Hey there, here are a few pics Ive taken with my macbook. The first is to show the current length, which I think is below mid-back. The other two are using the invert colour special effect on photo booth :) My original goal length was mid-back, but for now Im reluctant to do any trimming. Plus, I'm interested in seeing just how light coloured the ends will become after another summer, so for now I'm continuing to grow.
In a couple of weeks Ill be off to York to study Economics at uni, so Im really happy about getting in :D Although I have no idea what kind of a reaction Ill get there. Of course, Ill use a ponytail until I find out just how conservative or not the people there are.
I think Ill do one more update when I reach terminal length, or if I decide to trim before then. For the record, Ive had no trims since Ive started growing, and seem to have no real problem with split ends. Tangling however is a serious issue, and I think may be related to how I sleep with my hair down. Maybe I should start doing segmented tails when I go to sleep? (I've epically failed to do self-braiding) It should help with the tangling, though it might cause traction alopecia any advice would help :)
Thanks for reading.
Your hair looks awesome, very nice waves at the end.
I plan on growing my hair without trims as well so it's good to hear a succes story.
Good luck on the uni!
Thanks Vincent :)
I think one of the problems with trims is the risk... or at least I think anyway. Unless you're lucky in who trims your hair, you might end up with a bad trim, and then you'll need to do another trim to fix the previous trim...and so forth :P
I might end up doing one of those self-trims when I reach terminal, I think there was a guide around here somewhere...
o wow Derf thats one beautiful mane! so long and love the waves since my hair is the same hair type i hope mine looks as awesome at that lenth i can only hope lol well good job on growing it so healthy brother and keep up the great growth!
Thanks Mark, I hope your hair becomes as wavy as you want it to be :)
Beautiful hair and you have reached a great length in just over two years.
I am guessing that hair is not going to be an issue at University.....and good luck with your studies ! Economics in today's global environment has got to be an interesting study !.
Thanks for Sharing
Walter
Thanks Walter!
I read through most of the stuff York sent me and didn't see restrictions on hair length mentioned anywhere, so I hope you're right :)
You've always had really good hair, derf. It looks great in these photos. Keep it growing and flowing, man. Stay well... =)
-James
Thanks James, I'll keep in touch :)
Wow! You've acheived such a long length in just 26 months and it looks fantasic!
Good luck with your studies at uni.
Bruce
Thanks!
I didn't start off from a shaved head though like many others, I think I had around 2 inches of hair when I decided to grow it out.
Superb looking long hair at its best! And yet another great example of how spectacular long hair looks if simply allowed to grow on its own without even-ups, trims, layering etc. The hair does it all so well just by itself.
As for the tangles, I have found that I have to keep at them daily (every morning when I get up), for to let more than a day pass makes tangles and knots almost impossible to deal with. Just a suggestion to try:
1. Finger comb and gently undo tangles in the am.
2. Follow with a wide tooth comb. When it goes through your hair like a breeze you KNOW that you are in good shape.
3, For shine, follow-up with a boars bristle brush.
4. Sleep with the hair in a Ponytail with several segmented ties at night. This helps about 80% of the problem.
Best of luck to you.
Thanks for the advice and compliment Justin. I think one of my problems is that I don't have a wide tooth comb, nor a bristle brush.
Maybe time to invest in new brushes/combs then :P
Simply spectacular and inspirational. Thanks for posting these!
Thanks Jason :)
Holy crap! What a mane! Awesome length and your hair looks fabulous. Really thick, which is always a great thing. I love the color as well. Definitely keep growing.
Cheers,
Hegg
Thanks for the encouragement, I'll definitely keep growing for now :)
Hey Der...great update, you hair looks terrific indeed! Contgars.
Cheers,
Max
Thanks Max!
Btw, if you read my name backwards, you'll get my real name ;)
Hi Derf,
Thank you for sharing this update with us, and what amazing growth for only 26 months. What an inspiration to everyone!
Keep it growing,
David
Thanks :)
Though as I've said, it wasn't from a shaved head...thankfully I've never had a shaved head.
Hi Derf,
Thanks for the update and your have an amazing head of hair there and in wonderful condition and a great natural colour and that really comes our in the first pic. I'd say keep away from the trims (eh trimmers!) as the ends look okay.
Cheers,
John.B
Thanks John. Even if I do ever trim, it will likely be a self trim...I don't trust those evil barbershops...
Your hair is awesome,Derf, and I personally like it's natural brown color a lot.Keep it growin' an' flowin'
Peace up :)
Thanks mate :)
I figure if I don't trim my hair, it will continue to lighten up every summer, which is a natural way to dye your hair :P
You have great hair. Love the curls near the end.
My hair is so straight and lifeless compared to yours :(
I wonder if those 'curling shampoos' actually work and enchance curls?
Thanks ATP :)
I dunno about the curling shampoos, but would it make you feel better if I told you I always wanted straighter hair?
We're never satisfied with what we have, but you can be sure other people want your kind of hair too :)
Wow, thats quite a mane you have there derf26, I never realised it was so long and cool looking. Very good, keep it growing for sure.
~ Dave
Thanks :)
But in the realm of cool, your hair dominates Dave. It seems to literally be alive in pretty much all of your photos, and that's just awesome :)
Hi! Your hair looks perfect! The curls are great and the length is really nice. Don't trim it because it really looks fantastic.
Del
Thanks Del :D
Cool!
I run my fingers through my hair fairly often to get rid of tangles; I was glad to hear that that's a better way than using a brush at first (I don't have such a problem with it since I got my hair thermally relaxed, but it's still a bit of a problem).
Oh..."Traction alopecia"?
My Myspace page
Using your fingers rather than combs or brushes reduces risk of snapping your hairs as you can feel tangles better :)
Regarding Traction Alopecia, it's basically when hair falls out from being pulled too hard for long periods of time. It can happen with really tight ponytails or braids if you do them too often. I mentioned it because braiding or tailing my hair every night could result in that, especially if I twist a lot at night, the hair could get pulled on :P
Thanks for replying :)
Fantastic hair, and I like the inverted pictures alot also :)
Patrick_R
Thanks Pat :)
Hi derf26. Your hair looks great, and it has some nice waves to it. I will reach my 26th month this February (and that is when I go to Hawaii).
Regardless
My MySpace
Hey thanks! The waves are fun but I fear they may be one of the reasons for the tangling. Btw, I guess i'll be waiting for an update in February then :)
Great hair, derf26; but you shouldn't be so "negative." Keep it growin' and flowin'.
TLH
Sorry if I came off as negative, I really wasn't :P
Thanks, I will :)
Just making a pun about the negatives you posted. :-D
Hi derf,
Hey its seems like forever since you gave us some fresh pics and that macbook takes some exceptional photos.Great product as I'm still plugging along with my almost 5 yr. old iBook.LOL.Hey no complaints here!
Your hair certainly looks sensational and I hope the folks at uni will appreciate your gorgeous mane:)Maybe you'll start a trend there..who knows:)Anyway thanks for taking the time to do an update and I'll be looking forward to the next one.Cheers my friend.
Mark
Call this irony, but the long life of apple laptops is a disadvantage to me right now :P
I'll be looking for an excuse to buy a MacBook Pro as soon as I can afford it (probably in 4 years) but I fear this MacBook will still be working fine lol.
Thanks Mark, though I'm not one to start trends lol. My next update will be at terminal or waist length I think :)
Great update Derf
The hair looks amazing. It's gotten really long since I last saw one of your updates. Good luck with your studies at york.
Thanks a lot Chris :)
Hi Derf,
First, congratulations on getting the opportunity to go over and study at York. I know you will do fine. Your knowledge and intelligence will override any negativity that anyone could possibly have about your hair length. Trust me on this one. In an academic setting, this is most always the case -- "the longhair philosopher." Your hair looks great and I like the pictures with the color reversed. Sorry to hear you have tangling problems. I don't know a solution for this; luckily I have few tangling problems at the moment (crossing my fingers). A loose braid might be the solution. I appreciate your use of the word "epically" as well. It's a very fitting term.
MB
Wow, what a string of compliments, thanks Matt!
I certainly like the idea of a longhaired philosopher :D
Thanks :)
Oh it's so pretty! *fan girlish squeeling*
Lol thanks :)
