I was just wondering if anyone can tell me a bit about some natural alternatives to hair-care products? I'm really starting to notice now that the man made stuff actually does more harm than good. I've attempted water-only a few times, but my scalp is just too oily for water alone. I've read here about some oils to to act as a conditioner, but is there anything that will act as a shampoo?
There is a product called Wen..it is a cleansing conditioner and works wonderfully for me ..i use it maybe once every 7-10 days with water washes between..there is no lather, but leaves hair soft and freah...i took a chance on it..saw it on an infomercial and got some..i have reordered a 3 month supply...there is a website..i believe it is www.wenhaircare.com...may be worth looking in to...it is proven that shampoo and sulfates are poison to hair...this seems to be a viable alternative...i use the cucumber aloe...Gordy
Thanks for the reply, I'll definately be looking into that.
How long did you attempt water only for? (And sorry I don't have an answer to your question, I too am looking for the purest alternative to shampoo I can find)
The longest I was able to go for was 7 days. Even with fairly hot water I wasnt able to get most of the oils out.
Ah, I did it for 3 months and it worked okay for me! You're actually not supposed to get the oils (sebum) out of your hair, after around three weeks for me the sebum levels in my hair reduced but it can take a month for some people! You use a boar bristle brush to spread it down all over the hair and when you wash it which can be between once or twice a week or once or twice a month (depending on the induvidual) you use cool/warm water but not very hot water and massage your scalp and pull the sebum from the scalp down the hair!
Here is a usefull link if you're interested

I haven't used shampoo or conditioner for around 8 months, water works fine for me. Occasionally it will get really oily and annoying but I'd much prefer it this way, rather than using man made products on my hair.
