Hello everyone,
Today is my 23rd birthday :)
I also have a question, the sides and top of my hair are in good condition but the back seems to tangle a lot more.
Maybe it's the way I put conditioner in my hair, I tilt my head forward and work it though the hair.
The hair and top and sides hangs free that way but the back doesn't (yet), how does everyone else conditions their hair?
Don't know if that causes the problem, so maybe someone got another suggestion?
Thanks for the help.
Happy birthday, Vincent! :-)
When do you find it tangling the most... upon waking up or just anytime?
I just work the conditioner in all over my head/hair and let it sit for a few seconds before washing it out. Nothing special in it's application. The only time my hair tangled (I cut it[a stupid move] and am now regrowing again) was during sleeping. My pillowcases were cotton which conducted friction with my hair easily. Once I switched to satin my hair didn't tangle anywhere near as much.. very, very little. Detangling my hair would take 10 minutes but after getting the satin pillowcases it was decreased to 1-2 minutes, if at all.

It's the worst when I wake up, I always start with finger combing and sometimes I comb it with a wide tooth comb.
It's a wooden comb so I can't use it in the shower.
I will try the satin pillow case and see if that helps.
I also used a wide-toothed comb to work the conditioner in.

A very happy birthday to you and hope you have a great day.
Cheers,

Thanks John
Happy 23rd!
I split my hair over both shoulders (following my middle part) to examine/condition/detangle my hair in the shower. If your's is not quite long enough for this, it should be soon (?).
g/l
Thanks, I will try that when my hair is longer.
I unfortunately don't have any advice, but Happy Birthday! I hope you have a good one.
Thanks, was a normal day but got some present from my parents and sister. The party for friends will be later.
hey happy birthday Vincent :) as far as the hair part i use alot of conditioner first lean forward to get the front hairs and sides then i lean back and put it through the back alot then i take a wide comb and comb the conditioner all around my hair to make sure its even up and nice then i wait 5 minutes with the conditioner in then rinse with cold water hope this helps
Thanks Mark, I wil try your way except I've got a wooden comb so I can't use that in the shower.
I tried to condition your way and that worked very well.
First to front and sides forward and that the back backwards.
Once it's longer I can do everything backwards.
Happy Birthday !!
Enjoy your special day and may you have many more to come....
(23rd ! Gasp ! I have blue jeans older than you ! HA!)
About tangles....the back of your head likely has the longest hair and it is susceptible to all sorts of things that add to tangling....collared shirts, wind, chair backs, sleeping, etc. A little more length will probably help...
Walter
Hi Walter,
Thanks, yes your right it's just part of having longhair. I was just wondering if I did everything ok.
Happy Birthday Vincent and many many more to you.........like at least 100! :-)
As for the tangles, I am most sure they are worse for everyone in the AM. You might want to try leaving the conditioner in for about 5 minutes before washing it out. And.......when washing it out just leave in a trace of residue in the hair. (This has worked wonders for myself.)
Enjoy your special day to the fullest! :-)
Justin~
Thanks, although 100 is a little far away :p
I already leave it in for 5 minutes, I will try to leave some residue.
I left some residue let's see how it works.
Your regime seems fine Vincent, as Walter said the longer it gets the more it tangles - its one of the 'joys' of longhairdom!!
Happy birthday!!
~ Dave
Thanks Dave,
Was just checking and got some tips which maybe help, at least the tangles indicate my hair gets longer.
Thanks :)
First off, happy birthday!!! You're only one day and a few years away from my oldest son.
Secondly, I spread the conditioner around in both hands, spread most of it around the length from the base of the skull down, and spread the remainder around the scalp area.
Jim
Thanks, happy birthday to your sun too.
Hey Vincen...and happy birthday to you! Just the fact that your hair is getting longer...as others have stated, will make it more likely to get tangled. You'll get used to it. Hope you had a great day.
Cheers,
max
Thanks, yeah maybe that's just it. Have to set my alarm a bit earlier maybe.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Vincent:)
Hope you did the right thing and celebrated it as a birthday should be!Maybe some birthday pics are in order as well:)
As for your hair issue I trust you are using a wash out conditioner after shampooing.Try using a leave in conditioner after you shower when your hair is still damp.My hair has been having problems lately with the ends tangling so I started to use leave in conditioners again and that helped big time.I stopped using them for awhile and I guess that was a bad idea.If you try it let me know how it works for you Vincent.
Mark
Thanks Mark, when I try it I will let you know.
Happy birthday Vincent!
As for the question, I usually have some nasty tangles during the morning. I just try to work them out with my fingers. I condition the tips of my hair only. I never condition the top or anything else. I tilt my head back and let all the hair fall on my back, once I do that, I get two large strands as If I were doing pigtails. Then, I condition them.
Thanks, I think it's because of sleeping on it, I also finger comb in the morning.
Concerning the back tangling more...
It might just be that the back has more split-ends. If you can trim just the split-ends, you'll be amazed at how much easier the comb goes through it.
I get a split-end trim about once a year at a salon that specializes in long hair. It takes almost an hour. Nothing more than 1/8" is ever cut off. The results are amazing.
That could be an option, but I didn't saw any split ends.
Thanks for giving advise.
Happy birthday Vincent.
By the way, I don't use conditioner, generally to save time and money. My hair is fine without it. I shampoo my hair twice a week and water down my hair every other day.
Regardless
My MySpace
Thanks, your very lucky with hair like that.
Happy birthday, Vincent. The tangling is likely due to tilting your head froward. Try tilting your head back instead. It is best to apply conditioner from front to back rather thar back to front.
Scott
Thanks Scott
I wouldn't think of tilting forward, I actually tilt my head back for rinsing, conditioing, then rinsing again. I also don't pile my hair on top of my head like the silly shampoo ads show (PS to anyone, if you are piling your hair on top like the ads, STOP! You end up creating a tangled mess that you end up unworking. Wet hair being untangled is weak hair that stretches thin and breaks. You should work up a lather in your hands, then use your fingers to pull the lather downwards through your strands. Use fingertips to massage scalp through hair. NEVER rub hair strands together.) Tilting back goes more in the direction your hair grows, tilting forward is like going against the grain, your hair doesn't fall forward, unless you lean forward enough for gravity to pull it forward. Why not try changing your method, and see how things are after a few weeks.
I tilt my hair forward because it wasn't long enough yet.
I never pile my hair, that was one of the first things I learned over here. Thanks for the advise.
Happy Birthday!
As for conditioning, I tilt my head back rather than forward and work the conditioner in as if I am making it into a tail. The tilting forward might be the cause of the tangles in the back, or it could be from sleeping on it there.

Thanks, my hair isn't long enough yet to condition it back but I will do that when it's longer.
Vincent, Have a wonderful day and a great year, Happy Birthday!
peace, jonalbear
Thanks :)
Hi Vincent,
Happy (late, sorry) Birthday!
I have the same problem as you. I assume that it is because there is a big mass of hair at the back, it's at its thickest in that area of your head. You could try working in conditioner from underneath your hair. When your hair is dry I suggest you just finger comb from underneath the hair by your neck before you pro[erly brush your hair.
Take care
Neil
Thanks, I don't have a brush yet but my hair seems to do well with only finger combing and once in a while I comb it.
Hi Vincent,
First of all, my heartiest (and belated) Happy Birthday greetings to you, and I hope you had a wonderful day.
With reference to your question, it is always a good idea to ensure that the ends get a good dose of conditioner to avoid tangles, and detangling before showering helps as well.
Happy Birthday again,
David
Thanks david.
Happy Birthday Vincent! It seems that my back hairs do tangle a bit more than elsewhere. I think it's because that portion of my hair bumps and grinds more against my shoudlers/back. At least that's my theory.
Bruce
Thanks, yeah that's perfectly possible which was one of my ideas but maybe there are some other thing which can prefent it. That's why I asked.
Thanks everyone!
happy Birthday!!
As for your conditioning question I start at the scalp with a little conditioner and use a lot more on the ends. I usually do that at the beginning of my shower and leave it on while I wash the rest of me rinsing it off last.
Have a good birthday and don't eat too much cake..
Actually what is the custom for birthdays in The Netherlands?
Anything different than in America? We all eat a lot of cake which is why we're all fat. LOL
Take Care
Kevin
Thanks
My hair isn't very long yet so I use about the same amount everywhere. I do leave it on while washing the rest of my body.
Yeah a birthday cake, and when your very young with candles on it. When your older you just eat cake.
Happy Birthday, Vincent! Keep it growin', flowin', and untangled!

Thank you.
