Thanks for the advice and thoughtful responses to my questions - I really appreciate it.
Elektros - I just couldn't bring myself to post a pic of the top of my head.
I know it's there, but the thinning alarms me too much to preserve it in a photo.
(I'll reserve that view for birds, people taller than me, and mapquest satellites).
in the meantime, I genuinely value & appreciate your observations and feedback.

What a great way to put it. I've been so d%*# self conscious about that thin patch that it has kept from growing my hair out for years.
I'm very encouraged now to keep g(r)o(w)ing - and am so glad I posted the questions. (You guys have diverted me from the reluctant temptation to give into pressure to cut it).
