
That explains a lot, I'm sorry for you to hear a friend has passed away. Good luck with growing your hair out again.
Welcome back, was wondering what became of you.
Glad you have returned and regret the passing of a family friend.
It just goes to show things can happen no matter what age so live every day fully as you never know.
Kevin
