Well it looks like my school isn't going to leave me alone about my hair after all. The disciplinarian started telling me to get it cut to above my eyebrows again today, and he wants to see it when it's done. Looks like I'm not as cool with him as I thought I was. This time there's no getting out of it. I'm gonna have to cut my length in half. I've been growing from a shaved head for about 9 months, and my hair is only down to the tip of my nose when pulled straight. So basically, I'm going to lose half of the time I've already spent growing. Looks like my school has screwed me again.
I'm sorry it's coming to this man. Why do people think they have the right to tell other people how they can look, especially when it comes to clean, neat hair. I really don't know what to tell you to do, but if it was me I might ignore his request and see what happens next, but I can't really speak for you.. Did you say your parents are for or against his request? If you can get your parents on your side it might help.
Good luck
I would ignore his request but the thing is he can expel me. This is my last year of highschool, and with only a few months left you'd think the guy would just leave me alone for the rest of the time. But apparently unreasonable rules are more important to him just because of the fact that they're rules than common sense and generosity are. My mom isn't on my side at all. She's more neutral than against me; but she thinks I should just comply with the rules and not stand up for myself because obviously she isn't very thrilled about me growing my hair out; and she doesn't think it's something worth fighting for anyway. So I'm just gonna have to cut it; there's no other alternative.
one suggestion possibly - you could perhaps have it permed with a lot of curl to take up the length and still maintain some length that way. I know it's not the best thing for hair and may not be a viable option either, but it's an idea...
nah...thanks anyway though
When I was a kid i used to have a similar problem at school, and what I did was give the guy some shit about how your have been cast in a play/tv production whatever, and you have to have long hair for the part. Explain to him how you yourself really hate it, and cant wait to have it short again e.t.c... and spin some stuff about how you really need the money for college and stuff. If your a good liar, this could well work.
Good Luck man, and dont give into to these folks - he was obviously abused as a child or something.
Heh...good suggestion, but unfortunately it wouldn't work. I know my school too well, and they still wouldn't stand for it. They're all about image, and that image has to be the perfect, stereotypical, acceptable to society male. We have kids who are actors at my school and participate in programs outside of school. The school doesn't even let them grow their hair long. Thanks for the suggestion though.
Screw that school and any like it. Any school to opresses individuality is morally wrong. Who are they to tell people (Especially young people still trying to find out what they want to be and look like) what to do and how to look. A friend of mine had his parents transfer him to a public school in a somewhat similar situation (He liked to wear his families tartan colors to school) and the British bastards dress code stated that no male is permitted to wear dresses or skirts. He just transfered to a school without that dress code. Thats what I get for spending a year in England. The grass isn't greener on the other side of the island.
Thanks for the support; it's greatly appreciated.
Come to think of it, since you are so close to graduating if I were you I would give in to their nazi ways just until you graduate. That way you don't jeopardize your chances of getting the f*ck out of that narrow minded institution. It would be a real drag for them to do something that keeps you there longer. It will only take about 6 months to grow back 3"..

Did you let your hair hang out loose so it fell in front of your face? That may be the problem.
I used to go to a school with strict hair rules. One guy I know got around it by slicking his hair back with gel. It looked perfectly conservative. He had to let the hair in the back and sides remain short, but when we graduated he let it all grow out.
I part my hair in the middle, but I comb it back and to the sides so that it's not in my face at all. The disciplinarian is a really anal guy though; he comes up to me and pulls it down to see how long it really is. Oh yeah, and we aren't allowed to use gel anyway. See how retarded my school's system is?
I read these posts and, i'm sorry to Jeremy if i'm wrong and i apologize in advance, but all this story doesn't look very believable. C'mon, is all this for real or are you just having fun making up these wild fables?
There are still many places like this right here in 21st century America that do not value self expression and individuality. A lot of places are run by closed minded nazi's. Sounds pretty believable to me.
Um...yes it's very real. I don't know where you live or what kind of school you went to, but where I live and in the private, all male, Catholic school I attend it's not uncommon. What's up with people on this board not believing other people's hair misfortunes lately? Do you all think the world all good and happy and that nothing really bad ever truly happens? I'm sorry if I sound like an asshole saying all this but damn...come on.
I've seen some postings that look dubious, but I believe Jeremy's story. It sounds like his school has some rule about guy's hair having to be "natural", so he can't even use gel, or curl it, or do much of anything. There certainly are dress codes like that.
Jeremy, I feel bad for you in your situation. Much as I hate to say it, it doesn't seem that you really have any option except to cut it. I guess maybe just try to cut it the absolute mininum amount necessary. Good luck.
Like i said, i apologized if i was wrong, it is just that this kid's situation is simply so stupid and absurd. But it had to happen in america. I live in europe so i am not used to this kind of things, though i don't doubt they probably happen here too. But anyway, good luck in whatever you have to do.

Oh yes . . . happens here in Texas all the time. Occasionally some student will put up a fuss, but the school district inevitably wins. Confirms my view that education institutions aren't much more than warehouses . . . poor kid's minds put on assembly lines and crammed with info . . . creativity stifled. Ugh.
Oh well, hang in there . . . fortuneately the whole world isn't like that . . .

Just got it cut. Naturally I think it looks horrible. I guess I'll have to just hope that my growth rate miraculously speeds up or that time passes really quickly. All I know is, I'm never cutting my hair again; I don't care if they start bitching again or what they want to do to me.
Jeremy, here's an idea. After you've got your hair grown out to where you want it, drop by the school and say "Hi". Show them that they're complete morons for requiring guys to cut their hair and that longhaired guys can turn out to be perfectly normal people. I'd do this once your 'tail extends down to your waist... Watch their reactions. They'd probably upchuck their lunches. ;)

Heh...actually there are a lot of students who come back after they graduate to do that very thing. They all have their hair down to at least somewhere in between the chin level and shoulder level, and at my school that kind of length is considered horrendous and absolutely unacceptable. I do have to go back sometime after I graduate to pick up a year book. Maybe then we'll see what they have to say when there isn't a damn thing they can do to me. :)
Just, whatever you do, wait until you have a long enough ponytail to slap the guy across his face with it... :) If my high school had been this way, I would've done the same. But, luckily, it wasn't (two guys in my grade level had hair that ranged from shoulder length to mid-back length when I left).
