I am pleasantly surprised and impressed. After purchasing the execrable St. Anger album I vowed I'd never buy another album of theirs again but I decided to give them one more chance. I'm glad I did! I really like most of the songs. The tin can drums of St. Anger are gone and there are tons of awesome guitar solos.
The song All Nightmare Long could easily have been on the album Kill 'em All and many of the other songs are reminiscent of their best albums from the eighties.
I definitely recommend it.
The new album is great, 1000 times better then their last one.
The sound quality and mastering of the last album was very bad.
I really like the day that never comes, but maybe that because I heard that song the most.
I've never seen them live, so I hope I get the chance with their tour from the new album.
Great music / terrible vocals...
I think their new album is definitely better than St.Anger. The "tin can" drums! LMAO Yea, thank goodness those are gone. This album had some decent riffs and speed(at times). The guitar solos were awesome as well but the one thing that didn't cut it for me were the vocals. I did not like the vocals at all. The bass sucked and the production could've been better as well. All in all I think that this album was a pretty solid effort.
I downloaded the album off the internet for free last week, and I never doubted Metallica for a second. The album is in a way a mid life crisis, where Metallica is trying to recapture their former glory...and they somewhat did a good job at that doing that in my opinion.
All Nightmare Long is the best song on the album personally, and the vocals aren't bad I find. Their guitar tuning is back to normal, and his vocals are like from the black album.
Overall, Metallica has redeemed themselves.

I stopped by Hot Topic today and there was a special, get the new CD and a metallica tshirt for $10. So I bought it of course. Haven't even gotten a chance to open it up yet though. I'm happy to hear its better than the last one!

Hey that's good to know as I wasn't planning on paying full price for it as Metallica has kind of fallen out of favor with me ever since Cliff Burton died back in the 80s.I suppose throwing in a t- shirt night be worth the price of the disc.I'll stop by the mall tomorrow and check out that store. Thanks for that info Rome.

i just bought it today gotta say way better than the last one st anger but the vocals arent that great but there ok other than that its old school metallica coming back!
I Love it
It ROCKS!
They haven't really ever topped their early stuff and I was not impressed with st Anger and have yet to check out their newest stuff. I saw them live twice, once in 1989 and again in 92 and in 92 we were saying "well this is ok but not as good as Justice"
Justice, and Master of puppets were my favorites.
Would be nice if they could get back to their roots I'd go see them again.

I haven't heard any cuts, but based on what I see here, I'm running out right away and picking up a cd!

Well, i've never been a huge fan of Metallica, but i think the latest album is OK, at least a helluva lot better than St.Anger.
However, i still think that Load, Reload and Black Album is 3 of their best albums, i've not listened that much to their 80's songs but i like the sound more in the newer ones.
