Hello everyone,
While looking up some info about spamming and phishing, I came across this "stereotyped" ad showing who the scammers are. The link to the web site is on the picture, but I did not find it funny, that a longhair, that looks like any of the long-haired students I work with.

Two things I can think here. One, it says "She is a damsel in distress" So a guy with long hair was picked to replace a girl with long hair. More similarities so it helps throw who ever stumbles onto the site.
Two, I.T. guys tend to have long hair. Maybe one of the web techs or server guys was used for the picture. Seeing the hair tie on his wrist makes me think this is probably true as he probably had his hair tied up while working on servers.
I have been told that I have that "hacker" look myself. LOL I definitely have the stereotypical Linux Admin look going on.
He does have nice hair! :-)
IMHO the operative point here is Identity Theft. Think of the commercial for one of the banks where a woman assumes the identity of a man for the purpose of identity theft.
The bank ran a number of variations on the theme but the
bottom line is identity theft does occur. if someone wants
to give you a check for $xxxxx and wants a portion of it
back an alarm should go off in your head. RED ALERT!!!!!!!!!
RED ALERT!!!!! If it sounds too good to be true it probably is. Don't walk away, Run away!!!!!!!
As a long hair I wouldn't take offense here (especially where
some of the stores I shop at have had security breaches.) Just
take with a large grain of salt.
Yeah, I remember that cluster of commercials. Every one had a transgender person as the identity thief. Very offensive.
Similarly, longhairs are over-portrayed as criminals in the media. Also just as offensive.
To avoid offense, minorities should be portrayed in a proportion that approximates their numbers in the population.
