Hi Guys hope you all are having a great Labor Day weekend so far.Yesterday I took to the road and went to my gun club out in PA to do some target shooting despite the fact it was quite a warm and very humid day.I also had a small party to attend at a friends house also out in PA so it was a really full day.I'm not sure if I ever mentioned that I like to recreational shoot as its quite a thrilling hobby. Also gets quite expensive too but what hobby doesn't.LOL.Anyway this is a pic of me holding my Bushmaster Rifle under the roof in the shooting lanes there.I'm basically shooting at 100 yds. into a standard military target. This particular rifle is quite accurate once you have it sighted in properly.I use a red dot on it with no magnification.Anyway here I am but excuse the frizzy hair as the humidity is high like I said before:)
Here in this pic is my Rifle on the shooting line pointed towards the targets. The ones I'm shooting at are the far plywood ones way in the background.Quite a long walk setting up and patching the targets during the day.
This is a better ppic of what tyhe firing line bench area looks like after you let off a few.LOL Please excuse the mess of spent brass under the table.LOL
Well here I am getting ready to go at it!I must have hit the bulls eye a few times since I'm smiling in this one:)
Looks like fun! Where at in PA do you go? I live up near Scranton in Lackawanna County...
Hi John,
Yes the range is a great way to let off some steam should you feel the need to do that!To answer your question the range is located in Easton ,PA of Rt.78 just over the boarder from NJ.If you are a gun guy you must know how gun unfriendly NJ is:( You PA guys have it much better there.
Mark
An interesting hobby you have there Mark and a gret way round off the end of Summor/Labour day weekend!
Cheers,
John.B
Hi John.Yes I find going to the range a great relaxing way to spend an afternoon.I'm hoping to get there a couple more times before the cold weather sets in as there is no heat except in your car with the engine on!LOL.Hope your weekend is going well MR.Wacken:)LOL
Mark
I don't know about Mr Wacken lol, but I've been there a few times yes. But still I prefer less passive pastimes like basketweaving and knitting!!!
Cheers,
John.B
That's why I was wearing a peacoat in the pic I posted. It was middle of winter at an outdoor range. But we found out that plastic jugs full of frozen juice make pretty patterns on the snow.
OK this is the last one I promise and is of me under the roof of the shooting lanes. Its great to have that roof in case of an unexpected T storm which PA is so famous for:)Special thanks to my new iphone for these fantastic pictures as this is the first time I used the camera part of it.Thank you all for the patience to look at my pics and read about my hobby. You guys are the greatest as I'm so happy to be a part of the mlhh:)See Ya'll soon!
Mark
Very cool hobby! Badass weapon, too!
Hi Hegg,
Yea, I think its a fun hobby as its good for hand/eye coordination. Thanks for your comment on my rifle as
unfortunately that rifle has gotten a bad reputation
from the media here in the US.However just by looking
at it commands respect... but its a nice gun:)
Mark
Cool pics Mark, you look quite the Ted Nugent there!
Frizzy hair looks great on you too!!
Cheers, Dave
Hi Dave and welcome home from your week long vacation.I certainly hope it was relaxing and that you had a great time.Oh and I missed you so I'm happy your back.
That's so funny about the Ted Nugent comment as that's exactly what someone at the barbecue I went to last might said when I showed them the pics.I guess I'll be noted as the Ted Nugent of the mlhh.LOL.As for the frizzyness it does look kind of cool in its own way.Sort of gives me my own nuttidave look:)Anyway glad your back my friend as I have to go look at your update now.I'm sure it will be a treat as I can't wait!Cheers...
Mark
Thanks Mark, i missed this place, there is soooo much to take in even with just a week away!! - I had a great and restful time.
Yeah I thought your hair had a 'nutti' tinge too!
Cheers buddy, Dave
One of of the great parts of being in the MLHH community is when folks share a little bit of their personal lives along with their updates.......I never would have guessed a kitty loving PA guy would have been into that hobby.
Your hair looks great in the sun, humidity and wind.....super natural look. Curious though... do you need to tie your hair back when you are actually shooting ??
Thanks for Sharing
Hi Walter
Yes isn't it interesting to find out new things about the guys here at mlhh.Actually I held back a long time posting about this hobby of mine as I wasn't sure how it would be received. Finally deciding I've been here long enough and most know that I'm really a kind hearted guy:)Its just that the shooting sports has never been given the respect that it deserves.Yes you can be a marksman and a kitty guy too!Oh as for my hair I just left it loose for the photo op as during my shooting I keep it up under a baseball cap for safety. Thanks for the kind words Walter and Opal also wanted to say HI!Take care my friend:)

Thanks for sharing this with us, it's cool to see what people do in their free time.
Hi Vincent.Yea actually that's one of the things I like so much about the mlhh as it just isn't always about hair.Sure I like to talk hair as much as the next guy but its fun to see what other longhairs are into out in the real world.I guess we ARE a real diverse group in more ways than one.Hope your having a fine weekend my friend:)
Mark
hi Mark.
That sound cool and I used to go shooting years ago. i only practiced with handguns usually 9mm. I did once shoot a 45
that was a thrill.
glad you had a good time
Kevin
Hi Kevin. That's cool that you did some shooting in the past as doing it for the first time is always a real thrill.I haven't done much handgun lately since I got really into high power rifle for the long distance shooting. However I do own those caliber handguns myself should the day come when I want to resume handgun shooting. It definately was a fun day as I hope to get a couple more range days in before the colder weather sets in.
Mark
Nice pics Mark! I remember I went shooting once with my uncle about year ago. I shot 3 rounds on a S&W 44 magnum and damn near amputated my wrist. I thought I was Dirty Harry for a moment lol! Needless to say I never went shooting again.
Hi Chris!
LOL. Now what a way to begin shooting going for one of the most powerful handguns you could possibly use.At least he could have given you a 9mm as that would have been much easier to shoot. But that does remind me that I own that same gun being a S&W Model 629.I only used it once when I first bought it and it did have quite a kick from what I remember.
Mark
Hi Mark,
Oh my goodness! What cool and unexpected photos, and of course, your hair is awesome. That gun DOES look a little scary, but it certainly seems to be an interesting hobby!
Take care,
David
Hi David.Well I hope I didn't scare everybody by posting these range pics as it is only a sport for me.Actually all the times I've gone to this range every so often I run into longhairs who like to shoot which actually was not surprising.I remember this one guy a couple years ago who had a ponytail past his waist! The hobby certainly is fun and challenging as there are many aspects to being a good marksman.
By the way I feel so bad that we won't be able to get together this time around when you head out on your trip this coming week.If something changes in your route that might bring you closer to me let me know and possibly we can pull it off.I certainly would be honored to meet you David. If I don't see you be sure and have a safe and enjoyable trip:)Take care my friend and hope to see you eventually.
Mark
Look's like you had a great time.
Here's a shot of me firing a friend's .45 in the winter of 2003. This was only a few months after I retired from the Navy, and was just getting started on my longhair journey.
Jim
Hi Jim.Hey that's a great pic of you and even at that time just being out of the Navy you sure had longish hair:)You look quite at home firing that .45 as that is a great caliber for a handgun.I like to collect all different types and calibers of guns but I'm mostly interested in military arms. Its a sport that unfortunately gets a bad rap as it really doesn't have to be that way. Thanks so much for posting that cool vintage pic Jim.Thumbs up!
Mark
Mark,
Where is Pennsylvania do you go for this? (I'm guessing the Poconos?)
Hair looks great!
Karsten
Hey Karsten!
Thanks for the hair compliments as coming from you I really appreciate that.
You must not have been too far from me as I was in Easton,PA as the Poconos are not at all far from there.Afterward I went up to Nazereth to visit a friend for a barbecue so I was even that much closer.Do you go to the Poconos often? If you do we should try and meet sometime if you like.I know you mentioned the Casino as I hope you didn't loose too much $$.Anyway that's for your comments and hope your weekend is a good one:)
Mark
Hi Mark,
Looks like you were having a fun time. Just remember to wear ear protection too. I guess I knew that there were gun clubs and such, or shooting ranges, but the idea is rather foreign to me; I really have little concept of it. I guess in more populous areas, that's the necessity of it. Why, here we just go out in a field or somewhere and set up targets or shoot pinecones out of trees or look for game. I notice you have on a #31 shirt too.
MB
Hi Matt.Yes it was a great day in spite of the sticky conditions.Unfortunately being in a populated area its a necessity to go to a range to shoot a firearm. It would be a dream for me to be able to walk out my front door,go to a field and do some shooting.Looks like I need to more a bit more south.
Oh you noticed the shirt! So I take it you know that's the number for the race car driven by Michelle Theriault who is sponsored by Glock,Inc.Now that's what I call a great sponsor for a car!I don't think that will happen on Sprint Cup cars but hey you never know.
Mark
Hey Mark, having a blast indeed! Great pics and your hair is looking terrific...even with the frizziness. Love that humid weather...wish it was more like that around here aometimes. Hope you had fun at the races last week. Hope to talk to you soon.
Cheers,
Max
Hey Max glad to hear from you!Sorry I haven't written or called you lately but I did not forget you.As you know I was away last weekend going to Bristol, TN for the races and now this weekend I've been running around a bit.Hope things have been going well for you as your pics above look fantastic.I'll certainly give you a reply when I work my way back up the board as I'm a bit behind on my postings.Actually I will try and call you tomorrow so hopefully you will be around. Thanks for your hair comments too as the majority like my frizzed out hair it seems:)Catch you later my friend.Cheers
Mark
I see you like to hunt game. Looks like you had fun practicing with your new weapon. For me, I stay away from using guns. They are very loud. Have fun.
Regardless
My MySpace
Thanks for you comments but just for the record I don't really hunt game.Just paper targets for me at this time.LOL.As for the noise ...well yes its loud but I do use ear protection so that helps. You should try shooting sometime if you know a relative who owns a gun and is willing to let you try it as its a great hobby. Its always good to know firsthand the thrill of the shooting sports.Sort of like driving a fast sports car to name a comparison.
Have a great weekend my friend.
Mark
It's a good thing Plywood isn't on the "Endangered Species List" ha ha.
Happy Shooting!
Frank
Hi Frank,
Thankfully plywood isn't on that list but then again it takes trees to make the plywood.Shhhhhhh..... I won't tell anybody that though:)Take care my friend.
Mark
Wow those look like fun to shoot!
Every once in a while me and my dad will go shooting out in the desert where its thousands of feet away from any buildings or people and we'll bring junk we dont need or use and watch them blow up lol.
He owns a Yugoslavian Ak-47 RPK and an M70 which is a variant of that. They actually dont have that much of a kick compared to the shotgun we have which for home defense only (not that we live in bad neighborhood but better safe than sorry).
Hi DiO,
Hey that sounds like your dad has some cool weapons.I also have a Chinese SKS which probably shoots the same round as your AK-47 does. The recoil from these guns is not at all bad as you can shoot them for hours and not get worn out from using them. Its cool that you can just go into the desert and shoot as I wish I could just do that here.As for the shotgun yes they can be really tough shooting them for any length of time. Its cool to see that some of the mlhhers are into guns too.
Mark
that is awesome Mark! long great mane and a gun very cool dude! :)
Hi Mark and thank you for your comments:)Yes longhair would not be complete without a long gun to go along with it.Now how's that for a slogan!Glad to see you back posting again as your absence was noticed. We missed you.Take care my friend:)
Mark
Good set of pictures Mark! I'm glad you shared a bit of your hobby interests with us. (Your hair look very natural in these pics)
Take care,
Bruce
Hi Bruce.Yes, it seems like many guys were surprised by my hobby and of course I had to pic the most menacing looking gun that I own to take a picture of.LOL.As for my hairdo that day it was kind of wild but still looked OK I guess. You never know what your hair may be like from day to day.Take care my friend:)
Mark
Wow, I had no idea you were into shooting sports, Mark. I have several air guns and two .22 caliber rifles too. Your hair looks good despite the frizzing from the humidity.
Scott
Hi Scott.Hey you even surprise me then as I would not have guessed that you are into guns as well.Even though you have smaller caliber arms its still cool to be able to shoot something. Also .22 rounds are very cheap making that rifle cheaper to use in the long run.I also have an air rifle as well as an air pistol.I like to have several calibers as each gun shoots so much differently.I guess I surprised a lot of guys by posting this thread.Oh well it just a hobby that's all:)
Yea I have to laugh at how wild my hair is looking in these pics as it was a rather sticky day.Longhair seems to have a personality of it own.LOL.Take care Scott and thanks for your response my friend.Cheers
Mark
