I am disgusted by the removal of "dissenting" posts in the thread below on John McCain. This is not meant to be a political site. I have been a member here for almost 2 years, and have never had any desire to leave. But now I am.

I have to agree. There should at least be an explanation as to why. Foul language, bad spelling, wrong political agenda, run by fascists, something.
The guy who posted the message that started the removed part of the thread posted later regretting that he had posted it, so one of the crew removed it to respect his wishes. This is what I understand from seeing the moderator chatter anyhow. I thus would not read too much into what happened. The rules say off topic posts from regulars are allowed so long as they don't become so numerous that they overwhelm the usual flavor of the board, which is about hair. Posts on religion or politics can often explode and thereby overwhelm us, but this particular one was nowhere near that point. The guy's post was just removed because he said he wished he hadn't made it.
Removing posts other than the ones that obviously don't belong is the moderators' toughest task. It's a darned if you do and darned if you don't situation, but as the expression goes, somebody has to do it. They try to take a reasonable middle road with this task, but this will not please everyone. It may please a larger number if all the reasons are laid out each time, but doing that most often just creates more chatter and analysis, which defeats the whole purpose of keeping the board mostly about hair. And then that would displease a lot of people.
Hey, they do the best that they can!

The only thing I don't agree with that you said here, Bill, is that you used the word, "darned"... Isn't it "damned?" (Te he he!)

I've never posted here before, but have followed the board for the last 6 months or so as I grow my hair. I've enjoyed the diverse and interesting community, but the removal of such posts below disgusts me as well.

As I didn't see the post by Rob I can't comment on it but if he regretted it and asked for it to be removed then away it goes.
As far as political posts go Bill comments below say it all. They're ok once in a while as long as they don't take over.
Kevin
I'm against politics completely, I feel they control our lives too much and that we have no room for freedom of our own.
I did not see this post that caused some sort of outrage, but I don't think it's something that should stop you from posting on this board

I've been too involved in my home life and school teaching to be present much these past many months, but you've long been a long-haired journey companion. I'll miss seeing your regular posts, James. I wish you all the best in life.
Shawn (Mr.Crow)
I sincerely hope you reconsider James, you'll be missed by many. As a student of the political sciences I'm sure you realize that you need to have a real tough skin to survive in politics.

Hey James I hope not- If it was YOUR post that was removed I would demand an explanation. But it seems that the author of the post asked for it to be removed. As we are a VERY diverse community I hope people haven't made the assumption ( making an ass out of u and me)that we all agree just because we have or appreciate long hair.!!!!!
I don't know what was posted, but obviously you were offended and I'm sorry for that. I hope you reconsider you decision, but whether you stay or go I wish you good fortune in life. And I will miss your posts.

Haven't seen the post it's all about, but I'm sorry to hear that your going to leave us. I will miss your monthly updates.
Good luck irl.
