Hi Gents,
I just found MLHH today. Awesome site; it saved me from giving up on my long hair goal and getting my hair cut. Here's my problem, I hope you can help.
It's been 6 months since my last haircut and i've hit the dreaded BAD HAIR Day (every day); it's not short, but it's not long. I'm also in this "hair tickling my ears and cheek" phase, although it's begun to stay put behind my ears. Still, it's not long enough to tie it. My problem is that my hair is THICK and puffy when it dries; it really looks bad. I look like fricken chewbacca in the drier cycle. However, when my hair is completely wet(i.e. out of the shower or from heavy exercising), I look like those semi-long haired professional soccer players- real cool look. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can keep my hair wet (or wet look) all the time without having to use heavy chemicals (such as gels, grease, etc) ? Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Would it help if I post a pic for you to get an idea? Thank you for your time.
Hi !
Sorry but I see no way to keep your hair wet without putting water on it all the day ! Keep thinking about gel, anyway; I think it's not a big deal. You could keep it some months, until you pass the awkward stage.
Good luck, and welcome !

... once you're past the awkward stage the weight of your long hair will keep the puffiness at bay, but in the mean time try gel, mousse, or leave-in conditioner. Experiment on your off days so you'll know how well it works and looks at work or school.

I agree, Bruce, --- GREAT advice!!! I say, "Whatever it takes to get you through the night!" (or, in the case of longhairs going through the awkward stage, "... gets you through the DAY - lol)....
Whether it's gel, mouse, bandanas, hair spray, hats, half-tails, or even Halloween costumes... as long as you can make it to the other side of the bad hair phase, you win!!

Glad you didn't cut your hair!
personally my hair wasn't so bad.. although it was puffy and big, I was tolerating the awkward stage. However lately my hair started acting up again and when it's dry it looks TERRIBLE (extremely embarrassing). It's true that when wet the hair looks tons better, I can relate.
The best thing I can suggest is to use wet-look hair gel, or mousse. They'll improve the appearance of the hair for a few hours, but if you encounter any wind or touch your hair even once, it will totally wear off. Right now I just washed my hair and let it dry, and it's huge and puffy, and I didn't even touch it!! :(
Good luck with that. Hope you have more luck with it than I have.
Actually a grease or oil would probably be good for your hair. Considering a pomade made with real oils (no alcohol, or mineral oil) or maybe just a little bit of straight olive oil. This will help keep your hair nice and keep it from drying out and frizzing.
I'm glad you found us and didn't cut your hair.
To keep your hair like that the only option is using gel, but that can damage your hair.
When your hair is long enough it will settle down, until that time you've got to tough it out.
I used a hat or bandana a lot during this stage.
Yea, try a leave-in conditioner like Infusium 21 and/or other products. These become more effective over time. I've always found brushing helps smooth out curliness, too. Get a good boars bristle brush.
