Hey guys, I'm 17 years old and I am about 14 months into my long hair journey. However, I am very concerned about the amount of broken hairs I have, and I wonder if I need to get it cut and try again. I really don't want to, but I don't want my hair to look hideous because of the breaks. My goal length is mid to low back. Any suggestions or comments, will be appreciated.
Hi DJ,
Well firstly, I think a picture would help a lot. Aside from that, is the damage really noticeable or is it you only pointing it out? If breakage is all over the place, left and right, then perhaps cutting is something you should do to make yourself feel better (or worse?) about the situation. I think if the damage is not on a large scale, don't freak out, let your hair grow and then maybe a year or two you can clean things up and not lose a tremendous amount of length.
Cheers,
Hegg
Thanks for replying, Hegg.
I would post a picture, but my sister's digital camera broke at the beach 2 weeks ago. No one has really said anything, but in my opinion, the breakage is very noticeable especially as it dries out of the shower. I really don't want to cut it, because that would just prolong my journey, and I really want my hair longer, haha. I'd like to add that your hair is the most amazing I have ever seen. Could you tell me what you do to keep it so healthy, and your diet to make it so it grew so long in only 2 years? I'd appreciate it alot.
Thanks,
DJ
No problem!
Ah, yeah, been there before - breaking my camera, ha ha. Hmm, that doesn't sound too good.. Perhaps you should take Justin's advice as I think it was fabulous. Thanks! I wash my hair with shampoo and conditioner every day, sometimes conditioner only, some times shampoo only. As for my diet, I ate a lot of protien filled foods and drank A LOT of water, and I still do each day. I also never ever apply heat (blow dyer). Hope this helps at all, sure works for me.
Cheers,
Hegg
I am sorry to hear of this and KNOW as a longhair how something like this can be a bit of an upset. But first, are you "Finger-Combing" your hair? If not I would try this right away and most likely it WILL save the day for you. Also, are you using PLENTY of conditioner? This is VERY important! Whatever you do...don't get it cut and waste what you have acquired to date. A haircut would solve nothing at this point.
There IS an answer I am quite sure. Once you find the technique that works for you and your hair-type you will be in the drivers seat.
Best of luck to you.
I have baby-fine hair that breaks really easily. When my hair started growing out, I hadn't really planned on growing it out, so I didn't take very good care of it. So I have quite a bit of broken hair. Now that I'm more careful, it should be better. Part of the reason that my hair is damaged is that I used product, a blow-dryer and other instruments of torture to get me through the awkward stage. I figure that I'll have to get a trim at some point, but I'm going to wait until it's mid-back length rather than starting over.
Don't cut it, you'll have to start all over again.
Just take care of your hair the best you can and maybe only remove some damaged end at some point in the future.
Second are it really broker hairs, when you shed hairs new ones will grow there but will obviously be shorter and stick out.
This is normal and nothing to worry about.
A picture would help.
