I live in a very hot climate and get about three hours of vigorous activity every day, so my hair gets quite sweaty. I just got a stepper, and the users' guide suggests cleaning the sweat off promptly because the acidity will corrode the machinery. I'm wondering how destructive sweat is to hair and if I should try to get it rinsed out as soon as possible. Anyone know if sweat eats hair?
I live in Arizona just outside Phoenix, it doesnt get much hotter than that. And Ill tell you it doesnt seem like sweat eats hair or damages it but it can make it oilier and smelly.
I work outdoors a little at my job and sweat quite a bit,
sometime its over 115 here so I wash my hair almost everyday in the summer and deep condition once a week, otherwise Id have a clumpy smelly mess on top of my head. Just remember to condition well and comb out gently when wet. Good luck to you.
Thanks for the responses. It gets up to the mid 120s here, but the humidity is as low as 2%, so I only shampoo once per week to avoid dryness. The static is unbelievable. My hair does get a water wash every time that I shower.
Sweat is basically a waste product of the body. Sweat contains salt, urea, and fatty acids and other trace components.
It is best to at least rinse the hair after sweating to remove any salt precipitates that might be left.
It is a good idea to take a nice cold shower after a day of rigorous work and sweating. It's relaxing for both the hair, and the body as well.
